Chapter 327 -326: Mama Bear’s Righteous Assistance_2
“You see, there are more vultures and bearded vultures over there.”
“Is there a large number of carcasses over there?”
In winter, bearded vultures and vultures gather in such numbers only when a significant amount of food is discovered; otherwise, they would have already migrated to slightly warmer places with more food for the winter.
Chen Ying’s equipment suddenly displayed a new marker, indicating Er Niu moving at high speed.
Before long, several lynxes appeared in their line of sight.
However, three of them stopped more than five hundred meters away, huddling together and watching Er Niu run towards the convoy.
“Hey, we’ve found some two-legged beasts; they’re nearly dead. There are also a lot of wolves, and the big bear is about to die.”
“Give the meat to my friends; they’re very hungry.”
Without a second word, Chen took half a sheep and two rabbits from the vehicle and placed them on the grass beside the convoy.
“You stay with your friends and have something to eat; we’re going to rush over to the rescue.”
Er Niu immediately jumped on board. “Let them eat here by themselves; I’ll go with you.”
Er Niu let out a couple of cries towards the three snow leopards and hurried Chen Ying to get going by jumping on board.
They hadn’t gone far before they saw plenty of carnivorous beasts wandering around.
Wolves were the majority, and they were small packs, approximately six or seven each.
There were also leopards and lynxes, which were quite numerous and watchful of each other, but none were willing to leave, as if waiting for a signal to start eating.
Further afield, a group of more than twenty golden-brown wild yaks were running wild, venting their energy.
“We’ve found tire tracks; they’re leading to the lakeside.”
Two drones flew out one after the other, and soon they started transmitting images back.
An old shack by the lake came into view, with two vehicles parked beside it, blocking the front door and windows.
Near the shack, there were no fewer than ten wolf carcasses, and additionally, there was a semi-grown brown bear lying on the ground.
In the distance, five or six wolves were attacking a brown bear, and two lynxes were helping the brown bear to surround and kill the wolf pack.
Chen Ying recognized one of them as Jinya, and the other showed even stronger combat prowess than Jinya, taking on two wolves alone.
The vehicle had barely come to a stop when Er Niu howled and rushed over to help Jinya fight.
A large group of bearded vultures and vultures had gathered around the wolf carcasses. Two vultures were watching the semi-grown brown bear, attempting to peck at it.
Upon closer inspection, they discovered that in addition to the visible wolf carcasses, there were many bones scattered amongst the dry grass on the ground.
The little bear was lying face down, and seemed to be lifeless. Chen Ying didn’t hesitate to cover the bear with a cotton coat to prevent it from being pecked by the vultures.
The arrival of the convoy scared off the large birds, but they did not retreat completely; instead, they moved back a few meters, warily watching the newcomers.
The rescue team split into two groups; Yin Li, Chen Ying, and the Forest Police went to drive away the wolves, while the others moved the vehicles blocking the door to check on the missing team members.
Upon entry, they found not only the very weak members of their team but also a little bear about the same size as the dead cub outside huddled together with the team members.
Upon discovery by their rescuers, the members lying on the ground finally couldn’t hold back their tears and cried out.
Chen Ying, Yin Li, and several members of the Forest Police used vehicles, car horns, long sticks, and knives to produce noise, finally scaring off the aggressive wolves.
The wolves didn’t leave completely, however, and instead, ran some forty or fifty meters away, lurking around. Their eyes gleamed menacingly, staring at them as if ready to pounce at any moment.
Once the wolves had left, the big bear sat down from exhaustion, resting for a good while before struggling to move closer to the shack.
Chen Ying realized that this bear was one he knew.
It was Mama Bear, whom they had encountered by Zhuonai Lake in the summer.
Upon this realization, he turned his eyes back to the little brown bear lying motionless on the ground, and he felt indescribably pained.
Mama Bear did not enter the shack; it circled around to the side of its child, pawed off the covering clothes, and made a low wailing noise, desperately licking the cub’s head.
Chen Ying approached, turned the little bear over, and felt for a heartbeat, which he found no pulse.
The big bear pushed him away, attempting to carry away its child, but after taking a few steps, it suddenly remembered it had another child, let go, and gave out a hoarse cry.
The condition of the little bear inside the shack was also dire: injured, starved, cold, and scared, it barely had the strength to stand.
Hearing its mother’s cries, the little bear opened its mouth but couldn’t even make a sound.
“Stop calling, your child is in very bad shape; you can’t take him away. Stay here, and I’ll heal him.”
Mama Bear let out a couple of low moans and sat down dejectedly.
Chen Ying picked up the little bear from the ground, wrapped it in his coat, and placed it on the floor by the door.
He then carried down a plastic box from the vehicle and took out some sheep meat, hoping to get Mama Bear to eat something and rest.
He checked the other little bear’s condition and fed it some milk and nutritional powder mixed into a paste.
The rescued mountain patrol team members, cold and uncomfortable themselves, protected the little bear very well.
“If it hadn’t been for the mother bear, we would have been eaten by those wolves by now.”
The mountain patrol team members looked at the brown bear mother with complicated expressions.
They had set out with two tasks: one was routine patrolling, and the other was to survey the wild yaks between the two lakes.
At the end of their survey, when they were about to start their return journey, they discovered a group of wild golden silk yaks.
They were all experts and knew they shouldn’t get too close to wild yaks.
Yaks are temperamental and quick to anger, especially when they sense threats from humans or vehicles, and they will attack proactively.
