Chapter 16: She wasn’t lying.

As Anne stepped out of the office, she nearly collided with Denis’s assistant. Unlike before, she didn’t greet him with a polite nod or a small smile. She didn’t even acknowledge him. Instead, she simply lowered her head and moved to walk past him.

"Miss Anne," he called out, stepping in front of her. "Are you alright?"

Anne stopped, her gaze snapping up to meet his. She hadn’t expected the concern in his voice. ’What’s wrong with him?’

She maintained an impassive look as she replied, "I’m absolutely fine Now, can you move? You’re in my way."

The sharpness in her tone made him flinch. His face crumpled. He quickly lowered his head and stepped aside, allowing her to pass. As she disappeared down the hall, he turned his head slightly, watching her retreating figure.

Something about her felt different today.

A sigh slipped past his lips. Pushing the door open, he stepped into the office, finding Denis seated at his desk, lost in thought.

After a moment’s hesitation, the assistant cleared his throat. "There is an update about Billy."

Denis barely reacted, still brooding over something.

"The cops arrested him for harassing Miss Anne."

Denis’s head snapped up, his sharp gaze locking onto his assistant. "What did you say? Harassing Anne?"

The assistant nodded, "Last night, Billy tried to assault Miss Anne after finding her alone on the road. She was lucky that someone arrived in time to help her."

Silence.

Denis’s expression shifted, his mind reeling.

Denis instantly recalled Anne claiming that she had been in danger last night. But he hadn’t believed her. He had accused her of lying.

A sharp pang twisted in his chest. "She wasn’t lying," he murmured under his breath.

For the first time, a flicker of guilt settled deep in his gut.

"The cops interrogated him," the assistant continued. "And he revealed his real motive—he wanted revenge on you. When he found Miss Anne alone, he planned to kidnap her... torture her to get even with you."

A muscle in Denis’s jaw twitched. "That bastard," he growled.

But what his assistant said next truly caught him off guard.

"He knew Miss Anne was your secret lover."

Denis’s brows snapped together in confusion. "He knew?"

How was that possible?

"He had been following you for the past few months since we canceled the deal with him. He was waiting for the right moment to retaliate. And last night..."

"Destroy him," Denis snarled, cutting him short. His fury boiled over. "I don’t want him to see another sunrise."

Tania, who was about to enter the office, heard those words. She paused, her hand hovering over the doorknob.

Denis had claimed Anne meant nothing to him. Yet, here he was—furious, possessive, ready to go to extreme lengths for her.

Resentment curdled inside Tania. If this continued... if he kept acting this way, he would fall for Anne.

Tania’s nails dug into her palm.

Anne was a ticking time bomb.

If she didn’t get rid of her now, she would lose Denis forever. She had to remove Anne from his world for good.

Determination flickered in her eyes as she entered the office, her face instantly lighting up with a warm smile.

"Good morning," she greeted them.

The assistant nodded politely before slipping out of the office, leaving her alone with Denis.

Denis, however, barely spared her a glance. His sharp gaze flickered back to his laptop. "Why are you here?"

Tania didn’t let his coldness faze her. She strolled toward him. "I went for a check-up," she said lightly.

Denis didn’t respond.

She stopped beside him, tilting her head slightly. "The doctor said the baby is doing fine."

Still, no reaction.

"I thought I should show you the report." She placed a delicate hand on his arm. "You must be worried about the baby."

Denis still didn’t look at her.

Undeterred, Tania took it a step further. She slid onto his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.

Denis wanted to push her away. But the moment his eyes met Tania’s, something in him froze.

She gazed at him with a knowing smile, her expression sultry, her intent clear. Slowly, she reached out, her fingers trailing down his jawline with featherlight precision. The touch sent a shiver through him.

Her hand continued downward, tracing the column of his neck before sliding over his chest. "Last night," she murmured seductively, "I didn’t get the chance to thank you properly."

Denis stiffened slightly as her fingers moved deftly, undoing the top two buttons of his shirt.

"I thought..." She leaned in closer, her lips grazing his ear. "I would come and please you."

Her hand slipped beneath the fabric of his shirt, her fingers pressing lightly against his bare skin, tracing slow, lazy circles over his chest.

Her touch was gentle. Tempting. A low groan rumbled in his throat as an unwelcome heat stirred inside him. And no matter how much he told himself to stop—his body betrayed him.

In one swift motion, he grabbed her, pulling her flush against him, his arms locking around her petite frame.

Tania let out a soft gasp but didn’t resist. Instead, she smiled, knowing she had him exactly where she wanted him.

"You always know how to disarm me," he muttered, his voice thick with desire. He cupped her face roughly, his thumb grazing her parted lips. "That’s what draws me to you."

Denis’s lips crashed against Tania’s in a desperate, consuming kiss. It was raw, demanding—possessive. His hands tangled in her hair, tilting her head back as he deepened the kiss, as if he had been starving for her and could never get enough.

Tania moaned against his mouth, her fingers working swiftly to undo the rest of his buttons, yanking his shirt free from his slacks.

Denis let out a low growl, gripping her waist and lifting her onto his desk in one fluid motion.

Folders and pens tumbled to the floor, but neither of them noticed.

"God, Denis—" Her words were swallowed by another bruising kiss, his hands roaming over her body, gripping her hips, pulling her closer.

Her blouse fell open, exposing soft, heated skin beneath his fingertips.

His breath came out ragged as his lips trailed down her jaw, lingering at the sensitive spot just below her ear. "You drive me insane," he whispered.

Tania shivered at his touch, pulling him impossibly closer. "Denis," she breathed.

His teeth grazed her skin, marking her, claiming her.

A sharp gasp escaped her lips as his hand pressed into the curve of her thighs.

They crashed together, lips and limbs tangled, bodies moving in frantic need. His name fell from her lips between ragged breaths, her hands clutching at his shoulders as he banged her again and again. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

When he neared the climax, Anne’s face crossed in the back of his mind.

Her soft, innocent face, the gentle curve of her lips when she smiled, and the way her eyes had once looked at him with pure devotion – everything crossed his mind.

His movements stilled.

’What the hell is happening to me? Why am I thinking about her? Why now?’

Confusion gripped him, an unease creeping into his chest.

"Denis, baby," Tania whimpered. "Don’t stop." She pulled him back to her. Her dark eyes burned with lust, filled with an insatiable hunger that demanded his full attention.

Denis gritted his teeth, forcing Anne’s image out of his mind.

He crashed his lips onto Tania’s, kissing her with a renewed urgency. His grip on her hips tightened, his pace quickening as he drowned himself in the moment.

"Call my name," he commanded roughly.

Tania arched beneath him, her head tilting back as her voice spilled into the air. "Denis—uh, yes... right there..."
