"You are the backup!" Count Sayzer laughed.

"...."

Cassius had no words to properly describe what he was feeling.

"Hum?" The Dissonant’s brows raised after realizing that he couldn’t retract his spear. "Such strength. How interesting."

Nonchalantly letting go of the spear, he looked Cassius up and down. "Oh, I know who you are."

"I know who he is, too!" Azara shouted from off to the side. "He’s the target!"

The Dissonant glanced at the succubus. "It appears that we have something in common, lesser being."

Azara growled in the Dissonant’s direction. "He’s my target!" she hissed. "You piss right the hell off!!"

Flora, who was lurking in the background, quietly cheered Azara on. ’That’s right, big sis Aza! Tell ’em what’s what! Capture Cass for me, so I can drain him dry!’

The Dissonant no longer paid any attention to the feisty Azara. Staring into the depths of Cassius’s soul, he furrowed his brows. "The vanguard failed—that much is clear. You’ve also become too powerful for Earth-related plans to work. However, what I don’t understand is where Selena is. She’s not like the rest of the rubbish we sent down."

’Selena?’ Cassius wondered.

Darting his eyes all around space, the Dissonant eventually stopped on what seemed to be a random location. A brow arched as a small smirk formed. "So that’s where you are, Selena. But why are you in hiding? Are you afraid to face the human or something?"

SWHICK!

Leaving her hiding spot in the folds of space, Selena, in all her classic beauty, appeared before the group. She looked between those gathered, pausing longer on the Dissonant that had called her out. Then she saw Cassius.

"Hello again, Cassius Steele," she said with a slight smile. "It’s been a while, what with you always disappearing. You’ve given us quite some trouble, you know?"

Cassius frowned in confusion. "Do I know you, lady?"

Selena’s smile curved into a grin as she placed a hand over her mouth. She then disappeared, appearing right next to Cassius an instant later.

"No, no, you don’t," she said playfully. "But you will soon enough. That much I guarantee you."

Watching Selena lick her lips, Cassius shivered. "You’re an alien, aren’t you? Does that mean you plan to probe me or something?? Put me on a test table—is that what you’re going to do??"

Selena mysteriously smiled.

Cassius didn’t like the face she was making…

"Selena, don’t play with the target too much," said the Dissonant from earlier. "You know how tight our schedule is. And if we don’t want to anger the higher-ups, then we should move with haste."

Selena blew hot air. With a puffed-out cheek, she replied, "Fine, but I get him first after we’re done here, Cremel."

Cremel helplessly shook his head. "Anything for you, Selena… Haiz…"

Selena playfully stuck her tongue out, then turned toward Cassius with a predatory smirk. "Me and you are gonna have some real fun later~"

Cassius’s expression froze. "No… No, thank you?"

"Hihi~"

’This b*tch!’ Bella, Flora, and Yimin cursed, their anger soaring.

"Young Cassius," Count Sayzer whispered. "You can take them, can’t you? Because the Duke is caught up in a territorial dispute with a different Duke and thus won’t be making it in time…"

Cassius’s face spasmed as he couldn’t believe the shamelessness of this middle-aged vampire.

FWIP! FWIP! FWIP!

Adding to his troubles was the sudden appearance of hundreds more Transcendent-rank Dissonants. They came from the spaceship fleet, with their objectives seemingly one and the same.

"Hold up a second," Cassius raised a hand. "You know that my mother won’t come no matter what, don’t you? So you believing you can use me as bait or whatever is pointless."

Cremel released a hearty peal of laughter. "We’ve just recently figured out that very thing, but what we also came to understand was that your uses don’t merely extend to your face-value relationship with your mother."

"Wait…" Count Sayzer’s eyes widened in realization. "Your mother… Is she really…!?"

"Yes," Cassius nodded. "She’s a Princess of Yggdrasil. Or one from a previous generation."

’Yggdrasil!?’

The expressions of many drastically changed at the mention of that word.

"Then you have to run, Young Cass!" Count Sayzer suddenly shouted. "Forget everything I said, for they can use your blood as a—"

"You don’t need to say anymore."

OOOM!

A voice belonging to an existence shrouded in Abyssal energies reverberated out. The owner of the voice then made his presence known as he emitted a level of energy that went beyond even the Crestmore Duke’s power level.

"Fleet General!" Both Cremel and Selena hit the space ground with a thud, their tones oozing reverence.

"Mhm," the Dissonant Fleet General gave a slight nod before turning his attention to Count Sayzer. "You’re a child of the night; it’s odd to see one of you here after what happened to your ancestors in the Greater Expanse. And to think that just a single one of you could’ve instilled fear in all of us in the past. Time really does change everything."

A Child of the Night!?

Why did that name sound so familiar!?

Despite the Count’s troubled thoughts, the Dissonant Fleet General continued to speak:

"Well, that’s no more than an idle piece of information," he shifted his icy gaze to Cassius. "What is of most relevance right now is you, destined son of the Ascension Tower."

"!!!"

Without even so much as a warning, the Dissonant Fleet General flashed forward, grabbing hold of Cassius’s shoulder.

"You’ll be coming with us," he ordered non-negotiably. "You have a higher purpose with the Dissonants. One that will ascend this destitute place to greater heights."

Complete immobilization!

’I can’t move!’ Cassius felt himself become powerless; in the face of the monster before him, he was rendered no more than an infant. ’Damn!’

No matter how many transformations he activated or how many power sources he called on, nothing made a difference. It was as if he were adding on additional layers of clothing to prevent the invasion of frigid winds reaching hundreds of degrees into the negative. In other words—
