Chapter 83: The young adults.

The camp was supposed to be for children, mostly. And yet, the campers that had made a reservation were not children. They were all adults between their mid twenties to fifties. One even looked older, he was probably approaching eighty.

When Mei Mei met them, her jaw almost dropped to the ground. Behind her, holding a clipboard and wearing a badge that identified him as the director’s assistant Jingzhe was similarly appalled.

Mei Mei looked away from the group to the employees behind them, she tilted her head and raised her eyebrows at the counselor Wu Qing. "You said young adults."

When she heard young adults, Mei Mei had pictured sixteen to eighteen year olds not this age group. What was even more ridiculous than the age was the way they were dressed. Some were wearing oversized hoodies with all the latest animes teenagers loved currently. Some women had styled their hair in two pigtails with childish ribbons holding them up.

The eighty year old or so Mei Mei assumed was chewing gum in an annoying way, with an open mouth like a miscreant.

"Side bar." Mei Mei gestured at Wu Qing.

Jingzhe followed them to form a circle of three.

"You said young adults!" Mei Mei hissed.

Wu Qing was equally exasperated, she shrugged and shook her head. "It was an online reservation, we asked for names and ages of the children which were provided." She accessed the camp website and opened the reservations page, bringing up the information on this group.

"They filled in there ages. All of them are supposed to be teenagers between thirteen to eighteen. I was just as flabbergasted when they showed up."

Mei Mei lifted her head and looked back at the group that was shuffling nervously.

"Should we give them a refund and send them away?" Wu Qing asked.

The words refund threw Mei Mei off, as if her body had been picked up and thrown into a lake of ice cold water. She would rather run naked in a storm than give anyone a refund.

"No, no, no...we do not do refunds at Pearl space camp." She moved a finger left and right, rejecting Wu Qing’s suggestion strongly. "Other’s refund us, we don’t refund others. They lied about their ages, they should pay us for the mental distress they are putting us through. Look at the way the oldest one is chewing that gum."

All three looked at the man who was trying to pop a gum bubble unsuccessfully. It ended up all over his mouth.

"Manager Gao, I told you to the gum was a bad idea." A woman from the group told the old man.

Mei Mei frowned and turned to Wu Qing. "Who paid the reservation? It seems like they are from the same group."

Jingzhe looked away from the women and wiped sweat from his left brow. At the same time, he glared at one of the men in the group. his assistant Xu Jian. He had given Xu Jian simple instructions, reward fifteen of their best workers with a membership in Pearl Space camp. The reward was for their children, not the parents.

What the hell were the parents doing here? How did they look like children? One of them, director Ma Feng was struggling to fit into a small shirt that he used to wear in his teenage years. It looked like it was about to burst under pressure from his pot belly.

Xu Jian raised his hands, shaking his head and gesturing that he was also confused. Many more things were confusing him like why his boss was working as an assistant in this camp and why he had forbade them from revealing his identity.

Wu Qing scrolled through the information and nodded when she found what she was looking for. "Zhang Hui, a talent recruiter from Blue Galactic."

Mei Mei hissed, exposing her teeth like a feral cat on the prowl that had collided with another feral cat and they were about to fight for territory.

"Him! that rogue!" She exclaimed.

Unaware of her boss’s one sided enmity with the CEO of Blue Galactic, Wu Qing’s mind got clarity and she explained the possible reasons for why this group of people had come to the camp. "They are in the space business so it is not surprising that they are here. We have received a lot of interest from various companies in the space business interested in making reservations and touring the camp. What should we do about them?"

"I am not refunding Blue Galactic’s money--EVER." Mei Mei declared.

She walked back to the group and put on a smile. "Hello, welcome to Pearl Space Camp, I am the director Jun Meilin, this is my assistant Jingzhe and counselor Wu Qing."

The group smiled, some waved and a few muttered hello’s. Their eyes however were on Jingzhe, wary because it suddenly felt as if they had been called in to work on the weekend and they were not here for fun. It didn’t help that they had been told on arrival that they were too old for the ages they had filled in.

The fault was on Zhang Hui, she had not told them until they arrived that there had been a mistake and the camping event was not for them but their children.

Then, she had come up with this ridiculous idea to dress up like teenagers and go in anyway since the company was paying for it and they could not waste company resources.

"How old are you?" Mei Mei looked at Manager Ma, the oldest of the group.

"Um, like....sixteen," Manager Ma responded, voice a degree higher than usual. He threw in a head nod for good measure and said, "Sup."

The rest of the group wished the ground would open up and swallow them. Jingzhe’s eyes almost tore Xu Jian to pieces. What the hell was "Sup?" Manager Ma was obviously trying too hard.

"No cap." Manager Gao, the oldest of the group added and he tried to pop bubble gum again, and again he failed.

Jingzhe hid his face behind the clipboard, it was best if he was not associated with any of these people.

Liu Fang, one of the women waved her phone and she giggled, "Everyone, let’s take a selfie, we are slaying in these outfits."

"Cool." Another said. "No cap." she added.

Mei Mei sighed tiredly, they were beyond trying too hard. The ridiculous outfits and English slangs, finger signs, none of it was impressive. "Just register and go in. Do not fight the children for spots. We give them special priority here."

The group of old young adults followed handed in their luggage and followed Jingzhe to the sleeping and storage area.

"I told you that it would work." Zhang Hui said triumphantly.

No it hasn’t, Mei Mei thought. You are all embarrassing yourselves.

"Boss, we don’t have an age limit on the camp. Should we set one?" Wu Qing asked her.

Mei Mei shook her head. "We don’t need it, the camp welcomes everyone as long as they are paying." She looked at Wu Qing and reminded her again. "No refunds."
