Elias finally woke up late at night, not because he wanted to, but because his stomach wouldn't stop growling.

He felt stiff, his muscles still aching from the previous night's ordeal. The memory of his father's overwhelming pressure was still fresh, but there was also a warmth within him that made him feel a little better.

"Feeling better?" Astralious materialized beside the bed. "You slept like a rock. I almost thought Silas had actually managed to break your spirit."

Elias swung his legs over the side of the bed, his body aching with every movement.

"Just tired and hungry." He glanced around the room. "Did anything happen while I slept?"

"Besides your Soul Beast wrecking the entire house?" Astralious replied, floating closer.

"That reminds me. Where is that little girl?" Elias landed on the ground, and left the bedroom.

Astralious wasn't panicking, and he didn't feel any soul injury, which made him certain that the girl was fine. So what did he mean by wrecking the house?

"Hah?" Elias had taken a step out of the bedroom, and he was greeted with a proper mess. Through the open door, he was able to peek at the nearby kitchen, which was absolutely wrecked.

It was as if a storm had wrecked through this place. "What happened here? Did our kitchen get robbed?"

"It would be better if we were robbed. But what you see before you, is nothing but an attempt by your soul beast to cook."

In the Land of Fables, Lycorice was fed well. She could eat the fruits that she grew, and she didn't need to cook anything. So her experience in these things was lackluster at best.

Elias stepped inside the kitchen. There was black slurry on the shelves that looked like some monster's innards had exploded. Even poison would have looked more delicious.

On top of the slurry, there was a small book floating. The book had the last page open, which showed a depiction of a person eating some delicious looking soup.

"She waited for you to wake up, but she was so hungry that she started looking around for things to eat. And then she saw that..." Astralious facepalmed himself, before pointing at a book.

"A cooking book? Isn't it a simple guide to help students settle in, and cook something if we really need it? Can she even read it?"

"She wasn't able to read it. That was the problem. She saw the pictures and the depiction of the cooking. She tried it on her own, and the results were disgusting. Even if I was dying, I wouldn't want to eat the things that she cooked."

"At least this place didn't explode. We can give her some credit for that." Elias walked out of the kitchen and went to the main hall, where the girl was sitting across a table.

There was a bowl before her, which was already half empty. She had a spoon in her hand, and she kept eating that disgusting slurry, even though the taste was so disgusting that it made her go pale.

After hearing the footsteps, Lycorice turned around. Her pale face regained some color, and a smile formed on her lips. She stood up like an excited child who was happy that Elias was awake.

"Are you eating that?" Elias asked the girl, looking at her with pity. He was so immersed in sleeping, that he had forgotten that the girl had nothing to eat. Even though she was a fable, she also needed to eat.

The girl nodded, and there was pride in her eyes. She didn't know that she had made something bad. She simply believed that this was how human food was supposed to taste, as she had never eaten it before.

Elias looked at the bowl, which was half filled with that disgusting black soup. He had the delicacies of earth in his storage ring, yet his soup beast was eating such things. He felt quite bad.

He thought about giving her some of the food that he had been storing, but when he saw the pride and optimism in her eyes, he couldn't get himself to tell her that she made something bad.

"Did you make this?" He approached the table, thinking about complimenting her a little before taking this thing away. Unfortunately, his stomach growled once more.

Lycorice was taken aback. She knew that it meant he was hungry. She quickly dipped the spoon in the black soup.

After filling the spoon completely, she brought it closer to Elias's lips. "You are also hungry. Eat."

"Eww. Don't eat that poison!" Astralious didn't hide the disgust on his face. "Just tell her that it's disgusting."

Elias didn't pay heed to his words, and opened his lips. He drank the soup. His body momentarily flinched. The soup tasted worse than he had imagined.

He smiled wryly and nodded, "It is good. It's exactly as this dish should have tasted."

He didn't tell her that the soup was bad. He also didn't tell her that it was the best thing in the world that humans could eat.

He kept his words vague, to give him some room in the future to introduce other foods to her that were hiding in his storage.

Lycorice looked genuinely happy after getting complimented. Her pale face bloomed like a beautiful flower. Suddenly, all the effort she placed in the cooking seemed worth it.

Seeing her smile, even Elias felt like tasting this thing was worth it. Unfortunately, that happiness lasted only until the girl moved the entire bowl towards him.

"Have more."

"See? That's why you should've listened to me." Astralious crossed his arms, scoffing at Elias's choice.

Elias felt his heart suddenly die at the thought of eating this thing, a spoonful each time.

'Rather than suffering every second, I would end this with a short burst of suffering.'

He grabbed the bowl with both his hands, and drank it in one sip. His face slowly lost color, and the taste made him want to vomit, but he held on.
