Chapter 35 - 35. Hooves

I chilled for nearly a week inside the hospital. The attorneys visited me, and my grandma and the guys called me. The former told me we would meet in front of the police bureaus for a formal interview; the latter told me to just get better soon.

It seemed my body was really enchanted somehow; I got on my feet quicker than the doctors could believe, healing fully. That was good news. Tomorrow was the formal interview, so tonight I was going to the place where Henrietta was found.

It would look awful if they discovered me on the site her body was found, but I needed to walk to this parallel world, or I would never be able to get my name cleared.

I got the attorneys to bring me black clothes and a mask, and I went out of the hospital at night. I got the address from my vision and searched it on my new phone, which they brought me as well.

Because this district was fully renovated, all at once, I had to walk a good part and climb over temporary walls that hindered people like me from entering.

I walked a good while until I found the place—at least thirty minutes. It was night and nobody was here; it was really ghostly. Or at least I thought I was alone.

"You had me a few times." A deep voice sounded, and I turned around in alarm.

It was Henry, having a phone in his hand, clearly filming me.

"Especially at the morgue. What to do if the murderer of your sister dies in front of your eyes? I was torn for a moment. And your eyes." He tapped at his face, under his eye, where his mole was.

"How did you do it?" He asked, tilting his head as if he was watching a show.

"But alas, you came back to the crime scene, at least where her body was found. You know, not only am I filming you, the police does so as well." He pointed at a few places that were too dark as for me to see.

"Be ready for a life as a dog." I mumbled, ignoring him and walking through the vicinity.

"And stop being a Karen. If I am already filmed, then get that phone down."

"As you wish." He chuckled, following a few steps behind me.

"See, blood is really difficult to get out." He said, staring at a dark spot on the ground.

"Have you even seen her corpse?" I asked him.

"No. I just couldn't." He looked at the street as if he had lost his soul for a moment.

"I really wanted to believe you a few times; you were just so... I don't know, cute? Did you get her like this? Did you charm her like this?" His eyes frosted all over.

I could not see any abnormalities in my surroundings.

"Henry, you fucker. I never lied to you. The truth is probably more unbelievable than we both can imagine."

"Remember your promise." I turned and walked in a big circle. There... from what I saw between the new houses, behind them, there was a forest.

I had seen Henry carrying myself in a forest, and I had seen Haruka being killed by me in a forest; both times it had been visions of the parallel world.

I walked in the direction of the forest.

"There is no use in trying to kill me." Henry chirped behind me.

"Although I would love for you to come and try."

"Can you shut the fuck up? I have it with you. I wanna see you kneel when the time comes." I was getting annoyed, but the thought also had me a little excited.

We reached the forest, and it was pitch-black inside. I took my phone and checked the email that would go out to the guys in two days, telling them that I would try to cross, and that they should stay calm and behave in the meanwhile.

Putting on the flashlight, I trusted my instincts. Flipping the coin in my mind, without touching Henry because I just didn't want to touch him. Instead, I did so randomly; the coin disappeared every time I threw it in the air before appearing on the back table again, amidst the darkness of my mind.

However, while imaging me flipping the coin, and simultaneously walking in a forest with someone who wanted to murder me, I saw the coin disappearing, and appearing again with something unusual on it.

The woman had no hands on her anymore; instead there, on the table in my mind, there lay the coin, showing the woman with a wretched smile.

"Stop!" I said and halted myself.

"Hmm? What is your plan, Kennith?" Henry came closer, whispering in my ear.

"Shut it." I hissed back.

He was in the midst of taking a breath to continue to speak when we both heard a noise—something loud, something near.

I pushed Henry behind me and looked in the direction, only for him to break into loud laughter.

"You dumb fucker, I don't care if you die, but don't drag me among." I whispered.

The noise coming from somewhere intensified, and amidst the moonlight, on a slight hill only ten meters in front of us seemed to stand an animal.

Only it was too big for an animal. It was a gigantic deer, strangely formed, with uneven legs—something that gave you the feeling at once; you were looking at an existence that was just wrong.

"Run." I said, turning myself and doing just that.

I heard hooves on the grass, and I knew it had spotted us. Taking on speed, I heard Henry following right behind me.

And then everything went really fast.
