Chapter 105 - 105: I Like You the Most

Bai Luo had been wandering the mountains with Qiqi for over two days. Perhaps it was because their time together at Bubu Pharmacy had been pleasant enough that Qiqi hadn't driven him away.

In these desolate mountains, having a companion didn't seem too bad.

The only issue was that Qiqi often forgot Bai Luo's name, along with his appearance. She could recognize him mainly because of his black attire. However, the "sour" smell he carried had firmly imprinted itself in her memory—one of the few tastes she could sense besides "hot" and "cold."

"What's your name again?"

This was the seventeenth time Qiqi had asked Bai Luo his name during their journey. Though she repeatedly promised to remember it, she always ended up forgetting for some reason.

At one point, after Bai Luo told her his name, she had repeated it over and over in an attempt to memorize it:

"Bai Luo, Bai Luo, Bai Luo..."

But then she accidentally tripped on a rock. After getting back up, she had already misremembered the name:

"Luo Bai, Luo Bai, Luo Bai..."

Bai Luo could only sigh lightly at this. At least she had just switched the order around and hadn't called him "Baijie."

"Just call me Xiao Bai," he said.

"Xiao Bai..."

The name felt familiar, but she couldn't recall why.

She thought about checking her notebook, only to realize it was buried at the bottom of her herb basket and couldn't be retrieved.

This was a problem. Qiqi's orders to herself were all written in that notebook. If she didn't regularly issue commands to herself, unexpected situations could arise.

For instance, Qiqi had wandered off chasing a peculiar squirrel and disappeared. If Bai Luo hadn't left a mark on her earlier, it would have been challenging to find her.

When Bai Luo caught up to her, she was crouched on the ground, using her herbalist's spade to dig a hole over a meter deep. Her clothes were filthy.

This was one of the downsides of her commands. Without someone to cancel them, she would continue digging until she caught the squirrel.

Unfortunately, she would never catch it because the creature wasn't a squirrel at all—it was a Treasure Hoarder Ferret.

Sighing helplessly, Bai Luo stepped into the hole and gently lifted Qiqi out.

Even as he picked her up from behind, Qiqi's hands continued mimicking a digging motion, making her seem like a little robot.

"I like you the most."

Upon hearing this, Qiqi, who had been endlessly digging, paused in confusion.

Commands could indeed be troublesome, but they weren't without solutions. One method was precisely what Bai Luo had done—holding her from behind and saying those words, which served as a counter-command.

"Luo Bai?"

Her small, dirty face showed a trace of puzzlement. Tilting her head, she looked at Bai Luo, who had set her down, and called out his name.

Well, a name, at least.

"It's Bai Luo... but whatever makes you happy."

For someone who'd been apart from him for so long, the effort she was putting into remembering even part of his name was touching. There was no point in making things harder for her.

The herbs in her basket had scattered during her digging frenzy, but at least the buried notebook was now retrievable.

After helping her gather the herbs, Bai Luo also wiped the dirt off her face. However, he refrained from touching the talisman on her forehead—who knew what might happen if he removed it? Better not to tempt fate.

"Luo Bai... good friend. Hmm... same as Xiao Bai."

On the last page of her notebook, Qiqi pulled out a brush, licked its tip, and wrote down a sentence in elegant handwriting:

"Luo Bai, Qiqi's good friend."

The notebook also contained other notes:

Xiao Bai, Qiqi's good friend.

Ningguang: very big, very white, very yellow—Lady Ningguang, the Tianquan.

Yaoyao: small and cute like a sparrow; want to raise one.

Sunsettia: sour and tasty; want to plant a tree.

Luo Bai: black, good friend.

Coconut milk: white and delicious; want to raise one.

"Looks like we've stumbled upon an unexpected bonus," a sarcastic voice interrupted as Bai Luo and Qiqi were cleaning up.

A group of unfriendly individuals emerged from the bushes, encircling them.

When Bai Luo saw the Treasure Hoarder Ferret earlier, he had suspected the presence of Treasure Hoarders nearby. He thought the creature might just be hiding in its den, but it seemed it had dug a second tunnel and brought reinforcements.

Too bad for them, their reinforcements weren't particularly impressive.

"Hmm..."

Upon spotting the Treasure Hoarders, Qiqi instinctively reached for her sword. She had encountered similar situations during herb gathering and had long since issued a command to teach such people a lesson.

However, Bai Luo canceled her command at this moment.

"I'll handle this."

After setting Qiqi down, Bai Luo pulled a dagger from his back and glanced at the surrounding men.

True, his Hei skills weren't suited for large-scale battles, but these were mere Treasure Hoarders. They wouldn't pose much of a challenge.

It was just a matter of swinging his dagger a few more times.

"Look, man, you've got a kid with you. We don't want trouble. Leave half the herbs and go, and we'll let you pass," the leader said, seemingly wary of Bai Luo's presence—or perhaps having heard of Qiqi's reputation.

This might sound absurd, but considering the valuable herbs in Qiqi's basket, it made sense.

Qiqi wasn't an ordinary herb-gatherer. Her harvests came from remote, treacherous locations, making her collection extremely valuable. Half of it would be a considerable "toll."

However, Bai Luo wasn't one to be exploited. If anything, he was the type to pluck every feather off a goose before letting it fly.

In a flash, his dark figure appeared beside the leader. The dagger in his hand plunged into the man's chest, though Bai Luo blocked the scene from Qiqi's view.

He didn't want her to see this.

Despite being thousands of years old, he still thinks of Qiqi as a child.

"Ugh..."

The leader felt a chilling sensation in his chest as his strength drained away. The cold spread throughout his body as blood foamed in his mouth.

To the other Treasure Hoarders' astonishment, Bai Luo appeared to gently assist the staggering man to a nearby tree, like helping an elderly person sit down.

"Who else wants a rest?"

Flicking the blood off his dagger, Bai Luo's face mask—unfolded at some point—gave him the appearance of a ghostly reaper from the underworld. The sight sent chills down their spines.
