Chapter 98: Chapter 98

Amelia felt a sharp pain course through her body, and her eyes fluttered open. She was back in the Song mansion, tied to a chair. Her gaze swept the room, searching desperately for any sign of Song Yue, but he was nowhere to be found.

Seeing her awake, the guard said to the man lurking in the corner, "Boss, she’s awake."

"Awake?" a rough, harsh voice replied.

"Yes," the guard confirmed.

Song Ren emerged from the shadows, holding a gun in his hand. He looked intimidating as he approached, step by step, until he stopped before Amelia.

"How do you feel?" he asked coldly.

Amelia asked indifferently, "Why are you doing this?"

Song Ren laughed softly, "You can only blame my father... and your fiancé."

A violent wave of emotion churned inside Amelia’s heart, but her face remained composed. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Song Ren’s smile twisted with malice. "Don’t know? Wait a while, and you’ll find out. Let’s call your fiancé now."

---

Amelia’s phone wouldn’t go through, and the locator installed on it pointed to the Song mansion. Kai’s expression darkened.

Suddenly, the phone rang.

Kai looked at the caller ID, and anger surged through him as he quickly answered.

"Kai, we’ve been waiting for you," Song Ren’s voice sneered through the phone.

His grip tightened on the phone. Kai responded with an indolent, casual tone, "Oh? I thought who... but it turns out it’s you."

Song Ren’s body radiated violent fury, his eyes burning with hatred. "Aren’t you wondering why you were suddenly attacked? Aren’t you looking for your fiancée? Or do you actually believe she’s safe?"

Kai chuckled dryly. "Is that why you called me?"

Song Ren’s smile grew twisted, his laugh escalating into a sinister roar. "Don’t act so nonchalant. You care for her deeply, so how could you not care? I don’t have time to play games, don’t treat me like a fool."

Kai’s face shifted abruptly. His nails dug into his palm until blood slowly oozed out, the pain unnoticed as his mind raced. "What do you want?"

Though Kai maintained his indifferent façade, Song Ren sensed his turmoil. His voice dropped to a wicked tone. "Who knew you’d ever have a day like this? Come to the Song mansion. And you must come alone. If you break the terms, I’ll kill your woman immediately."

Something settled deep within Kai’s eyes; his expression became unreadable.

"Okay," he said quietly. "But if you dare touch even a strand of her hair, I won’t let you live."

Song Ren smiled cruelly. "I’ll wait for you here. There are quite a few debts to be settled." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

After hanging up, Song Ren whirled to face Amelia, a triumphant smile spreading across his face. "I didn’t expect this," he said cheerfully. "I thought I’d be stuck worrying about how to deal with Kai, he seemed untouchable. But it seems like fate actually sent me a golden opportunity."

Amelia felt a cold unease crawl over her. "What the hell do you want?"

Song Ren’s piercing gaze locked onto her, madness swirling in his eyes. Then with a twisted grin, he became terrifyingly sinister.

"Of course, I want him to feel everything I’ve endured in this damned family. I want him to know real pain. After all, he loves you very much." He stepped closer, tapping the gun against Amelia’s cheek. "And of course, I’m going to use you to destroy him so that the reins of the Song family will be mine."

...

No matter how much Kai tried to suppress it, his blood felt like it was boiling backwards at the thought of the woman he loved in danger. Silent panic crept in, consuming his heart.

He told himself to stay calm, to think quickly of plans that could counter every possible scenario. But his anxiety betrayed him: his hands clenched tightly, his nails digging into his palms until red blood slowly trickled down, unnoticed.

"Calm down," Shen Xue’s voice echoed quietly beside him.

Kai turned to find Shen Xue standing calmly. "If you get too anxious, you might not fight properly when we get there."

Though Shen Xue’s tone was composed, he understood exactly what Kai was feeling. If it were his own Jin-er in this situation, he’d likely be feeling just as desperate.

"We need a plan," Kai said, voice steadying. "Especially since he warned you to come alone. If we brought others, the chances of Amelia getting hurt would be too high."

Kai nodded to himself. Shen Xue was right. Despite his anxiety over Amelia’s danger, he had to control it.

He took a deep breath and looked at Shen Xue with newfound resolve. "So, what do you suggest?"

Arriving at the Song mansion, Kai’s brow furrowed deeply and his expression grew grim.

His phone rang suddenly. He answered promptly, voice trembling slightly. "Song Ren."

Hearing the rage and warning in Kai’s voice made Song Ren smile gleefully.

"Kai," Song Ren said happily, "good, I can see you’re alone. Hurry up and come in, or the next time you see your dear fiancée will be when she’s dead."

Kai stepped into the mansion, his heart pounding as he saw Amelia tied to a chair. The ropes binding her hands had already begun causing the area to be red, creating a picture of fragile beauty. Their eyes met, and he saw Amelia’s lips weakly tremble as she whispered, "K-Kai..."

His eyes darkened with rage, but he kept his emotions in check, not uttering a single word.

Instead, he turned to Song Ren and asked calmly, "What do you want?"

Song Ren smirked and replied, "Give me the heirloom representing the head of the Song family. If you do that, I’ll let Amelia go free. But if you don’t, I have no choice but to take matters into my own hands." He added with a cold grin, pointing to one of his guards who was holding a gun. "After that, we’ll give you the gun and you should just shoot yourself."
