Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 55: Deathflash
Chapter 55 - Deathflash

The room was good enough. Walls were laid with stone bricks that provide proper shelter and good soundproofing. The floors were made of reinforced stone embedded with magic warding runes.
Making it easier to train in magic and martial arts.
It was the Guild's private training quarters provided to only high-ranking Mazekins who are contracted with them or a privileged member.
Just like me.
It works in my favour, since I don't want to reveal the colour of my lightning to other people.
Stretching my arms and legs, I unsheathed the sword from the scabbard. "So Dante... What technique did you want to teach me?"
[Yep, it is a bit hard, but I think you should be able to do it now.] Dante said.
He wanted to teach me something about my affinities—something about making them work together.
[You do know elemental fusion, right?]
"Of course, it is the mixing of two elemental affinities that are compatible with each other," I stated. "It was one of the combo mechanics in the game."
"If let's say one has the affinity of earth and water, the said person can combine them both to create mud or quick sand. Allowing them to trap their opponents."
[Yep, and it is the case with fire and earth too, they can form molten rocks to create lava. Now, say...] Dante paused as if choosing his next words carefully.
[What about the ones that are not compatible with each other? Like, let's say your lightning and shadow affinities. One is fast and destructive, and the other is slow and manipulative. What will happen if you try to fuse them?]
"I don't know..." I replied, rubbing my chin. "They cancel out each other?"
[That but a bit more violent.]
"What do you mean?"
[Let's just say your Mana core will explode from the counter-force.] Dante explained.
"I see, but what do you want me to do with that?" I asked.
[Combine them.]
"You are kidding, right?" I let out a nervous chuckle.
[No,] He replied bluntly. [By combining them, I meant let the lightning wear the shadows.]
"I don't know," I sighed. If I were to do exactly as he says, I would just fry my mana circuits and blow up my core.
But if I could master it... I can make something that—that is as fast as lightning and as silent as a shadow.
Something that can disrupt the mana flow of lightning while being invisible.
"Let's do it then," I smiled, taking a seat on the stone floor. Crossing my legs in a lotus position.
"Let's get stronger."

My grip on the dark blade tightened. My eyes darkened, my chest surging with pain as I inhaled and exhaled.
I have no other way...
If I wanted to get out of here alive, I had to make a choice—Either I somehow hold out until someone descends to the fifth floor.
Which I don't know how long it will take.
Or.
Use the combination technique that I had learned. I might be able to beat Arvax with it, but if I don't control it properly.
I might lose the ability to control Mana.
Forever.
My teeth ground together, jaw tightening as the cold bit into my skin. My technique is an anomaly, too, just like Frostfire.
[Noah, are you sure? You are not in good condition.]
Is there even any other way? My shadows freeze when they get close. My lightning is easily dodged. What do I even have left other than that?
[...]
Dante remained quiet, which I took as a sign of agreement. My eyes flicked back to Arvax—armour broken, Ardentfall burning with frostfire in one hand. His wings spread wide behind his back.
*You fought well till now, child.* His wings spread further, blowing a gust of wind. *But this is the end.*
He charged towards me. Legs above the ground—airborne. His halberd arched backwards, ready for an end-defining strike.
But instead of moving, I closed my eyes. Focusing on the mana that flew from the circuits to the core and from the core to the circuits.

My body could feel it, the purple mana that ran within me—my lightning. The dark mana that coiled around it—my shadow. I could feel them.
Pain exploded in my chest as if something had stabbed me. It was my mana core reacting violently to the fusion.
I opened my eyes, settling the energy in my body. The mana circuits in my body bulged like worms writhing under my skin.
Seeing this, Arvax stopped his advance. His body floating in mid-air, his blue orbs narrowing on me. *What is happening?* He looked perplexed as if he did not understand it.
I cracked a small smile. Black lightning crackling around me, but there was no sound. They were silent as a falling snow but violent like a crackling whiplash. I held my blade backwards, focusing it all on one clean strike.
"Let's just say... This is the end."
[Deathflash]
SHHK!
Thud!
A black arc of lightning appeared, but it went as fast and silently as it came. The sound of flesh being cut echoed throughout the room.
"COUGH, COUGH," My mind felt more dizzy as if something had drained me out of my last essence. Blood flowed out of my eyes and mouth, its metallic taste lingering on my tongue. The dark blade dissolved from my arms, meeting with the shadows below.
My chest felt empty, body aching and on the verge of breaking. I collapsed onto one knee, my vision darkened even further.
I won't stay conscious for long. I have to—
*AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!* A cry of deep agony pierced through my thoughts. My eyes widened as my gaze snapped towards the source.
It was Arvax.
Or what remained of him.
The right side of his body—from his shoulder to his thigh—was sliced off. His other half was twitching on the cold floor below. His mid chest still remained intact. The place where his core was.
I had missed.
You have to be kidding me!
His wings of flames had extinguished. The halberd, which he held in his right hand, was nowhere to be seen, or that's what I thought.
CHAK-KRRSH!
The huge pole arm landed between the two of us. Getting itself embedded on the ice floor. It's frame still covered by the blue and white flame.
"Fuck," I cursed. Standing up with what little strength I had left in my body. "Why won't you just fucking die?"
I moved towards him, each step feeling like an unnecessary burden that I had to carry. I had to finish what I started.
This fight for now and forever.
My hands instinctively grabbed the shaft of the halberd. It's fire spreading across my arms, freezing my skin. But that did not matter.
What mattered that this fucking undead was sent to his grave.
So that it could never crawl out again.
I dragged the halberd towards him, its tip scratching the ice below. The frost had started to gather on my face, on my chest, on my back.
Everywhere.
[Noah, it is harming you. Don't use it.]
Shut up.
But I pushed through, standing in front of his half remains. There was no blood, only burns like black charcoal had been rubbed across his rotten flesh.
His body still trembled, his one knee buckling. His hands planted on the floor, giving him the support he needed. His orbs looked up at me, but not with what I had expected.
I thought he would be scared.
But no, till his fate, he seemed resolute. And somewhat relieved.
*At last, I can rest. I pray to Lady Glacia—*
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" I lifted the halberd in a single motion, planting its rear spike right at his mid chest. A shattering noise rang out, his blue orbs dimmed as the mana that kept him alive released into the surroundings.
< Congratulations, Host! You defeated Arvax the Oathbound.>
A blue screen flashed in front of my heavy eyes. A smile as sharp as a jagged knife formed on my lips. "I—I won..." My head leaned backwards, my gaze onto the cracked ceiling of the room.
The flames encircling the edges of the room and the exit vanished with a whooshing sound. The halberd pushed in the corpse slowly started fading.
A sharp pain struck my arm, making me wince. My eyes landed on the right arm as a blue sigil with sharp lines formed over it. "What?" I uttered, trying to make sense of what was happening.
But before I could further make sense, my mind reeled. My legs lost their last remaining strength as my body fell forward.
[Noah!] Dante shouted.
"Sir Dimitri!"
"Dimitri!"
Who?
My mind wanted to make out the new voices, but as my body hit the ice floor below. My subconscious became one with the dark void.

A/N: This whole fight drained me more than a demoness ever could. Well, Frostcove arc is over with the next one.
