Chapter 93: The Cruelty Of Strength

Arc 2, Chapter 93 — The Cruelty Of Strength.

.

.

And so it began... The competitions that had gnawed at the insides of many Bloodren 10s.

The arena was a coliseum of shadows. The air hung heavy in a cocktail of sweat and a fang metallic tang of anticipation.

For the Bloodren 10s, this was no mere competition, but a survival basic for ascension.

And yet... the stands were barren.

They thought it would start out with a big bang. But for the first few days, except for the Bloodren 10s, not many people showed up to watch any matches.

This was insulting.

It all felt like a colossal insult that burned like Holy Water on a demon’s skin.

Perhaps it was this anger... that made many fight with more emotions than before. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

The rows of empty seats seemed to be moving their efforts the longer they stayed in the arena.

Dammit, so angry!

With every blow they landed on their opponents, they swore they’ll make the entire world remember who they are.

"Strong... strong..." Their blood boiled vigorously, as they murmured the same word over and over again.

No matter what it takes, they must become STRONG.

Of course, those who felt this way, were those competing on the earlier days. Barely no one showed up to see the WEAK.

Have you forgotten what Phix said? The weakest START the matches, and the strongest CLOSE the matches.

Day 1 flew by just like that, day 2... 3... and 4.

Day 1~3 were as empty as a desert filled with sand and nothing more.

Many felt that even a pair of crickets hopping, might be able to get more audience than the current fighters in the arena.

That’s how bad it was.

What was even more hilarious was that after day 1, the number of people who came went up before dropping again even more.

On Day 2, only 5 people showed up.

On Day 3, the number went down to 1 .

How embarrassing was that? Fighters competing on these days were so pissed their nearly fainted mid-battle.

It was only on Day 4 that things began picking up.

On the morning of day 4, a total of 67 people showed up.

Wow!

Impressive! All that by Morning? Fighters who fought on days 1~3 were envious, but they didn’t even know that this was just the beginning.

By Midday, the number grew to 700, causing them to vibrate on their seats.

IT WAS JUST TOO UNFAIR!

Still... 700 was just a drop of water compared to the number of people that showed up on Day 5.

Over 130,000 people flooded the dome-shaped colosseum by Morning.

Why? Because today the top 20 Bloodren Matches will take place.

Facts proved that to the masses, only these top 20 battles are worth their attention.

.

.

"They look down on us!"

Several Bloodren 10s who fought in the previous days, clenched their fists murderously when seeing the gigantic crowd.

"Hmph!" one of them spat venomously. Well, he was jealous, but he would never admit it. "So what if many have gathered today?... As they say: 99 days for the thief, one day for the owner. I don’t believe it will be long before I show them how wrong they are!"

"Yeah!" Another slammed his hand onto his thigh, nearly cracking his bone with eyes glowing faintly. "We’ll make them remember, no matter the cost!"

Sour grapes.

Several people were sour, taking their seats among the onlookers.

Bloodren 10s who weren’t fighting today, could sit among the masses and watch.

The space was so jam-packed, you would think all the air in this place would be sucked out by the many nostrils here.

This is how it always is, during all Bloodren competitions involving the top 20.

Be it Bloodren 10 competitions, Bloodren 9, Bloodren 8... 7, 6... everyone shows up to witness the growth of ’geniuses’ and top talents.

Who knows... perhaps these geniuses will surpass them and might one day become their captains, Lieutenants, and other heads.

So it was only fair to remember them, no?

Again, another major reason many people came out was because of the rumors circulating about.

This year’s top Bloodren 10s have the highest audience number recorded in a long time.

Typically, only about 60,000 people show up to watch the top 20 matches.

But what’s this? There were no less than 120,000 people here.

In the crowd, several people sat in a relaxed and patient manner.

"I’m looking forward to seeing what makes these people so special, that a renowned Coterie would be sent over to teach them."

They were talking about Winhest.

It has never been done!

Since the history of this place, no Coterie or person of higher abilities has been sent to teach a group of weaklings before.

One can see just how curious everyone was about those fighting in top 20 matches.

"I heard several of them awakened from piles 22, 23 and 24."

"What? So many in one batch? I recall in my batch, the highest only awakened a Shard from pile 22."

"Same here. Someone awakened one from pile 23, but it was just one person. Everyone else fell below shard 20."

"This is what fascinates me the most about this new group. There are too many of them with shard abilities above 20... when have we gathered so many in one group before? I even heard there’s a dual shard user among them too!"

The more many spoke, the more excited they became.

Don’t think it’s easy to awaken shards from higher piles.

Those shards had egos of their own, and wouldn’t awaken for just anyone.

There must be something about these people that made those shards accept them.

The talks from the crowd continued, as more and more people still blooded in, despite there being over 130,000 people in the space now.

Many estimated it might shoot to 150,000 soon.

Tsk.

The Bloodren 9s were a little envious of it all.

"The show better be fucking good, or it’ll be a bloody waste of everyone’s time."

Why wasn’t it them who was allowed to amass such fame?

Even the top Bloodren 9 fighters felt their faces scrunch up a bit, recalling the audience watching their own Bloodren battles not too long ago.

Then, they were satisfied with the turn up. But now, they felt uncomfortable.

’What makes these little rodents so special?’

.

.

BAM!

The first set of matches for the day commenced with a brutal clash—2 figures locked in combat that blurred the lines between man and monster.

Everyone had to admit that these newbies were quite fierce.

The 20 matches started, followed by the 19th, 18th, 17th and 15th.

As the matches progressed, the fighters who appeared on stage were also stronger than the previous set, worth the watch.

Several people stopped leaning into their seats and scratched their necks, surprise very evident on their faces.

"Holy Crap! Are you sure these are still Bloodren 10s who just arrived not too long ago?" A peculiar Bloodren 9 questioned.

This was insane! How could they be this strong this soon? No... No.... No.... It can’t be this fast, right?

Seated beside the Bloodren 9 who exclaimed, was Delweather—the famous Farm boy who could often be seen with a single strand of hay in his mouth. Where does he get the hay from? Well, people say his locker is full of them.

Seated below Delweather and his buddies, was the powerful Cerine and her friends.

They all looked like they had seen ghosts when watching these top matches.

"Unless I’m blind, I have to admit that these Bloodren 10s are too fierce compared to us when we just arrived."

"Yeah... The ones who fought in the 20th battle, are as strong as those who fought in the 9th Battle in our time. How insane is that?"

"Exactly... If those battling in the 20th, 19th, and even 17th matches are this good, then imagine the fighters within the top 12 or even top 10 battles?"

The group’s eyes glistened thoughtfully when looking at the progressive battles below. Although shocked and in disbelief, there was a ruthless light of excitement that flickered through their pupils.

In a flash, several of Victorio and Hendrix’s men fought against others from the last Bloodren 10 batches. It was epic.

However, it was shocking that these matches ended in victories or draws, with a majority of these newbies all winning.

As of now, only 1 Bloodren 10 in the top position, had lost to an old Bloodren 10.

How can this be?

This was more unbelievable than saying the moon was owned by a cow. So after all that arrogance and willpower to defeat these newbies, the Old Bloodren 10s still failed to FULLY win against Hendrix and Victorio’s men?

Some of these old 10s have been here for 2 and even 3 years. And yet, they still couldn’t get a complete Fatality Win?

Some of these battles ended in a tie, meaning both sides won. Still, it was seen as a disgrace for an old 10 who has been here for at least a year, to tie up with a newbie who had only been here for a few months.

Underneath his straw hat, Delweather’s narrowed gaze darkened.

He was looking towards Victorio’s men.

"I can’t put my finger on it yet, but... they smell different."

... His nose won’t lie.
