Chapter 1306: Chapter 1306 Ghostly Night

"Damn it!" You suddenly looked up and shouted, "Who the hell has the nerve to throw something at me!"

As you raised your head, you were greeted by an adorable little face. This was a face brimming with childlike innocence and sunshine, with a pair of bright, clear eyes resembling a serene pond. Beneath the pond shimmered two rosy blushes, and the corners of her small mouth lifted slightly, radiating a playful sense of childish delight.

Xiao Meiyu—it’s definitely a mini version of Xiao Meiyu!

"Brother Mu Yun, what are you doing?" The little girl, sporting two charming pigtails, blinked her bright eyes inquisitively.

"Mei Ye, what are you doing here?" You glanced at Yun, the two of you exchanging a silent conversation through your looks.

"Hey, what’s up with you two?" Mei Ye appeared between the two of you, cutting off your exchange.

"Ugh, what are you doing here, kid? This place is dangerous; hurry back." You clearly didn’t want Mei Ye interrupting your interaction with Yun.

"No way, no way! I worked so hard to sneak out!" Mei Ye suddenly dove into Yun’s arms, "Elder sister is so pretty! No wonder Brother Mu Yun wanted to kiss you just now."

"You..." You were instantly overwhelmed with defeat. Yun also blushed furiously due to Mei Ye’s teasing, but she was even more intrigued by Mei Ye’s mysterious origins. After all, her ability to materialize out of thin air wasn’t something ordinary people possessed.

"Ooh, Brother Mu Yun is blushing—how cute!"

Completely beaten, you slumped dejectedly to your feet and then leapt up into a tree, gazing off into the distance.

"Elder sister, are you Brother Mu Yun’s girlfriend?" Mei Ye asked innocently, "If so, then we’ll be rivals in the future!"

"Thud!" A loud crash could be heard courtesy of one severely falling male.

You simply lay lifelessly on the ground, unmoving, and Mei Ye skipped over to you: "Brother Mu Yun, are you fainted? Let me give you mouth-to-mouth!"

Seeing Mei Ye’s little lips about to press down, you stomp your foot and shot forward like an arrow.

"Brother Mu Yun, you’ve hurt my fragile little heart!" Mei Ye pouted in mock tears.

Truth be told, though you’re well aware she’s your wife and the mother of your child, her current appearance as a five- or six-year-old didn’t exactly inspire much confidence. You definitely wouldn’t want anyone accusing you of improper behavior toward a child.

Exhausted, you sat up, facing Mei Ye helplessly: "Hey, where does a little girl like you pick up all this nonsense?"

"My mom taught me!" Mei Ye immediately replied with a grin.

"Then go back and learn some more—come back in fifteen years."

"No way, no way!" Mei Ye purred, teleporting into your embrace, her small face snuggling against you, "Brother Mu Yun is the best!"

Meanwhile, Yun watched with a soft smile, her heart unruffled. She only thought Mei Ye was a terribly cute little girl.

With Mei Ye’s antics, whatever romantic atmosphere you had struggled to build was now utterly ruined. Helplessly, you picked her up and brought her to Yun. "This is your elder sister Yun. Call her Elder Sister."

"Hello, Elder Sister Yun!" Mei Ye sweetly greeted her.

"She’s... my pet." You said helplessly, "I don’t even know where to begin—ugh, it’s a long story."

"Brother Mu Yun, Dad asked me to deliver a message to you." Mei Ye nuzzled against you as she spoke, "Dad wants you to retrieve the Ghostly Night."

"The Ghostly Night? What’s that?" You asked curiously.

"I don’t know! Seems like it’s inside some kind of altar. Lots of people are looking for it. Dad mentioned something about Louwai Building and the Iron Gale Cavalry...and...a bunch of other stuff!" Mei Ye seemed to particularly enjoy sitting in your lap, her innocence fully reflected in her gaze toward Yun. "Elder Sister Yun, have you known Brother Mu Yun for a long time?"

Yun chuckled, replying, "You could say that."

Mei Ye pouted, looking a little disappointed. "I thought you’d just met."

"You little rascal—what kind of nonsense is rattling around in that head of yours?" You chided her playfully.

"I’m being serious! I drank Brother Mu Yun’s blood. From now on, I’m sticking with him forever!"

"Wait...you—" You froze briefly, then quickly cupped Mei Ye’s face. "You’re the one... the one who was sealed at the gate?"

"Yep." Mei Ye nodded with a grin, "Brother Mu Yun, now you know who I am! My dad is the Ghost King, and my mom is the Witch Queen."

"Figures." You sighed deeply, "No wonder the Ghost King let me off so easily—it turns out he sees me as your snack."

"Brother Mu Yun!" Mei Ye pouted, her lips puffed up angrily, "I’m not talking to you anymore!"

She wriggled free and burrowed into Yun’s arms, her youthful smile returning with ease: "Elder Sister Yun is the best!"

Yun found herself taking an immediate liking to the young girl. Not only was Mei Ye’s lively character amusing, but her adorable flushed cheeks made her irresistibly cute.

You exhaled another deep breath, choosing to lie back silently, pondering Mei Ye’s earlier words as your mind started strategizing about cracking the mythical Demon Eight Formation.

Just then, a booming noise erupted in the distance, and thick smoke rose into the sky.

"They’ve started fighting over there," Mei Ye remarked with a giggle.

"Mei Ye..."

"Bad Brother! Don’t call me by my full name—call me Little Ye like Elder Sister does!"

"Fine, fine. Little Ye, okay?" By now, you were feeling the throbbing in your temples. Honestly, when it comes to ’the mother of your child,’ you’re powerless every time.

"That’s more like it!"

Biting back frustration, you asked firmly, "Do you know what exactly your father meant by the Ghostly Night?"

"No idea! Dad said you’ll figure it out just by watching those people."

You nodded, tossing a quick instruction to Yun, "Take care of Little Ye while I go check things out," before darting quickly into the depths of the forest.

Hidden within the bushes near the rising smoke, you peered through the gaps in the foliage. Two forces were squared off against each other—one side being Ximen Shenggu’s Iron Gale Cavalry, while the other side was an unfamiliar faction.

"Ximen Shenggu! Don’t think just because your old man is the highest-ranking official I’ll be scared of you. If you’ve got guts, come at me!" Shouted a medium-built man with average looks, whose most striking feature was the massive red samurai sword strapped to his back.

"Koizumi Tadashi, you think you can take on my elder brother? Have you even measured your own height?" Ximen Qingshu sneered, "You realize, don’t you, that racial superiority often shows up in physical stature?"

"You’re asking for it!" Koizumi Tadashi appeared agitated by Ximen Qingshu’s taunt. Just as his fingers gripped the sword hilt, his body froze momentarily before he barked, "There’s killing intent—stay alert, everyone!"

"Heh...so this is what creatures from the human world are like?"
