Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 50: Frostcove Maze(3)
Chapter 50 - Frostcove Maze(3)
"No holding back,"
My silver aura coiled around the blade of my sword, and amethyst lightning crackled at my legs. On the opposite side, the knight's aura remained refined, his stance perfect and poised.
The mage swung his staff, his jaw moving with a chant. Mana surged from him as spikes of ice formed behind his back.
For a moment, none of us moved an inch.
Everything came to a halt.
[Noah, this will be tough.] Dante said, his voice completely serious.
Should I use the thing you taught me?
[No.]
Why?

[That would be too dangerous, and you are not used to it yet.]
Right.
Before I could talk with Dante further, a shadow loomed over me. The knight lunged, his blade swinging in a wide horizontal arc.
I rolled under the swing, the blade missing me by a hair's breadth. I regained my footing and charged at him, the aura around my blade flickering violently like a fire would in a strong wind.
Clang!
The knight raised his shield, blocking the attack. Though his feet slid backwards, on the ice floor. The attack clearly had its pressure, the shield was slightly dented.
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
But before I could attack the stumbling knight further, lances of ice flew towards me with a dreadful spin. I stepped back, the ice floor cracked as the spikes landed one by one.
My gaze snapped back to the mage who flew in the distance, waving his staff in the air and moving his mouth to chant.
That guy is going to be annoying.
My eyes switched to the knight, who had regained his balance. And he did not falter from attacking me again.
He charged towards me with a low thrust, his shield hanging by the side. I sidestepped following his blade that gleamed, but his orbs looked at me.
The knight twisted mid-thrust, swinging his sword at me. But this time, there was no dodging or rolling.
Clang!
Our blades met with a thunderous sound that echoed throughout the whole area. Our swords met at a hold that created sparks. My hands trembled beneath the knight's force.
[Noah, that mage is attacking!] Dante warned.
My eyes flicked from the knight to the mage; this time, he did not have five or six lances but an army of them. Hundreds of lances floated in the air.
And then, when the mage lowered his staff, all of them blitzed towards us.
"Fuck!" I cursed and pulled back from the hold. But the knight did not stop, he was dead set on locking me in. Our blades met over and over again, each strike running a jolt through my bones, but time was running out.
That fucker has a shield but I don't and [Veil of Nocturne] Won't be able to withstand this attack. I clenched my teeth and pulled away.
I needed a cover, not spells—Voltstep was useless as it does not cover long distances.
And I did not mark any shadows to teleport to. I had no choice but to find cover or sustain the attack, which I can't afford.
There was none.
No Cover.
Nothing.
My heart thumped in my chest as the lances spun in the air. The knight chased after me from behind. Even if I survive the barrage, he would get me mid-defence.
And then it clicked, my eyes flicked towards the mage. I turned towards him, my legs crackling with electricity.
It would cost mana, but if I pull it off, I can win!
[Stormstride]
My legs blazed with amethyst lightning, and the vision from the side of my eye blurred. I cut through the air with sheer speed alone, every step cracking the ice floor below.
The lances dropped over me, but I dodged and cleaved. Making my way over to the mage, who flinched as I approached him with thundering speed.
Few lances grazed my arms and cheeks, blood oozing out of the cuts, but I did not stop. I am taking this fucker down with me.
I am not dying to some low-level experience farms.
[What are you planning, Noah?"]
I ignored Dante and halted right before the mage, his figure stumbled back. My blade followed his frame.
Aimed at the middle of his chest.
At his mana core.
Screek!
A translucent white barrier stopped the strike, shattering as it deflected my blade off my hands. My body skidded backwards from the impact.
But it was enough.
That was all I needed.
[Shadow Forge] I mumbled, forming a sword from my shadows.
The mage regained his form, his wand waving in the air to form another spell, not lances of ice or spikes. I knew what it was. The tip of the staff pulsed with a bright white-blue light.
Frost Explosion!
"Not fucking today!"
I surged towards him with the dark blade in my hand. My other hand forcefully gripped his staff, lowering it to the floor.
I pushed the blade in his ribs, into his mana core. The shadow forged sword ate at his bones, piercing through them with enough force.
Crack!
The sound cracking blessed my ears, the glowing orbs of the mage slowly dwindling—fading as its skeletal structure slowly came undone. A smile appeared on my lips. But then...
Sizzle...
White light flashed from below, my eyes widened as I shifted my gaze to look at the mage's staff. "No! No! No!" I screamed. I tried to push away, but it was too late.
Booom!
A white explosion occurred. I was thrown back, ragdolling on the ice floor. Pain shot through my face and arms as the frost bit into my skin.
The mage completed the spell before it died.
"Cough... Cough... Fuuuck," I slowly stood up from the floor, my vision hazy. But the show was not over yet. A white smoke of cold covered the area, there were no movements or sounds.
Only silence.
[Noah, he is here.]
Something shot out of the smoke, its figure blurred. The only thing visible was the two blue orbs that now burned more intensely.
He stopped right in front of me, his blade held upwards. Ready to swipe down in a vertical arc that would surely split me in half.
No!
[Shadow Forge]! I shouted, and a blade of darkness formed in my hands. I swung at his blade, meeting it with a heightened intensity.
Sparks flew as the two of us locked eyes. His glowing orbs showed that he was angry because I had fucked up his lover or something.
"Hey," I said, my lips forming a mocking smile. "Miss your lover already?"
His eyes further flared, his blade crashing onto me with more force. My hands were trembling from the pain and pressure. If I hold any further, I will die.
[Voltstep] I mumbled, my legs crackled with lightning, and then with a purple flash, my body blurred, disappearing from the sight of the knight. Appearing a few metres behind him.
THUD!!!
His blade crashed down onto the cold floor, creating a web-like crack beneath it. The blade plunged itself into the hard glacial floor, making it harder for the knight to pull it out.
The poor knight pulled on the handle, trying his hardest. But the blade would only budge a little. It gave me enough time that I needed...
To finish this son of a bitch off and send him to his lover.
"You thought I was out of mana," I let out a small chuckle, tapping onto my storage ring and pulling out another sword. "But, I was just caught off guard by that explosion."
I pulled my blade back, amethyst lightning violently crackling around it. I focused on my breathing, on my mana that flowed through the circuits. My eyes lit up with amethyst colour as the final thing I saw was the knight trying his hardest to pull out the sword.
