Insect Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 110: Road to level 5 (2)
"With the missions being tougher than usual, Theo started his training again.
This time, his first focus was to level up.
He had already graduated from the moss slime territory, which was the worst to defeat now in terms of EXP gain.
Mantis killed vipers one after another; the points needed to reach level 4 were very few.
Theo saw the progress bar fill up after every viper in satisfaction. Another milestone was going to be completed soon enough.
While he was observing everything in safety, Theo started feeling something else too.
It was a weird feeling for him. All this time, when he was in a forest, he couldn't help but want to feel safe.
But since the interaction with the viper they captured, his 'fear' of going close to dangerous situations and beasts had diluted a little.
Theo was now curious as to what he could do by himself to such creatures.
Till now, the skills he had acquired were rookie-level hand-to-hand combat and dagger throwing.
It was not enough to start going out on his own trying to defeat beings that had spikes coming off their bodies.
It made him wonder how a gun in his world was made. Theo had no idea he would need such knowledge one day.
And all the things he knew how to make were already in this world—only better.
In just about half an hour, the mantis had leveled up to 4, finally.
It got a light boost in stats and three free points, which Theo decided to allot later.
"Now that the mantis is level 4… maybe I should go for some different territory?" Theo stated and looked at Clara, who herself was in thought.
"Hmmm, it makes sense, young master. I think the mantis is able enough to start defeating other types of monsters for battle experience, but no matter where you go, finding creatures above level 5 is tough in this level of the forest."
Theo nodded in understanding and took a sip from the leather pouch, "So, if I go to the silverback direwolf territory, there is little chance to find level 5 ones, right?"
"That territory is different, young master. But you get the general point. The direwolves are a pack animal, and their leader has to be strong so they are usually level 5. They usually stick together in a group of 6–7. It could be an even bigger one, but that is only possible in the mid-level forest, as the pack leader has to be very strong to handle so many wolves in its pack." Clara explained, she knew more about the wolves than the average seeing that she had pup of her own.
"Makes sense.... Huh, everything points toward the idea of us finally going to the mid-level forest, Clara. The only thing I need to do is reach level 5 and break through for that. Or… is there another way for me to go there right now?" Theo asked with a playful face.
Clara's eyebrows furrowed for a second before they reverted back to normal.
"There is no other way, young master. The mid-level forest is a place where everything is above level 5. It is rare to find lower-level ones there. The only ones we can find are small cubs of the beasts. From the lower forest, it is mostly the boars, apes, and wolves that reach such a level and decide to go deeper in the forest to become stronger. The vipers and moss slimes just stay back in whatever case. But the beings that are born there and survive are the ones we have to truly look out for. They are not ones to fight without intense preparations, young master."
Theo listened to everything with focus. The mid-level forest was a place that Lucien described as a 'treasure trove'. Not only did the monsters give unbelievable amounts of experience, but their bodies were valuable for the economy and overall humans.
"Then I guess I am stuck here for a while." Theo was bored, looking at the vipers just come and get their heads chopped off like nothing. There was no fun left in just that, even though it was at least helping in getting some experience points.
He looked into the vast forest in front that he had not dared delve into till now.
Theo looked at his armor for a second. Since he had started coming into the viper territory, the number of hard leather pieces on his armor had increased for protection.
All his vitals were covered properly with thick leather, including his head and neck too. The only thing exposed was the face.
"Say, Clara… how about we start going deeper in the forest?" Theo asked with an excited voice.
When Clara saw his eyes that were sparkling as if he had some kind of hope, she could only sigh.
"It's too dangerous for you, young master."
"Hm? How so? I have you and these cute beasts always around me, right?"
Theo moved to the boar and scratched near the neck, and the pup came with its tail wagging the next second.
Clara saw both the beasts enjoying the scratches and giggled. It was fun looking at the boar trying to show that it felt nothing, yet its small tail went left and right at the same time.
"Sigh… I guess, if you really want to, let's start going deeper, young master," Clara said, and Theo looked at her with a grin.
"But don't get too excited. It will be the same level vipers, nothing more than increased danger."
"That is enough for me, Clara. I need some change. We will get serious with the missions from tomorrow. So, let me start."
Theo's grin became wilder, and he stepped forward. The mantis got his mental command the next second, and his body twitched as if it had been raring to go for a long time.
It left the carcasses of the vipers behind and brisked toward the forest's start.

'Cut every piece of grass in the front, mantis,' Theo gave the main command, and the mantis's speed increased.
Clara saw the two of them with a smile. It seemed they were really doing it—going inside the forest. It was a milestone that many took time to overcome.
When the mantis was near the tall grass, it quickly became a blur.
The next second, Theo saw mostly all the blades of grass on the ground with the mantis at the other end, munching on a strand while waiting for the cooldown to vanish.
It seemed it was time to have fun again.
