GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?-Chapter 2054: Torture.
It is good that he has he has a mentality that doesn’t care about where he lives because the dormitory is far from being fancy. It is just a single room with a bunk bed.
The kitchen, toilet, and bathroom are communal. They belong to everyone on the floor of the barracks.
There are 10 rooms in total on each floor. If each room contains 2 people, that will mean 20 people share the kitchen, two toilets, and two bathrooms available on their floor.
This is a far cry from what he has ever experienced in his life. Even the worst experience he has ever had is better than this.
But just like he said, where he lives and how he lives don’t matter. There are many more things that don’t matter and other things he would like to prioritize.
For example, he would prefer not to need to eat, sleep, and excrete over living in a fancy place. These three things are more insulting to him than his living conditions.
There is also his weak body and slow mind. There is the lack of fine body control and the ability to feel pain. There are many such things he would like to do away with as soon as possible.
"It is as if I have been crippled. No one should have to live like this."
He sighed and looked around his single room again. He knew that he would have to share the bunk bed with his roommate, but it is the matter of his need for sleep that is disgusting him.
After all, if he didn’t need to sleep, eat, and excrete, it wouldn’t matter where he lived. What’s more, the food he has been eating has been terrible, so it is as if he has been tortured for six years.
After moving into the dormitory, he finally saw a mirror and could see what he looked like for the first time.
He was a young man of about 22 years old. His hair red and his skin was fair. He was of average height, which is 2 meters all.
Everything about him is average. This is the normal appearance of humans. At most, humans would have blond hair, but the pale white skin is universal.
Even his muscular physique is pretty common for people who live in villages and work the farm all year around. The only thing that is odd about him is his nearly yellow eyes.
Normal human eyes are black. He doesn’t know if his eyes used to be yellow all of his life, but most of the people he has met these days have black eyes. Only godclads and, according to the secret knowledge he knows, descendants of powerful godclads, have eyes of different colors.
He could see all of these despite the low-intensity of the light produced by the lamp because his eyes have gotten used to seeing in low-light conditions after six years.
He has also gotten used to the all-year-round cold temperature of this world. The world is not freezing cold, but it is always cool and sometimes chilly.
These two things are caused by the lack of a star to provide energy. The source of life and heat in this world is the spirit springs. These springs are trying, but they are not nearly good enough to replace the sun.

He shook his head in pity and said, "How low I have fallen that I need some spring in the ground to be alive. I used to have infinite energy. I used to be able to eat stars. I used to have the potential to become a universe. Yet, here I am hoping that the spirit spring in the town doesn’t dry up and I die because of the lack of heat."
He lamented his situation again before moving to the balcony. His room was on the third floor, so he had a good view of his compound and the city beyond it.
The compound that his barracks is in had no other large buildings. There was one small gatekeeper’s building beside the gate in front of the three-story building.
The gate and the three-story building form two long parallel lines. Beyond them is a street.
Unlike the village where he was raised, there isn’t just one street in this town. There are two main roads that lead from the north to south and east to west of the city.
The two main roads cross at approximately the center of the city. Many streets then branch off from the roads.
So Ivory Town has more people, more buildings, and more sources of light. Looking down from his balcony, he could see many lamps light up in the dark.
The odd thing is that it is currently daytime. The ground is currently glowing dimly with enough light to walk and not stumble. But the rest of the world is dark.
This is what the world of Tenebrium world is. If not for the spirit spring at the center of the town, then this place would be a frozen hellhole.
The ground doesn’t glow everywhere in this world. The ground only glows around a spirit spring.
The spirit spring produces heat, a small amount of light, and energy water that is used to plant.
Without heat, this place would be frozen. Without the dim light, there won’t be any concept of day and night. Finally, without energy water, there won’t be food.
Plants have adapted to not needing light to fall on their leaves to grow. They can use the heat and light in the ground to grow.
Plants can also use energy water to grow. The more energy water they are given, the faster they will grow and the larger their produce will be.
So without spirit springs, there can’t be any settlement, human or otherwise. Both humans and beasts need spirit springs to live.
Spirit springs are not all the same size. They vary in size and output of energy and water.
The larger a spirit spring is, the larger its area of influence and the higher its output of energy water. A small spirit spring might only be able to support a few people, so a village is built around it.
