"Good morning, Deputy Chief Trick-Kennedy! Long time no see, shall we have a drink together later?" (Chapter 221)

"Isn't that Captain Levis? What case are you working on this time?"

"Deputy Captain Valita, you've become even more beautiful after a few days!" (Chapter 224)

"Good morning, Chief Elmer, what brings you to the FBI? Did you come across another case…"

Walking along, Luo An encountered many acquaintances, some greeted him, and others greeted him in return.

Seeing this, Vireness twitched the corner of her mouth and felt speechless but also a sense of crisis.

It was indisputable that Luo An was outstanding; none of these people were blind – they wouldn't try to poach him, would they?!

Vireness wore a grave expression, contemplating how to keep Luo An by her side forever. As they passed by, other agents looked at Luo An with curiosity, and the nine leaders of the Special Investigation Team had complex expressions on their faces.

Most of the nine leaders of the Special Investigation Teams were seeing Luo An in person for the first time, and had never expected that they would be so taken aback from their very first encounter with him.

These leaders had worked for many years at the Washington Headquarters and were familiar with quite a number of people, but most did not know individuals with as high a status as those Luo An knew.

Take, for instance, the Deputy Chief of the Internal Threat Office at the FBI Washington Headquarters, Trick-Kennedy; the leaders of the various investigation teams were curious how Luo An came to know him.

While the other investigation team leaders were merely shocked by this spectacle, Essen Patel, who had chatted with Luo An the night before, suddenly turned pale.

To Essen Patel, it was clear that Luo An knowing so many people meant he understood the internal details of the review process far better than he did.

Not only had Luo An not shared a single detail with him, but he had also watched him struggle like it was a mere show!

A flash of anger crossed Essen Patel's eyes, but now was not the time to let it out. He suppressed his emotions and prepared to have a good talk with Luo An to establish a connection, and then...

In the waiting area, there were twelve chairs. Luo An sat at the other end, nine chairs away from Essen Patel, and started a low-voiced conversation with another leader from Miami, completely ignoring Essen Patel.

Essen Patel's mouth twitched. Seeing that there was an empty seat next to Luo An, he was about to move over there when the office door in front of everyone suddenly opened from the inside. A young agent holding a list asked:

"Which one of you is Essen Patel, the leader from Chicago? Please come into the office."

"…"

Essen Patel's eyelids twitched. He had never expected that he would be the first one to be called.

As he walked towards the office door, Essen Patel instinctively glanced at Luo An. Luo An responded with a slight smile, raising his arm to make a "good luck" gesture.

"#%*¥…"

Watching Essen Patel enter the office with a dark face, Luo An smiled slightly and continued to chat with the investigation team leader from Miami.

The so-called assessment and inspection time was not long. Less than twenty minutes later, Essen Patel walked out of the office. After several more went in and out, Luo An entered the office as the sixth person.

Directly in front of the office sat seven men in suits and leather shoes – one principal and six deputies, just as Group Supervisor Potante-Byrne had described.

"Deputy Group Leader from Los Angeles Special Investigation Team, Luo An Greenwood."

"Yes, sir."

"We've reviewed your file. You performed excellently during your time at the FBI Academy and quickly became a full-time agent after being assigned to the FBI New York Branch, where you then joined the Number Five Investigative Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Not much time has passed, and you've been recommended again, this time to Los Angeles, serving as the Deputy Leader of the Special Investigation Team where you resolved many cases. This undoubtedly proves that you are a capable person."

After saying this, the middle-aged Caucasian man in the middle stopped and quietly watched Luo An, who immediately began to share his thoughts:

"The rapid growth I've experienced in the FBI could not have been achieved without the guidance of my superiors and the help of my colleagues. They provided me with a lot, and through their words and actions, I've learned how to work within the FBI."

The middle-aged Caucasian man nodded, while the other assessors began scribbling on their papers. Luo An couldn't see exactly what they were writing. After they finished writing, the middle-aged man looked up at Luo An and continued to ask:

"What do you think is the most important thing for the Special Investigation Team?"

"Naturally, it's the commands from superiors, federal laws, and the case-solving rate."

Luo An maintained a calm demeanor, smiling, and articulated his views in a measured tone.

After hearing Luo An's words, the middle-aged Caucasian nodded again, his true thoughts unclear on his face. After several seconds of silence, he asked again:

"As the head of the Special Investigation Team's Los Angeles Branch, do you think there is a necessity for the existence of the Special Investigation Team?"

"..."

Upon hearing this, Luo An cursed inwardly, maintained his composure on the surface, and did not directly answer the other party's question. Instead, he explained the multifaceted impact that the establishment of the Special Investigation Team had on the FBI's Los Angeles Branch, as well as other law enforcement departments in Los Angeles.

His points were clear and easy to understand, and Luo An also briefly mentioned that Potante Byrne, the head of the investigation team from the Chicago Branch, had spoken highly of his ideas and attitude.

"..."

After Luo An's narration, the middle-aged Caucasian and others exchanged glances, having no more questions to ask.

"Deputy Group Leader Luo An Greenwood, your evaluation and assessment have concluded. You will receive the outcome notification within three days, and now you may leave."

"Understood, Chief."

Luo An smiled slightly, thanked the Chief briefly, and left the office.

Vireness had already left, and Trick Kennedy and the others were all busy. Seeing this, Luo An chatted with them briefly and then left the ruggedly styled building.

On Monday afternoon, Luo An and Mona took a plane from Washington, and not long after arriving in Los Angeles, Luo An saw John Rodriguez knocking on the door in the office area of the Special Investigation Team.

"Your information is indeed timely."

While leading John Rodriguez into the conference room, Luo An smiled and asked:

"You haven't had someone watching the entrance to the FBI's Los Angeles Branch building all the time, have you?"

"No, no, not at all."

John shook his head repeatedly, then said that he and many people at Los Angeles Airport have a common friend, named Franklin.

Franklin, a federally famous person daring to battle lightning, was also known for his portrait being printed on the 100 US Dollar bills.

He is now the president of the Mueller Group; using money to forge paths was nothing to him.

Taking a sip from his tea cup, Luo An got straight to the point without beating around the bush:

"What exactly do you need from me?"

"As Kara's father, I am here to express my sincere gratitude."

John stood up solemnly, took out a folder from his bag, and handed it to Luo An.

Inside was a legally gifted one million US Dollars of "investigation funding" from a company under the Mueller Group to the Special Investigation Team, there was also a three million US Dollars personal check signed by John Rodriguez, Madeline Allen, and Kara Mueller.

Seeing the three surnames of one family on the check, Luo An suppressed the urge to comment critically in his mind.

Without immediately accepting the check, Luo An crossed his legs and leaned back tactically, looked at John with a smile, and asked:

"Just simply to express gratitude?"

"You really live up to the title of Deputy Group Leader Greenwood, I knew I couldn't hide it from you."

John chuckled and sat back down, finishing the coffee on the table in one gulp. After pondering for a while, just as he was about to speak, the door to the conference room was violently opened, and team supervisor Potante Byrne walked in with a serious face, saying in a deep voice:

"Luo An, come with me quickly, there's been a major case outside."
