High School of Demon Hunting-Chapter 1475 - 219 Preparation
Chapter 1475: Chapter 219 Preparation
After dispatching Furry Bean to find the other three members of the Hunting team, Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu stayed within the temporarily constructed Protect Legal Formation. They quietly discussed the battle plans for after the team’s assembly, while testing the consistency of different Spells, Talismans, and Magic Potions in Dreamland compared to the real World.
This is an essential operation for a Hunting team after entering an unfamiliar Hunting Ground.
After a series of tests, it was confirmed that in Dreamland, the Magic Effects involving illusions and the mind were significantly amplified, such as the Chaos Spell, Sleeping Spell, etc.; the effects of daily and auxiliary Spells had almost no significant changes, like spells for laundry, cooking, cleaning, waking up; whereas Spells like Thunder Curse, Monitoring Type Spells, Direction Indicating Spells, and Communication Spells were all greatly weakened.
Jiang Yu guessed that this might be related to the incomplete Laws of Dreamland, the weak origin and bearing capacity of the World, and the significant influence of the dream realm coupled with a lack of logical cause and effect.
For instance, in dreams, it’s common to be running wildly in a field one second and battling storms in the ocean the next, with the whole process seamlessly connected, and Wizards within it hardly feel any anomaly. However, Spells can’t fake such scenarios; facing such scene changes, it is understandable that Spells for monitoring, directing, and communication would fail.
Zheng Qing also conducted a simple test of the Thunder Curse.
A ’Yin Qi Lei’ which could easily summon a flash of lightning thick as a bowl’s mouth to strike dead a Minotaur outside in the real World, but in Dreamland, Zheng Qing, exerting all his Magic Power and straining every sinew, could only produce a sliver of lightning as thin as a chopstick.
And this streak of lightning was even green in color.
The young grant student was very dubious whether that lightning could kill a rabbit.
Thinking of those big-toothed, long-eared creatures, Zheng Qing involuntarily glanced outside the Protect Legal Formation, through the dense woods. During the discussion with Jiang Yu, he had more than once caught a glimpse of sneaky shadows in the woods from the corner of his eye.
They were brown creatures with slick fur, diminutive stature, and contours extremely similar to certain rodent species.
Zheng Qing believed that if they wore waistcoats and infiltrated First University, they could surely confuse most students—he suspected these brown little creatures were a branch of the Mouse Clan from Underground World of First University, established in Dreamland.
However, unlike the mice in suit vests at the school, the rodent creatures emerging from the oak woods seemed unable to talk, but communicated by a method of patting their chests.
This was also the source of the incessant slapping noises amidst the sound of wind and rain that Zheng Qing heard.
Jiang Yu noticed the Warlock’s glance.
"Don’t mind those little things, if they had the courage they would have charged out of the woods long ago... Do you still have clean glass slides in your bag? I need to test the effects of this bottle of Lourdes Holy Water."
As she spoke, she raised her hand, sweeping the strands of hair that had fallen over her face back behind her ears. In the Dreamland World, the delicate rays of light streamed through the Formation, casting a glow upon the Witch’s cheeks and hair, making her appear luminous.
Zheng Qing stared blankly for several seconds.
Not until the Witch shook the bottle of Lourdes Holy Water in front of him did he snap back to reality.
Perhaps it was the sunlight, but the Witch’s cheeks seemed slightly flushed, yet her voice remained calm as ever: "...The detox effect of Poshan Stone and the healing effect of Bai Xian have been confirmed to be within acceptable deviation and are suitable for continued use; the hallucinogenic side effect of the Truth Serum has become stronger, and its use might lead to addiction, thereby it is advisable to use it with caution."
"I don’t have any more frogs to experiment with." Zheng Qing, while taking out a stack of new glass slides from the Grey Cloth Bag and handing them to the Witch, sighed: "We can only make theoretical conjectures about other Magic Potions... or use those?"
He glanced once more at those sneaky brown Mice peeking out from the forest.
A flurry of panicked slapping noises came from the woods.
Most of the peering gazes suddenly disappeared.
The Witch smiled and shook her head.
"The creatures of Dreamland must differ from us in some way; what is effective on them could be deadly poison to us." She picked up a drop of milky Lu Er De Holy Water with a straw, dropped it onto a new glass slide, then flipped through the Law book and cast a detection spell.
Invisible magic fluctuations echoed within the Protect Legal Formation.
After being analyzed by the spell, the drop of Holy Water left a circle of colorful marks on the slide. The Witch scrutinized the length and thickness of the different colors in those marks, recording notes and announcing various values.
Zheng Qing deftly incorporated those values into the detection spell formula, voiced the spell, and watched as a pale white Bubble slowly rose from the Law book.
"No significant changes in form and shape," he examined the Bubble carefully, then pricked it with the tip of a Feather Pen. With a pop, the Bubble transformed into a flurry of fine white lights, which landed on Zheng Qing’s fingertips: "Preliminary feeling... the effect of warding off evil increased, healing effect unchanged."
"We still need a frog," the Witch put down the Law book in her hand and sighed gently.
Just as Zheng Qing was about to offer some words of comfort, a slight rustling noise suddenly came from outside the Array. The two Young Wizards quickly flipped through their Law books, each activating a spell formula.
Not far from the Array, the delicate branches of a cluster of starflowers gently shook, and a moment later, a dusty figure emerged from the shrubs, holding a brown figure in its mouth.
The dusty figure was Furry Bean.
And that brown figure was a Big Mouse.
The Mouse was already dead, its oily fur had turned somewhat dry. Its head drooped, and a thin stream of blood flowed from its neck, falling to the ground and quickly being absorbed by the soil.
Not far away in the oak forest, a confused flapping sound could be heard. Even though the Young Wizards couldn’t understand the meaning behind the flapping, they could feel the sorrow and anger in it.
Zheng Qing took one last look at the dead brown Mouse.
"Have you found them?" He turned his head towards Furry Bean to inquire about the results of the contact.
Furry Bean perked up its ears and wagged its Tail, joyfully ’meowing’ in response.
"Where are they?" As soon as he said it, Zheng Qing immediately remembered that Furry Bean couldn’t speak and quickly added: "Just point out their direction to me..."
"This is the simplified map we’ve drawn," Jiang Yu immediately took out the map they had prepared earlier and placed it in front of Gouzi: "Can you understand it? Here is where we are; behind is that forest, ahead are the plains, farms, a small river... and there’s that mountain range."
Gouzi lowered its head to ponder for a moment.
Then it reached out a paw, first sliding down along the small river downstream, all the way to the end of the river, then sliding for a while in the blank space, finally stopping at a position, pressing a plum blossom mark.
Following that, it moved its paw onto the mountain range, continuing to slide, and after a long time in the blank space, it stopped and pressed a second plum blossom mark.
Then it raised its head and ’meowed’ at the two Young Wizards.
Zheng Qing and Jiang Yu looked at each other in confusion.
