"This is the scenery you chose?" Lillian scratched the back of her head as she glanced around.

It was an almost barren mountaintop. Cracked stone ground, dry bushes with barely any leaves, unstable spots that may seem to collapse at any time. It was also quite cold.

Lillian shivered a bit, noticing how high up they were. Fortunately, it was not high enough to the point where it was hard to breathe.

She looked towards Marionette, who had her back facing her. She was looking over the edges, assumably checking the condition of what may be their arena.

The Assassin turned back to face her and said:

"Yes. This will suffice well."

"Eh..." Lillian gave a hesitant look, "Must it be in such a... Unstable spot?"

Marionette raised an eyebrow, "Not everywhere you fight will be in your favour." She shrugged, "Remember your fight with that horned monster back in the Catacomb."

Lillian groaned, "I suppose..." Saying that she stretched her hand out to the side, manifesting a fluid long sword of water.

After a few short wobbles, it straightened, sharpening itself into a worthy blade.

Marionette stared at Lillian, who pointed her weapon at her, before stating:

"You are allowed to use the odachi, Lillian."

"Hm? I... am?" The Rabbit tilted her head, immediately dissipating the liquid longsword.

She summoned the Black Maw into her hands, familiarising herself with the gritty, black leather hilt before unsheathing it. She gave it a few short swings to warm up.

Marionette watched as she did this before nodding to her question.

"Yes. It will only be fair."

Lillian froze before slowly turning to the Assassin with a deadpan look. Her eyes met the face of the stoic woman, who smiled softly at her.

"Right... I'm already self-aware, Mari. No need to rub salt in the wound."

Marionette let out a soft chuckle.

"I suppose." She then went silent, her smile turning into a smirk, "Are you also aware of the fact I like you~?"

"..."

Lillian turned her face to the side at her words with a slightly reddish face, "Dunno." She turned her face back around, "Do you—?"

However, once she turned her head around to face the Assassin, she found the woman, who was several metres away from her, was now suddenly in front of her.

Swish...!

"Eh?"

Lillian watched as the world turned and flipped — a feeling of disconnection passing through her mind as well.

Thud...

Marionette stared down nonchalantly at Lillian's beheaded body. The area where her head and neck were disconnected was covered in blue digital particles.

These particles spread across the Rabbit's body and stretched towards Lillian's head, which had rolled off to the side.

As this happened, Marionette's ears twitched at the sound of a familiar voice off to the side.

"That just wasn't fair!"

She turned around, finding Lillian's body being constructed from top to bottom. She didn't look too happy with Marionette's sneak attack as her face twitched in irritation.

The Assassin just shrugged stoically, holding an obsidian dagger in her hand.

"It was going to happen sooner or later. You can't be complacent. Even around me, Lillian."

Lillian watched as the woman bent down to the black odachi at her feet.

Marionette gripped the hilt of the sword, narrowing her eyes at the weight. However, after a moment, the weight she felt had nearly been cut down in half.

"... What a troublesome enchantment." She outwardly thought, holding it up with one arm.

After giving the sword a careful look, she chucked it over to Lillian, who hurriedly stepped out of the way.

CLANG—! THUD!

The sword landed heavily and clattered against the uneven stone ground. Fortunately, for its enchantment, it was perfectly fine.

"It's quite heavy," Marionette commented, watching as Lillian bent down and got it.

"Even for you? Did the enchantment not work or something?" Lillian asked, staring at her cautiously and also confusedly at the sword, gripping the hilt.

Marionette shook her head, "The enchantment did work. But before it changed, the weight must've still been set for you."

She then paused before adding:

"And I am... Still human, Lillian." Before tilting her head to the side—

SWOOSH!

— Dodging a bullet of water aimed at her head.

Lillian's face twitched at her nonchalant dodge.

"Sometimes, I think you aren't..."

Marionette just shrugged.

"Who knows... I could be a human, homunculus, monster. Or all three." She muttered with a cool voice, then smiled.

"But I am without a doubt... yours, though, Lilly..." She winked.

Lillian's face reddened again but didn't turn her face away like last time. Marionette saw this and shifted her expression back to a stoic one.

"Oh. You learn fast."

"Ah! So that's what you were doing—!" Lillian growled, then startled at the fact Marionette had appeared before her again.

The Assassin, having just closed the gap between them with a single dash, slashed up with her dagger.

Swish...!

Lillian stumbled back, escaping from the attack with just a long diagonal cut across her chest. Her mind raced with plans of counterattacks. The only conclusions she came to were...

Marionette drew back her arm, delivering a stab with the obsidian dagger.

KRRR...!

The Assassin raised an eyebrow, staring at a fluttering dark wall of narrow, metallic spikes.

Her blade scraped along the spikes, cutting into it but ultimately unable to pierce through.

Lillian braced the blow, hiding behind the protective cloak. She knew she had no chance of counterattacking in this range, especially with her odachi.

Marionette drew back her arm again, moving her free hand towards the spiked cloak.

Before she could get a hold and pull it aside, droplets of water manifested in the air behind Lillian. They stretched and sharpened like arrows.

With a huff from Lillian, they rained down on the Assassin, who calmly hopped back.

It tore up the ground like a harsh hail, creating a small cloud of dust — only reaching up to their knee and hips.

Marionette gave a hum at the holes punctured through the ground before looking back up. She stared at Lillian's face, which popped out from the side.

The Rabbit gave a sigh, seeing the woman was completely unharmed from her attack.

She wrapped the cloak around her shoulder, bringing back in its spikes that shimmered and disappeared. She then summoned back her odachi, which she put away to block the Assassin's attack.

Lillian stared at Marionette, who smiled at her, impressed.

She then heard her say...
