Chapter 67 - The Worst Premonition Yet.

Gavin's mind was blank. He didn't feel any pain, suffering, tiredness, or exhaustion. It was as if he floated in a sensory deprivation tank. No feeling of above, below, or side to side. He just was. In a pitch-black void of nothingness. He couldn't speak. He could move, but without any sensations to judge where he was going, what good would trying do him?

So, he just laid still, floating as it were in this void of nothing. Wondering if he was dead or alive. If Erza and the others made it out safe. He found himself full of regrets at that moment. Regretful that if he was dead, he wouldn't be able to see their child grow up. Wouldn't be there to help shoulder the workload with Erza in raising the beautiful baby. It would be a son, he thought. He didn't know how or why. He just had a image in his mind of Erza, in jeans and a t-shirt, hiking through the woods back home to their favorite spot with a baby boy strapped to her chest. Fussing and babbling on as if he was talking to them.

The thought made him both smile, and petrified. He was terrified and panicked that he really was dead. That maybe this void was what they called Purgatory or limbo. That there would be no final judgement, no way for him to look down on Erza from above and watch them grow and live.

Suddenly, when he thought all hope might be lost things changed for him. A shimmer shook the very void around him and the entire location seemed to shift. No longer was he in a void of nothingness. Now he was in a damp, dark room that was all too familiar.

The sight of the single steel chair with chains for a person's hand and feet made his blood run ice cold. Not this again, damn it, he thought in utter frustration as he was once again back in whatever place his premonitions showed him.

The room was the same. Small puddles filled the corners of the dimly lit room, the leak from the ceiling a soft, drip, drip, drop as the water droplets fell. No furniture other than the single chair and small table next to it. Gavin looked at himself and once again he was shirtless, only wearing a pair of jeans and no shoes.

He gritted his teeth in frustration and annoyance. Wasn't this supposed to be over with? He seen the man die by his grandfather's hands during the first attack. That man was always the one in his dreams that killed Aria, Lyla and Erza. So, what could his premonition abilities be trying to warn him of this time?

A high pitched, feral scream filled his ears as it echoed around him. Like normal the sound came from nearby, not in the room he currently was. He looked around, as was habit during this premonition dreams and saw the familiar rusted steel pipe lying on the ground. He leaned over to pick it up as he walked to the steel door in front of him. He cracked it open and saw there were no guards on the other side in the hallway. This didn't mean much to Gavin. Half the time there was someone on the other end of this door, other times there wasn't.

Gavin walked down the hallway, doing everything he could to step silently as he moved. He peered around a nearby corner as another scream filled his ears. It was filled with pain, suffering and defeat as the sound went over him like ice water. God, he hated these premonitions. He knew they weren't happening right that second, but how many times can a person see their loved ones being brutally tortured and executed without freaking out about it?

Gavin let out a sigh. He knew his magic wasn't going to work here, nor his shifter abilities make any difference. At this point he felt like a puppet, being pulled along by the puppeteers strings. He turned the corner to see the familiar generic two guards standing in front of the door that would have the three girls locked up inside. The men turned, raising their rifles at Gavin as he ducked back behind the wall. They quickly made their way over, chasing him down. As they made the corner Gavin struck fast with the pipe. He knocked the first one's gun to the side and followed up with a swift kick between the legs of the second one. The first one tried to swing on Gavin and he quickly turned and slammed his fist into the face of the first one.

As the first man crumpled to the ground, Gavin turned and delivered a nasty kick to the side of the head of the second man that was clutching his junk in his hands. Both men were down and out. Just for fun, Gavin took one of the rifles and double checked the ammo it had. He made his way over to the door and opened it, expecting to see three beautiful women chained from the ceiling.

He couldn't have been more wrong. This time, hanging from the ceiling by thick heavy chains were Helena, Jackson and Erza. All three were stripped naked and brutally tortured from the looks of it. Each of them had a multiple of stab wounds and slashes along their bodies. They were drenched in their own blood from the brutal torture. What broke Gavin's heart the most was Erza appeared very pregnant this time, her belly severely distended from the unborn baby.

As Gavin took all that in, something inside him snapped. Why? Why would his heritage show him this gruesome scene? He was filled with a rage and bloodlust so severe it was all consuming. He wanted someone to blame for this, someone to rip apart and feed on their entrails. His body shook from the rage as he rushed forward, trying to help, knowing this wasn't real and unable to act differently. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to close the distance between himself and the three hanging.

His anger was mounting at his uselessness. Why? Why did he have to continually witness this nightmare? This one was different though, he would admit. This was the first one that had Helena and Jackson tied up. The back door opened, like it always did. Instead of the blonde man with the scar on the left side of his face, the blonde man from the attack that Gavin fought with his grandfather walked out. His eyes cold, calculating and determined as he stared down at Gavin. "So, you finally came?" the man spoke. His voice was deep and rich as he kept his eye on Gavin.

"You killed my brother, so I will take from you everything you hold dear," the man said as he pulled out a pistol and Gavin watched with indignation and horror as the first round killed Helena, her head slumped forward, inert and lifeless. Gavin screamed in rage and hatred as he struggled to reach the man. He would kill him, rip his throat out and bathe in his entrails. He just had to get to him. Then nothing in this world would prevent his wrath.

No matter what Gavin tried, he could not close the gap between them. He lifted the rifle, and just as he expected the gun jammed when he attempted to fire. He threw it to the side angrily as he watched helplessly while the blonde man kept his smile on his face. He walked over to Jackson who coughed up blood and looked at Gavin.

"Sorry bro, we tried to save her," he said hoarsely as the gun was lifted and the shot rang out, nailing Jackson between the eyes. His head slammed back before it fell forward. Blood poured from the wound as he hung there, lifeless and immobile.

Gavin cried out in frustration, tears pricking his eyes. Why? Why did he have to suffer through and watch this? What was his visions trying to tell him? Was this guy still alive? Did he somehow survive the supernova spell Gavin unleashed that decimated the Grand Arena? He gritted his teeth as he knew what was going to happen next.

"Wake up baby." Erza said weakly. "Come find me, quit stalling and save me. You promised you'd always come find me. It's time baby, I need you now. WAKE UP," she said. Her weak voice grew into a shout as the final gunshot sounded through the small room. The sound loud and powerful as he felt his heart stop. Erza's head snapped back and fell forward, blood flowing freely between her eyes.

Gavin felt utterly broken as he witnessed that final execution. He fell to his knees and wept in rage and horror as all three of his family were slaughtered. His unborn child, slaughtered. He had to do something. He had to find the meaning behind this premonition and do something to stop this from happening.

As he wept on the floor, furious over his inability to protect his new pack, he felt his consciousness being pulled away from this premonition. Tears still flowed down his cheeks as he was pulled along, the room disappeared, and the bodies of his now dead pack were gone from sight.

After what felt like only a few moments he came to a sudden stop. He found himself in a room he'd only been in one time before. He was seated in a wooden chair with a soft cushion on it. Stone pillars lined the wall with statues of different men and women of importance. Sitting in front of Gavin on a large opulent marble stone throne, was a long, blonde-haired man in a simple white robe.

"You bastard!" Gavin said as he tried to lunge for the man. This was all his fault. He lied to Gavin. He told Gavin he'd get the strength to protect his family and loved one's. But it was all a lie.

Gavin was flung back into the chair as the good narrowed his eyes at Gavin. "Is that any thanks for giving you Veronica?" the man asked. He leaned back casually on his throne as he regarded Gavin with curiosity.

"You lied to me. You said I'd have the power to protect them," Gavin snarled out in anger. He wasn't really angry with him, just himself for his own weakness.

"You have grown exponentially in strength these past many months, have you not?" the god asked him.

Gavin sat back and bit his tongue before he snapped again. "Yes, I am thanks in large part to Veronica. But it's not enough." Gavin said as he hung his head in shame.

"I have come to you for a few different reasons. One, congratulations are in order. You have already reached a pinnacle of strength so early on that I did not think was possible," Koray said in pride. He never expected this young alpha shifter to utilize the AI system to such a degree.

"That being said, I pulled you here to give you some very important information. While you are being treated in the hospital, the man you fought has abducted your mate," Koray said, his face grim and serious.

Gavin's heart stopped beating for a moment. Erza was abducted. The bastard lived. He had to get back. He had to find her. "Send me back, immediately," Gavin demanded. He struggled against an invisible hold that kept him from leaving the chair.

"Calm yourself boy. We still have time before anything happens to her. When you return, get with your grandfather. He will have some information regarding the location of where she is being held. Act quickly Gavin, for time will not be on your side," Koray said before he waved his hand, and Gavin went flying back through the void of nothing.

Looks like this war was just beginning, Gavin thought. This time he would burn down the city to get to his mate and wouldn't stop until that man is ripped into pieces at his feet.
