Ever since leaving Mount Huaguo, the Sunlight Bodhisattva and the Moonlight Bodhisattva had already begun their arrangements over the Eastern Sea.
However, just when they thought that Sun Wukong, without the Demon King of Chaos to obstruct him, would surely head to the Eastern Sea, they ended up waiting for over a decade without catching sight of him.
Not only that, it seemed that Sun Wukong hadn’t even taken a step out of Mount Huaguo at all.
Even those monkey offspring were nowhere to be seen.
Mount Huaguo still teemed with countless creatures, just no monkeys in sight.
After waiting yet another year, the Moonlight Bodhisattva and the Sunlight Bodhisattva could not hold back anymore and once again came to the skies above Mount Huaguo.
Revisiting the old place, they once more arrived at the location of Sun Wukong’s cave dwelling, and this time, countless more formations had been added outside Sun Wukong’s cave, each being countless times more powerful than the ones set up before.
Previously, just a single Great Formation had left them disoriented and questioning their existence, let alone the current situation.
And based on their last experience with the formations, this time it was obviously going to be more complex.
“Senior brother, what should we do?”
Moonlight Bodhisattva, witnessing this scene, felt a headache coming on.
They had assumed it would be easy – it was just a monkey who had lived for a few hundred years, after all.
At first, they allowed the monkey to go out to sea smoothly.
Things went very well and the monkey was quite simple-minded.
However, ever since the monkey came back from the Slanting Moon Three Stars Cave, everything had changed.
The monkey had become cautious, he had become cunning.
“What else can we do but wait?”
Sunlight Bodhisattva said resignedly.
Moonlight Bodhisattva knew that, apart from waiting, there was no other way.
Even if they had entered the formations with the Demon King of Chaos to break them, they could not succeed, much less now.
If they were to rashly intrude, this time both of them might not be able to get out, which would not only be embarrassing but also alert the enemy.
With no other options available, it seemed they didn’t have another choice.
Then, in the blink of an eye, more than a decade had passed.
There was still no change on Mount Huaguo, not to mention Sun Wukong, his monkey offspring also hardly made an appearance.
If not for the formations still being there, just as they were when first discovered, the Sunlight Bodhisattva and the Moonlight Bodhisattva might have even begun to doubt whether they had come to the wrong place.
But for none of these monkeys to show up was indeed too strange.
“Senior brother, until when shall we wait?”
Though time was not important to them as buddhas, how long would they have to keep waiting before they could carry out the Journey to the West?
“Let’s go!”
At this moment, the Sunlight Bodhisattva seemed to have made a decision.
“Where to?”
Moonlight Bodhisattva looked at the Sunlight Bodhisattva with puzzlement.
“Back to the Western Paradise!”
The Sunlight Bodhisattva said, frowning.
Over twenty years had passed; time was not important to them, but the Journey to the West was.
Sun Wukong could afford to delay, but they could not.
The key point was with the formations intact, they couldn’t enter, and the only option seemed to go back West to see if there were any solutions.
Then the Sunlight Bodhisattva and the Moonlight Bodhisattva turned into flashes of light and vanished from Mount Huaguo, heading swiftly towards the Ultimate Bliss World in the Western direction.
They both acknowledged that they had no means to deal with Sun Wukong, but they were confident that the Western Buddhist Sect must have someone who could.
After all, Buddhism had no shortage of powerful beings.
This was also the first time they had returned to Mount Meru since they left to plan for the Calamity of Measurement.
The key issue was that they had planned for hundreds of years, arranged everything properly, but Sun Wukong was not cooperating.
Had there been any other way, they definitely would not have returned to Mount Meru so readily.
The two moved with incredible speed, soaring through the sky, and within a short time, the horizon was ablaze with the boundless Buddha’s light, dazzling and blinding.
Under the full sky of Buddha’s light, there were countless Bodhi trees, lotus flowers, and Posa trees.
Moreover, the sounds of chanting and playing of numerous monks were unceasing to the ear.
Sunlight Bodhisattva and Moonlight Bodhisattva descended on their lotus platforms and immediately drew the attention of countless Shami, Garan, and Bodhisattvas.
“Amitabha Buddha, welcome back, Bodhisattvas.
Forgive us for not greeting you from afar!”
An Arhat approached, palms pressed together, chanting a Buddha’s name before speaking.
Sunlight Bodhisattva and Moonlight Bodhisattva, having accepted the Order of Law to leave Mount Meru for the Journey to the West to plan for the Calamity of Measurement, were only known to a select few high-ranking individuals.
Ordinary Shamis, Arhats, and Garan were generally unaware.
“A minor matter has arisen, we seek an audience with our Buddha Tathagata!”
Although the two came because they were angered by the monkey, now that they had returned to Mount Meru and felt the peaceful aura and Buddha’s light, their minds had also settled down considerably.
Sakyamuni Tathagata is the current Buddha presiding over the Western Paradise.
He is also the one designated by Zhunti and Amitabha Buddha to oversee the implementation of this iteration of the Journey to the West and the Calamity of Measurement.
It could be said that Sakyamuni Tathagata is the spokesperson for the two Saints.
“Our Buddha Tathagata is inside the Great Thunderclap Monastery, please!”
Upon hearing this, the Arhat did not dare to obstruct them and made a gesture for them to proceed.
After thanking the Arhat, Sunlight Bodhisattva and Moonlight Bodhisattva entered the Great Thunderclap Monastery.
The Great Thunderclap Monastery was resplendent with gold and jade.
Buddha’s light shone everywhere, and the air seemed to be filled with the sound of Buddhist chanting.
A gigantic golden body towered several dozen feet high.
With a plump face and big ears full of auspiciousness, its back was illuminated by dazzling Buddha’s light.
It was Sakyamuni Tathagata himself.
At that moment, aside from the Tathagata, the Great Thunderclap Monastery was empty.
On seeing the two arrive,
“For what reason have you come?”
Sakyamuni Tathagata looked at Sunlight and Moonlight as they pressed their palms together and chanted a Buddha’s name before speaking.
“Also, why have you not hastened the Journey to the West and the Havoc in Heaven by that monkey, when the start of the Calamity of Measurement is already decades overdue?
What brings you to the Ultimate Bliss World?”
Sakyamuni Tathagata spoke slowly, his eyes filled with compassion, without a trace of reprimand.
However, upon hearing the Tathagata’s words, Sunlight Bodhisattva and Moonlight Bodhisattva could not help but show signs of panic.
“According to the plan, we had the Macaque go to…”
Sunlight Bodhisattva quickly recounted the events.
Listening to Sunlight Bodhisattva’s words, Sakyamuni Tathagata’s brow wrinkled.
“The Macaque is vigilant and has set up a Formation, refusing to step out?
Unable to proceed with the Journey to the West?”
Sakyamuni Tathagata frowned.
“Yes, World Honored One, we indeed do not have a solution, and we also cannot easily break the Formation.
More importantly, Sun Wukong is of great significance to our Buddhism, so we must not let him realize that we in Buddhism are scheming against him!”
With so many constraints, Sunlight Bodhisattva truly did not know what else could be done.
Hearing Sunlight Bodhisattva’s words, Sakyamuni Tathagata nodded repeatedly.
After all, Sun Wukong, after the Calamity of Measurement associated with the Journey to the West ends, is to join Buddhism to achieve the rank of Fighting Victory Buddha, and the Macaque’s status is exalted.
Whether in the future or now, it was naturally imperative to keep Sun Wukong from realizing that Buddhism played a part.
“Please, World Honored One, give your instruction!”
Sunlight Bodhisattva and Moonlight Bodhisattva bowed together.
Sakyamuni Tathagata remained calm.
“Since that is the case, you should borrow the Dream-Yuan Zen Method from Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva to bewilder the monkey and send that Macaque to the East Sea Dragon Palace!”
“This matter is of utmost importance, not to be neglected.
Go now!”
