Chapter 55 - Surprise Announcement.

Gavin was lying on the infirmary bed, trying his best to rest and recover his stamina after using the overdrive skill. He pushed his body way beyond what he should have during his match with Erick Lyons, but Gavin felt proud of the fact he was able to fight and win, even if it meant having to use such a risky skill. Erza sat by his bedside, scrolling mindlessly through his phone while they waited for the next batch of matches to get started.

This time Helena was going to be competing in the second round of the competition. Her opponent happened to be Erick's twin sister Kayla Lyons. The extent of her abilities were currently unknown, but Gavin assumed she was on par with her brother. In which case Helena would have a hard fight ahead of her.

Gavin tried to sit up, feeling some strength in his arms as he leaned against the back of the infirmary bed. He groaned from the effort as he tried to sit comfortably. Erza glared at him and his efforts. "I told you not to move. Save your strength," she said and elt out an exasperated sigh as she turned in her chair and helped him to sit with his back against the wall.

Gavin grinned as he kissed her cheek. "Since when do I ever listen baby?" Gavin asked softly, a spark of mischief in his eyes.

Erza rolled her eyes as she sat back in her chair. "You need to start," she said softly, her eyes glowing a faint yellow tinged with red.

Gavin noticed her eyes glowing and raised an eyebrow. "Whats with your eyes?" Gavin asked her suspiciously. He never noticed the red in her eyes before when they glowed.

Erza blinked a few times in surprise and the glow seemed to disappear when her eyes stopped glowing. "What do you mean?" She asked trying to play off being innocent.

"Your eyes, they normally only glow yellow when you focus ur mana and get ready to shift. Like mine glow red. But today, they just glowed yellow with red around your pupil," Gavin said as he reached out a hand to cup her cheek tenderly. "Is something wrong?" He asked, concern thick in her voice.

Erza bit her lip in indecision. Should she say something now, or wait until she had confirmation? Oh who was she kidding. Any test would only confirm what she and Helena already knew. She inhaled deeply, finally making up her mind.

She took his hand, and let it to her smooth stomach where their unborn child was growing in safety. "I think.... I think we have a little bun in the oven," she said softly in a barely audible voice.

Gavin felt his entire world shift. Did she just say she was pregnant? Then suddenly her actions lately all came flooding back to him. The numerous times being sick, the constant fatigue and the pale skin. The snappyness, and crankyness from her. Everything clicked in his mind at once.

Erza had tears prick the back of her eyes as she waited with baited breath for Gavin's reaction. Would he be angry? Upset? Or happy for their newly created life growing inside of her?

Gavin was about to reply when suddenly alarms sounded and screams could be heard. The distant sound of gunfire and explosions off in the distance were faint, but growing closer.

"Oh seven hells, what now?!" Erza growled out in anger and fear, her eyes glowing vibrant yellow with the red around her pupils. Her enhanced hearing was picking up the gunfire and screams. Glass could be heard shattering nearby in the arena hall itself.

All the arm bands of the students nearby started going off at once. "Attention. Attention. An unknown group is attacking the academy. All students are to report to the nearest faculty staff member for guidance. Alert. Unknown group is using deadly force. Avoid confrontation at all costs. If confronted use whatever means necessary for survival. Use of deadly force by students and staff is permitted. Security personnel are engaging with the attackers as this message is broadcasted." A deep male voice called out from the armbands on the students. If Gavin didn't know any better, he'd swear it professor Okeeba.

Erza's eyes shot up to meet Gavin's panicked face. He couldn't fight this time. His body was too weakened from the earlier match with Erick to fight. He could probably manage walking, but fighting and shifting was definitely out of the question.

"Bet you regret wasting the overdrive skill now, huh?" Erza snapped at him in frustration as she jumped to her feet. The other nurses in the infirmary began to take action. The earth Magi users among them began erecting some type of black stone material all along the walls, reinforcing their location to protect the injured students.

The head nurse, stepped forward to the center of the room. She was a young woman with bright green hair that fell down her back. "Everyone listen up! My name is Professor Jane, head nurse and head of medical magic. I am taking charge of this room. Right now the other staff are reinforcing the walls ceiling and doors of the infirmary in case of being attacked. We have five students injured and unable to fight fully with two of them," she said as she glared at Gavin and Erick who was laying nearby. "Unable to walk due to their conditions after their match. Listen to our instructions and we will get through this alive," Professor Jane called out.

Everyone immediately focused on the woman as she addressed them. In total there were five students in infirmary beds, eight nurses scattered around including Professor Jane, Erza, and a handful of other students that showed up to check on their friends after the matches. Oh yeah, Gavin thought, they were screwed.

Gavin grimaced as he forced himself to move in the bed, placing his feet on the floor. The exertion alone caused beads of sweat to gather in his forehead. The sheer will power it took for him just to do this much with his exhausted and drained body was nothing short of a miracle.

Master Gavin. Due to officially forming a pack with the proper magical means, you have access to communicate telepathically with the betas. Do you wish to do this now? Veronica's voiced called urgently in Gavin's mind.

Now you tell me this? Gavin responded with agitation. This would have been useful to know earlier. Yes make the connection. Gavin said as he waited for a response.

Done, just focus on your connection, the soul corridor that was formed between you and the betas and you will be able to send your thoughts across to them. Same for mistress Erza. Veronica explained after a short moment.

Gavin explained this new found pack ability to Erza. "I'll get with Jackson, you reach out to Helena. We will need everyone here together to fight," Gavin said weakly. God he hated being so weak. He hadn't felt this weak and pathetic since the night of the studio ambush. Not since he learned of his powers had he been this weak.

Erza didn't ask questions as she nodded. Helena, it's Erza. I'm using pack magic to communicate to you through telepathy. I'll explain later, right now I need you at the infirmary, immediately. I can't protect Gavin by myself. Erza said as she gave her first order to her beta.

Helena hesitated a moment in her reply. No doubt she was taken by surprise at the sudden mental thoughts. I'm on my way. What about Jackson? Helena asked her. She was already turning around from the arena and making a beeline back to the infirmary. The screams and sounds of battle were growing by the minute as she left.

Gavin is communicating with him. Both of you are needed. Erza replied as she looked at Gavin.

Gavin focused and finally connected to Jackson. Hey, second in command. I'll explain later, but boss needs you here on the double to save my hairy arse. I'm too weak at the moment to protect Erza. Gavin said as he connected his thoughts to Jackson.

Jackson replied almost instantly. I'm not far, be there soon. Is Helena already there? He asked, concern for his own girl thick in his mental voice.

Gavin responded, Not yet. Erza is talking to her now. I have to ask. Did you know, about Erza? Gavin asked him suddenly. Even in the middle of this crap, he had to know.

Jackson hesitated for a long moment before he replied. Yes, Helena told me this morning after she talked to Erza. We were sworn to secrecy until she could take a test and confirm it. Sorry boss. Jackson replied sincerely.

Gavin gritted his teeth. You and I will deal with this later. Right now I need you here to help protect my mate and child. Gavin said, and as he sent those thoughts his eyes began to glow a deep rich red, unlike anything they'd shown before. The sight of it took Erza's breath away.

"Oh no you don't," she snapped at him angrily. "Don't even think about fighting. You are nothing but a liability in the state you're in," she said as she stood in front of him, hands on her hips and glared at her stubborn wolf boy.
