Chapter 167: Departure

Arc 3, Chapter 167 — Departure

.

.

Many-a-time, there was always a calm before a storm.

In another location, the sounds of flowing water resounded in the indoor gardens well taken care of by a certain somebody.

Beautiful flowers of all sorts bloomed, streams of waters flowed in various formations, and fruits grew swollen fat with juice within this breathtaking Garden it’s owner called Eden.

In Eden, an overly long and bushy-haired figure could be seen slowly watering his beloved plants. And beside him was a skinny being with glasses and eyes that looked non-existent.

"Funny, isn’t it? How the human existence is often nothing but a whisper in the wind..." Roud watered his flesh eating plant that was rubbing against his finger like a well trained dog. "Phase 2 begins in a few days for him, right?"

"It appears so, Head." The ever smiling LaCroft answered. His smile was eerie and layered with so much meaning that it often left a majority of people unsettled and confused without knowing why.

"Head, it seems the masses are unsettled about the privileges the new Bloodren 10s are getting." LaCroft chuckled ominously. "Some say that compared to these Bloodren 10s, they’ve trained for years and deserve such accolades."

"Trained huh?" Roud mused. "Then it’s truly a tragedy... a dark tragedy that their years of training amount to nothing."

What a shame.

Roud ceased feeding his ferocious plants, slowly taking to his feet and heading out with LaCroft beside him. He said nothing, while listening to LaCroft’s retellings.

LaCroft continued: "In conclusion, they say we will regret Underestimating them."

It would be a lie to say that Roud knew nothing of the favoritism in place, since he was part of those who pushed the matter forward.

"Regret?" The corner’s of Roud’s lips raised high with superiority. "How foolish. Regret is an emotion reserved for those beneath me."

Soon, their conversation trailed on to other important matters. Roud paused again in his tracks. It was clear that a certain part of LaCroft’s reporting had struck a nerve in him.

It was a matter concerning his Department... In particular, he was referring to the complaints gotten about the errors Intelligence made during this period.

Roud massaged his chin thoughtfully. "Although that Red-haired Gorilla irks me, he’s right to bring it up. In the end, it seems we’ll have to make a lot of changes in order to correct this matter."

"Indeed, Head." LaCroft added, still following beside Roud unhurriedly.

They looked unphased and calm, yet their auras told a different story.

It was clear that whatever changes Roud planned to implement, was not going to be one many could take standing.

Time came and went, but the many who were huddled within the Order’s confines, knew nothing about the turbulence in the outside world.

Well, it was another dull morning when Levon rose. And the fact that today marked the start of the Phase 2 competitions, made the day even more gloomier than it already was.

"So it begins..." Leo muttered, while peeking out their bedroom window.

It was odd that given the position of their bedrooms, the only things their windows should be able to see, is each other’s bedrooms or the balcony and grand open space of the Entry hall.

But somehow, all the windows were able to get glimpses of the front yards, as though their windows were just above the garden flowers or something.

It was too weird and unscientific, but after staying in this place for so long, no one felt amazed anymore. When standing by the bedroom windows, one could get the faint waft of body odor from the peculiar plants outdoors.

Phase 2, huh?...

"Buddy, you think they’d go easy on us?"

"Not a chance!"

Leo and Shugo shrugged, admiring the outdoor plains with unfathomable thoughts.

Phase 2 involved Group evaluations—that they knew.

But what to expect? What sort of calamity awaited them? Their minds raced when going through a thousand scenarios.

Today being a special day, everyone rose earlier than they usually, heading for the baths to freshen up. On days like these, long calm and soothing baths could do wonders for one.

Hiss~

Some buffoons in the bathing pools distance hissed with regret as they got in.

"Dammit, it’s all your fault! Why the hell did I listen to you and train under the showers of those poisonous darts?"

"Yeah! It takes 3 days for the poison to completely wear off. And now because of you, I’ll have to take the Phase 2 examinations with a sore and heavy body."

"Hmph! You ingrates! How is this my fault? Did I force you guys to train with me? Did I hold your hands and sing Kumbaya with you when you joined me?"

"Tch. You weaklings are really too much! Did the Boss force any of you into this? Don’t you know that the gain from the training outways the current pain you feel?"

Everyone had their own way of looking at things. Do you know that because of how late they were in joining the party, many only knew of the benefits of Pool Training very late in the game?

By the time they realized how amazing Clara’s gift was, they were already far behind others in terms of gains.

What’s more, they also realized that the Pool itself won’t activate if more than a certain number of people get into it.

It seems that this number correlated with their weights too. All they knew was that on days when BIG BOYS like Payne Ignier got into the pools, lesser people were required to activate the pools, even if they unleashed their shards.

—It was all too terrible.

These days, they’ve been fighting for spots just to train and enhance their Origin Breathing.

What? Do you think it’s easy to find a spot?

Many times, those who go in the Pool for training, will stay in there for hours before coming out.

To make matters worse, people like Hendrix and a few special ones, had actively colonized the pools, making it harder for small fries like them to find an opening.

Truthfully, it’s not that they colonized the place, but that they had better luck, coming to the pools in times when there were a few spots available.

Thus, some people didn’t get the privilege of training in the pools... until 3 days ago.

Three days ago, many of those considered special, stopped going to the pools altogether. It was freaky how telepathically in tune these people were with each other.

After Winhest’s lecture, Levon and the others stopped training in the pools, not wanting to get poisoned by the hidden attacks from the pools. Don’t forget that in Winhest’s class, they were also poisoned, and that poison would take 3 days exactly to fade off. So why would they risk it again by entering the pools?

In their minds, they wanted to be at their strongest when partaking in the Phase 2 competitions.

~Heh-heh-heh-heh.

Several people smirked arrogantly, feeling that they were too smart in following behind these special ones. The moment they noticed that none of them were entering the pools, a few others also chose to follow the lead of these people. And sure enough it proved right.

It’s always better to take an examination at full fighting force.

One must also know that during this time after the benefits of Clara’s gift became obvious, 3 others were caught ’awake’ during Lights out. This led to Clara’s emergence, forcefully dragging them out the mansion eliminating their chances of joining the Phase 2 competitions for this year.

Brutal, right?

Hiss~

Several others squirmed in agony when washing themselves in the pools. And just like that, another hour and a half went by. Levon had already dressed up, and was now seated in the entry hall, munching on a few muffins.

Are you insane? Going to the Cafeteria hall for breakfast was not an option. If they do so, they will definitely miss their chance to leave for the competitions.

...

Tick-tock. Tick-tock.

Soon, there were only 2 minutes left before departure.

Everyone was already gathered outside the Estate’s gates. And looking up into the sky, they finally spotted a familiar figure on a paper plane.

He’s Here!—Winhest was here!

’How peculiar...’ Levon’s eyes flickered thoughtfully.

For the Phase 1 competitions, Phix was the one escorting them to and fro on his flying boat... But for Phase 2, it’s now Winhest doing the escorting?

Many also took note of this in their hearts. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"Well now, are you waiting for some big boring speech from me?" Winhest began with his dramatics, levitating the gigantic paper ship high above them.

"How silly. I leave in 30 seconds. If you’re not up here... then heh."

As Winhest spoke, he slowly turned the gigantic plan around to the position he came from.

Without even knowing it, his words had caused the feet of many to move on their own, before their brains could process thought.

But what to expect next? What sort of Competitions lay in stall for them during the Phase 2 competitions?
