Game World's Awakening-Chapter 35: Speaker with Legs
Chapter 35: Speaker with Legs
"Hey, boy, it's you again!"
Elliot frowned when he saw him, but smiled.
"You were right, teamwork is essential in this place," he said, remembering that he had met this guy at the Broken Leaf reception desk.
"Hahahaha, of course that's right! I couldn't lie to you in front of all these powerful people, but unfortunately, I already have a team, so if you come asking me to join you, I have to turn you down. Hahahaha..."
Despite saying that, the guy looked like he was genuinely having fun. In his own world, that guy was having a great time.
'As always, he talks too loudly...' Elliot sighed.
"No, I'm not here..."
"Come on, boy, how about joining us?"
"Huh?"
"What 'eh'? They're groups of at least five, right? We have three, we need two more to make the minimum. And if we get seven or ten, it would be just perfect, and we could pass the tests without any problems. So, join us and help us find someone else."
Elliot was stunned by the number of words spoken in such a short time. This man spoke incredibly fast and loudly, which made it easy to hear him but also made him feel overwhelmed.
Even so, one moment he told him he would have to turn him down, and now he was inviting him to join the group?
'Extroverts sure know how to talk, huh?'
"Rich Ford, who are you talking to?"
A well-dressed, elegant man came up behind the man he was talking to and greeted him with a glance. "Do you two know each other?" he asked.
Rich Ford, the outgoing man, nodded quickly. "Haha, Chris, he's the guy I met at the reception earlier. He says he wants to join the group. Since we need at least five people, why don't we let him in? He seems like a nice guy, even though he doesn't talk much."
Elliot looked at him in shock. 'Huh? When did I say I wanted to join?' But he couldn't get the words out before the other guy spoke.
"Is that true?" he asked, scrutinizing Elliot. "Don't look at him like that; this guy likes to talk and sometimes says stupid things. So, if you don't feel comfortable, we won't force you to join. But if you can consider it, it would be a good idea. Look around, most of the groups are already formed or in the process of being formed. It'll be hard for us to get more members." The other guy was noticeably more respectful, calm, and polite than Rich. He also spoke much slower and softer. He was nice.
Elliot nodded at his response and looked around.
'He's right. Most of the groups are already formed. Besides, I don't have a good reputation in town. I'm sure someone will recognize me, making it harder to get a party.'
He weighed the pros and cons of joining the group, even though he didn't really need to. One requirement for completing the test was to have a party, so he couldn't do it alone with just himself and his summons in this case.
So he ended up agreeing.
"Sure, why not? Although I'm not good at socializing, I hope we can make a good team."
"Haha, good guy, good guy. As expected of me, I wasn't wrong in wanting to team up with you earlier, hahahaha..." Rich Ford laughed loudly, as if he found it funny or simply exciting.
The other sighed.
"All right, my name is Chris. I'm the team leader. This is Rich, also known as 'Speaker with Legs.' Our third member isn't here, but I'll introduce him to you later." Chris was more polite and shook his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Chris. You can call me Elliot."
"All right, Elliot. We only need one more person on the team to make it five. With that, we'd at least have the minimum... What do you think would be a good idea?" he asked, looking around.
Despite saying that, Chris soon sighed. "But there doesn't seem to be anyone free... Let's hope there are some in the other groups. I don't want to be disqualified just because we don't have enough people."
At that moment, Rich stepped between them.
"How about Elliot tries to convince that beauty?" he said suddenly.
Chris took a deep breath when he saw that he was pointing at the woman, so he raised his hand and pushed his finger back.
"Ouch!" Rich cried out and quickly withdrew his hand, but he didn't escape Chris's reprimand.
"Can you act sensibly for once? Now you see why I didn't want to be in a group with you?"
Rich looked at him with a complaint, but didn't say anything. Finally, he sighed.
Elliot watched the exchange between the two, who were clearly good friends, and laughed a little. 'Having friends is a good idea, I guess.'
Still, he looked at the beauty Rich was talking about.
'Miss Jenna?' he thought.
"You mean that girl isn't in a group?" he asked.
Rich then saw his chance to shine and put his arm around Elliot's shoulder. "Haha, man, let me tell you..."
He suddenly started telling him all sorts of things about Jenna.
"...So, she's turned everyone down, including our great Chris, ha ha ha. That's why everyone looks at her but doesn't approach her. And when I said you should ask her out, I was joking. She'll reject you like she does everyone else, so don't even try. If you catch her in a bad mood, she might even hit you, hahahaha."
After hearing the whole story, Elliot nodded. Although most of it was unnecessary information, he paid close attention.
"Is she planning to take the test on her own?"
"Probably. I don't know if it's allowed by the rules, but there are rumors that certain people are allowed to do so. Maybe she's too powerful."
Elliot nodded. 'With her wealth and power, she's probably the one they'll let do it alone... I wonder if she'll succeed. We still haven't been told what the test will be about, after all.'
He couldn't help but feel intrigued, so he looked at Rich.
"You said to invite her earlier, right? But then you said she'd reject me if I invited her. Want to bet?"
Rich looked back at him, confused. "You want to bet? You're going to invite her?" he asked in shock.
"Yes. I win if she accepts, I lose if she rejects me. It's simple, isn't it?"
Rich stared at him with his mouth open. "Really? What are you planning to bet?"
"20,000 dollars."
"Puff...! Bastard, my wealth is barely 50,000!"
"So what? Mine is only 30,000."
Rich froze when he heard that, but suddenly he realized what was going on.
"I get it, so you want to double your wealth at the expense of my measly $50,000. Fine, I'll bet you. Let me increase my wealth by 50% then. I'm a poor devil, buy having $70,000 in my bank account will make me happy!" He exclaimed and even raised his hand as if it were some kind of battle cry.

He spoke so loudly that all the nearby groups noticed the bet, although seeing how poor they were, they didn't care. Among all the Awakened present, Elliot and Rich were probably the poorest in the place, but neither seemed ashamed of this.
They suddenly bet a significant portion of their wealth on a foolish wager.
Elliot bet only because he thought it would be a good idea to form a friendship with someone as eccentric as himself, since he was a simple guy. But the reality was that he didn't have the confidence to bring her into the group, even though he didn't care.
He had decided to try to be friendlier to people and make friends, but he had rejected her before without explaining why. That wasn't the way to do things, so it was the perfect excuse to apologize.
