Chapter 2055 - Losing Again

Bi Kongliu hadn’t lost all that badly, but he’d been badly humiliated. One of his legs had been broken, and he sat sprawled in the dirt, looking utterly wretched.

Su Yi watched but did nothing.

When someone pursued the Dao, setbacks and humiliations were inevitable, no matter who they were.

This was a competition, and what competition didn’t have a loser?

It was often in defeat that you could see someone’s spirit and character most clearly. Su Yi was curious to see how Bi Kongliu would respond to this.

He didn’t have to wait long. Bi Kongliu quickly climbed to his feet. Throughout his body, his blood and qi churned as his broken right leg repaired itself.

Then, beneath countless astonished gazes, he strode toward the arena once more. He didn’t admit defeat, nor did he compromise.

This drew widespread derisive laughter from the crowd. Bi Kongliu’s Dao Protectors were frantic and fraught with worry.

Whoosh!

A man in ink-black robes blocked Bi Kongliu’s path and frowned. “You’re no match for Jin Buyi. Fighting him again will only lead to your humiliation. Don’t you think you’ve embarrassed yourself enough?”

“Out of my way,” Bi Kongliu said coldly.

“If he really wants a beating, why stop him? Step aside, Chi Jia!” Jin Buyi said calmly from the arena.

The man in ink-black robes sighed, then stepped aside.

Just as Bi Kongliu was about to return to the arena, a voice said out of nowhere, “Bi Kongliu, a loss is a loss. Everyone here knows that you’re weaker than Jin Buyi, so why bother?”

The crowd was instantly in uproar because the speaker was Mi Yeyun, the Three Purities Daoist Court’s Son of the Dao. He was also the host of tonight’s banquet and the leading figure amongst the divine children present.

Bi Kongliu stopped, then looked at Mi Yeyun. “This is a competition of the Grand Dao. How could I admit defeat lightly?”

Mi Yeyun frowned.

Someone else immediately stepped forth. “Bi Kongliu, don’t you realize that Daoist Brother Mi spoke up for your benefit? If you know what’s good for you, hurry up and admit defeat. If you do, you can reclaim some of your lost face. Refuse, and I’m afraid you’ll leave with your reputation completely in shambles!”

Many others nodded. The keen-eyed among them could tell that Bi Kongliu was no match for Jin Buyi. Even the gods watching coldly from afar felt a bit frustrated that Bi Kongliu wasn’t taking the hint.

Defeat was defeat. Further stubbornness would only make others detest him.

Even in the face of all this, Bi Kongliu said nothing. He just stepped into the arena.

“Very well. You’re a man, at least!” Jin Buyi grinned and attacked directly.

Boom!

A grand battle broke out, but within moments, Jin Buyi had suppressed Bi Kongliu once more. He ruthlessly crushed Bi Kongliu’s right leg, then shifted his feet.

Bang!

Bi Kongliu flew through the air and landed in the dirt outside the arena, his hair disheveled and his right leg covered in blood. His bones had been completely crushed.

The sound of conversation arose throughout the area.

“He had to know he couldn’t win, but he insisted on fighting anyway. How stupid is that?”

“People ought to know their limits. He fought knowing he couldn’t win, like a moth to the flame. He brought his suffering upon himself.”

......

Some of those who’d originally pitied Bi Kongliu now shook their heads. The disparity in strength was clear. How could grit alone possibly change anything?

But against all expectations, Bi Kongliu rose once more, his blood and qi churning as he made for the arena yet again!

The crowd was flabbergasted. Is this guy insane?

Jin Buyi’s brow furrowed imperceptibly, and his eyes flashed with viciousness. “You still won’t admit defeat? Very well. Everyone, I’ll have to trouble you to serve as witnesses. He brought all of this upon himself!”

Boom!

Before long, yet another grand battle broke out.

Bi Kongliu had already lost twice, but this time, against all expectations, he erupted with incredible power, as if his potential had been truly stimulated. Soon, he and Jin Buyi were locked in fierce combat.

In the end, he bellowed, and his thin frame erupted with monstrous blue divine flames. The fire manifested a Bifang Bird beating its wings and soaring through the blue skies.

This time, he forced Jin Buyi back in a single strike!

The crowd was flabbergasted. Someone exclaimed, “That guy actually awakened his bloodline talent!”

“That’s the Bifang lineage’s Nine Heaven-Severing Strikes! I wouldn’t have thought Bi Kongliu could take this step without first achieving divinity. No wonder his clan values him so highly,” whispered one of the gods.

“The young master’s bloodline talent awakened!” Bi Kongliu’s two Dao Protectors were instantly excited.

“So, it turns out he wasn’t just being stubborn earlier. He wanted to borrow Jin Buyi’s hands to excavate his latent talent and achieve a breakthrough!” someone said with sudden understanding.

Su Yi had watched in silence throughout this process, but when he saw this, he quietly nodded his approval.

Defeat wasn’t scary, not unless you never crawled back onto your feet. The really scary thing was never crawling to your feet again.

Bi Kongliu had done more than just get back up. He’d taken this clash of the Grand Dao as an opportunity to realize a breakthrough in his bloodline talent.

This was rare and impressive, but...

Su Yi could tell that even after his breakthrough, Bi Kongliu was lacking compared to Jin Buyi. It wasn’t a question of accumulations, but rather, that he’d yet to truly master his newly awakened bloodline talent.

Just as Su Yi thought, it wasn’t long before Jin Buyi turned the situation around yet again. He attacked with all his might and defeated Bi Kongliu once more!

Crunch!

Bi Kongliu’s leg snapped once more.

Sighs arose throughout the audience, but almost no one dared make fun of Bi Kongliu now.

“You used me to break through? How could I let you get away without paying for that?” Jin Buyi laughed hideously, his eyes glinting with viciousness as he ruthlessly kicked Bi Kongliu.

Bang!!!

Bi Kongliu flew backward, and throughout his body, countless bones snapped. A dense series of cracks rang out, and he repeatedly coughed out blood.

One kick had dealt him massive damage, almost destroying his physical body.

Gasps rang out throughout the audience. It was just one kick, but it had dealt wounds that wouldn’t knit back together anytime soon.

The Path of the Ancient Gods would soon open. Any injuries Bi Kongliu took now would affect his chances when the time came.

“You...” Bi Kongliu’s two Dao Protectors were furious, and their eyes shone with imposing light.

But Jin Buyi disregarded them completely. Rather, there was no need for him to worry, as he too had Dao Protectors.

“You’ve got no right to object. This is a competition of the Grand Dao!” Jin Buyi laughed coldly. “And it’s not like I killed him or anything. This doesn’t count as breaking the rules!”

He raised his hand and gestured to Bi Kongliu. “Dare you keep fighting? If not, admit defeat and acknowledge that you’re inferior to me in front of the crowd!”

Bi Kongliu wiped the blood from his lips and crawled to his feet with great difficulty. Suddenly, he laughed. “I won’t just admit defeat. I’ll even thank you for serving as my living target and helping me advance my bloodline talent!”

“...” The crowd had nothing to say to that.

Jin Buyi glowered.

Bi Kongliu turned and was about to leave when Su Yi walked over and said, “Wait.”

“Do you have business with me, Fellow Daoist?” Bi Kongliu furrowed his brow in confusion.

“The Golden Luan Clan’s Thunder Vortex Thorn has dealt you a heavy blow,” Su Yi said flatly. “Do you really think that’s so easy to recover from?”

The Thunder Vortex Thorn!

Bi Kongliu’s expression shifted, and the crown was once more thrown into uproar.

This was an extraordinarily tyrannical and insidious forbidden technique. It could silently infiltrate the soul and catch opponents off guard.

The way many of the onlookers looked at Jin Buyi shifted. None of them had anticipated that he’d sink so low or attack with such ruthlessness during a mere clash of the Grand Dao!

“Jin Buyi, I really didn’t think you were that kind of person!” Bi Kongliu’s face was instantly ashen. His two Dao Protectors were visibly enraged as well.

“This was a clash of the Grand Dao. There was no rule forbidding me from using my clan’s secret arts,” Jin Buyi said coldly.

He suddenly turned his attention to Su Yi. “Who are you?”

Su Yi had publicly revealed his petty tricks, and Jin Buyi was furious about it.

The crowd suddenly came to their senses and looked at Su Yi. None of them had noticed Bi Kongliu’s hidden injuries, yet this unassuming young man had somehow managed to detect them.

This startled even many of the gods.

Bi Kongliu was furious. “What, don’t tell me you’re after revenge?”

Jin Buyi said coldly, “Revenge? I wouldn’t call it that. I just want to spar with a stranger. I’m just not sure if he has the courage to accept my challenge or not!”

It was obvious to everyone that Su Yi had enraged Jin Buyi by exposing him. The divine son wanted to seize this opportunity to teach this young interloper a painful lesson!

“I have no interest in beating you up,” said Su Yi. He was already headed toward the arena. “Give me a bottle of Thunder Vortex Pills, and I won’t pursue this any further.”

Thunder Vortex Pills were a type of medicine that fully cured those injured by the Thunder Vortex Thorn.

The crowd was flabbergasted, and their expressions shifted. None of them had anticipated that this seemingly unassuming youth would be so domineering even to Jin Buyi.

Bi Kongliu was moved. He too hadn’t anticipated that Shen Mu, someone he’d only just met, would step forth on his behalf!

But a moment later, his heart clenched in fear that Jin Buyi would hurt his new acquaintance. He was just about to rush onto the stage and pull Su Yi back when Jin Buyi laughed hideously and attacked.

Boom!!

Glittering golden fist force erupted with Laws of Thunder. A destructive aura shook both heaven and earth.

Just as the crowd thought Jin Buyi’s punch was about to send Su Yi flying, an unbelievable scene unfolded before their very eyes.

Jin Buyi’s fist force shattered, inch by inch, and dissipated when it was just three feet from Su Yi.

Then, Su Yi casually pressed down on the air, and...

Bang!

Jin Buyi was flung to the ground, his face contorted with agony as he convulsed from head to toe. The entire sparring grounds shook violently on impact.

Silence descended over the crowd. Even the birds ceased their song.

The gods eager for a spectacle now looked unwittingly gobsmacked. A single attack defeated Jin Buyi, an unparalleled figure among divine children!?

Who is that young man? How could he be so incredible?

Bi Kongliu, who’d only just been about to rush on stage to stop Su Yi, was stunned, too.

“Give me the Thunder Vortex Pills.” Su Yi gazed down at Jin Buyi.

It wasn’t a request. It was an order!

Jin Buyi was visibly overcome with fury, and his eyes bulged as if about to burst. “Dare you fight me again?”

He figured he’d gotten complacent and that he never would have lost in a single hit otherwise.

“Sure,” said Su Yi. “But this time, whoever loses must give the winner all his treasures. Agree to that, and I won’t mind letting you lose again.”

Jin Buyi gnashed his teeth. “Very well!”

Su Yi took a step back, and Jin Buyi struggled to his feet and retreated explosively ten steps back. His blood and qi coursed through him, and his imposing majesty grew until he resembled an enraged god of war.

A colorful, resplendent bronze disc appeared in his hand.

The Divine Eclipse Disc!

This was among the greatest, most ancient treasures of the Great Realm, and it was famous throughout the God Domain. Its powers were wondrous, and its applications were endless!

It would have been obvious to anyone that Jin Buyi no longer saw this as a competition of the Grand Dao. He was putting it all on the line!!
