Hero Hack: Reversing Heroes and Raising Harem-Chapter 36: Demon Boy’s Charm
Chapter 36: Demon Boy's Charm
Zain stepped into the sleek apartment, warm light glowing over polished floors and minimal, modern decor.
The scent of jasmine and something spicy drifted in the air—Savra's scent.
She glanced back over her shoulder and motioned toward the hallway.
"Bedroom's to the right," she said. "Go put your sister down."
Zain nodded and carried Zelia gently through the hallway, pushing open the bedroom door.
He laid her on the bed carefully, adjusting the pillow beneath her head.
He paused for a second—just watching her breathe.
Then he stepped back out and closed the door behind him.
Savra was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, a lazy smirk already curling her lips.
"Alright," she said.
"You've dropped the sleeping beauty. Now spill it. What the hell did you do?"
Zain mirrored her smirk. "Returned from Rust Rats territory."
"Oh?" She raised a brow. "Alive?"
"Not just alive," he said. "I killed three more of them."
Savra straightened up.
"Wait—you mean..."
"Yeah," Zain said.
"The two you warned me about—Flicker and Skritch."
He paused, then added with a sharp glint in his eyes.
"And one more."
Savra's smile faded slightly. "Who?"
"Mirro."
Savra's eyes widened.
"The sniper? The mirror-jumping escape rat? You actually got her?"
Zain shrugged casually. "She wasn't that hard once I knew her ability."
Savra let out a low whistle.
"Damn... she's evaded three C-Rank teams. And you're telling me you hunted her down and survived it?"
He leaned against the wall beside her, folding his arms. "More or less."
Savra laughed, shaking her head. "So let me piece this together..."
She raised her finger with every point.
"Mirro stalks you, finds your house, kidnaps your sister..."
"You chase her down, kill her, save your sister, and then escape from Scavratt—the Rust Rats leader—alone?"
Zain smirked. "Wow. To think you actually managed to guess all that."
Savra smirked back. "You really are a walking hazard."
Zain's voice dropped slightly. "To villains? Yeah."
Savra opened her mouth, ready to toss another teasing remark.
But before she could speak, a sharp cry echoed down the room.
Zain's expression shifted instantly.
He turned without a word and rushed to the bedroom.
Inside, Zelia had bolted upright in bed, eyes wide with fear, breath trembling as she looked around.
Zain moved to her side in seconds.
"It's okay. I'm here."
Zelia's eyes locked onto his. "Zain... you're really here?"
He nodded, kneeling beside the bed. "Yeah. I'm right here."
She gripped his sleeve tightly, still shaking.
"Where are we? Is that... that rat thing still here?"
Zain placed a hand over hers. "No. We escaped. You're safe."
He gently guided her back to lie down again. "We're in a friend's place. You're protected."
Savra stepped in with a small smile, arms relaxed at her sides.
"Hello, big sister. Name's Savra. Zain's... friend. You're in my home now."
Zelia blinked, her breathing slowly evening out.
"I... I see."
She managed a weak smile.
"Nice to meet you, Savra. And thank you."
Savra winked. "Anytime."
Zain brushed some hair from Zelia's forehead.
"Just sleep for a while, sister. You're safe now. I'll be right outside."
Zelia nodded softly, eyes closed shut.
Zain stood up slowly, eyes lingering on her for a moment longer before walking back out with Savra.
"She'll be okay," Savra said, glancing at him.
"She's strong. Just like her little brother."
Zain didn't answer immediately.
Then he exhaled and muttered, "She shouldn't have had to be."
---
Zain stepped out of the bedroom with Savra, the door closing softly behind him.
"So," she said, folding her arms, "what are you going to do now?"
Zain stayed quiet for a long moment.
Then his shoulders lowered just slightly.
"I... don't know."
Savra glanced at him. "That's rare. You saying that."
Zain looked away, voice low.
"Scavratt... he's stronger than I expected. He's not some street rat."
"He's B-Rank, isn't he?" she asked, already expecting the answer.
Zain nodded. "B-Rank. Tough body. Rat beastman transformation."
Savra exhaled through her nose.
"Yeah... no wonder. He's been running CB-2 like a ghost for years. Not even B-Rank heroes could pin him."
She stepped closer.
"So. You gonna go back and finish it? Or let him crawl around looking for you?"
Zain was already thinking. If I go in like this, I won't win. But if I absorb enough corpses... enough raw material...
He clenched his fists. "He's definitely hunting for me. But I'll get to him first."
He looked at her directly now. "I need time. If I want to fight on even ground... I have to be stronger."
Savra gave a small nod. "Then be stronger."
Zain sighed. "Of course I will. But first..."
He turned slightly, glancing back toward the bedroom.
"I need you to protect my sister. Just for a little while."
Savra raised her eyebrow.
"That's it? You're trusting me with your only family?"
Zain gave her a rare, tired smile.
"You're good. And I've already seen how you look when you're serious."
She tilted her head, smirking. "Flattery now? Well then, just go now."
Zain frowned slightly.
"No cheering me up or worrying about me."
Savra leaned on her sofa, her eyes glinting with amusement.
"I've got my eyes on you. You don't need my cheer, Demon boy."
Zain nodded, the edge of a smile still lingering. "Yeah. I don't."
There was a brief pause.
The tension between them was light but tangible.
Zain stood up and turned toward the door.
"Stay safe, Savra. I'll be back."
Savra's smile softened just for a moment before she returned to her usual teasing tone.
"I'm always safe. But you... you better be careful out there. Scavratt won't be easy."
Zain's gaze hardened, determination flickering in his eyes.
"He's not the first villain I've hunted. He won't be the last."
Savra gave a knowing chuckle. "True. You always were good at making a mess."
Zain smirked as he reached for the door handle. "And I'm getting better."
With a final nod, Zain stepped out of the apartment, leaving Savra sitting on the sofa.
