Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Look at me more, Zhizhi.
“Miss Shen,”
At the entrance of the winery, Secretary Qin hurried over and let the vehicles through. “Chairman Pei is still chatting with some elders. I’ll take you to the private room to wait for a while.”
Secretary Qin led Shen Zhiyi to Pei Yu’s private spa room, where he would come later to soak and sober up after the social obligations.
There were bathrobes in the private room, but they were all men’s models, probably Pei Yu’s personal ones. After settling her in, Secretary Qin hurriedly left. Shen Zhiyi didn’t bother to ask someone to bring other clothes, and made do with a dark gray robe.
Waiting idly was too boring, so Shen Zhiyi entered the spa pool. There were several bottles of wine on the small round table inside, labeled in Italian, which she couldn’t understand. She tried a few sips, remembered the injury on her shoulder, dared not drink more, and put the wine glass back, quietly leaning on the edge of the pool waiting.

It was two hours later when the socializing with the elders ended. These people were friends of Pei Yu’s father’s generation, but they were also among those who pushed for Father Pei’s resignation. Pei Yu had a drink with them during which he signed a few contracts. When he walked out, he looked relatively sober.
Secretary Qin went over to take the documents. “The private room is ready. Call me after you’re done soaking. Your flight is booked for seven o’clock tonight.”
With less than an hour left, Pei Yu responded indifferently, “Mhm,” as he walked, pulling at his restrictive tie.
Since the private room was his exclusive space, everything in the room was his personal property. He casually picked a bathrobe to change into and grabbed a cigarette and lighter before heading to the spa pool in the courtyard.
With a cigarette between his lips and his eyes half-hidden in the smoke, he suddenly caught sight of the pale shoulder emerging from the pool nearby, and his steps halted, his expression turning thoroughly cold.
This had happened many times before. After he had lost his temper once, such intrusions had ceased; no one dared to pull tricks.
Had he been abroad for so long that people had forgotten his style?
Biting on his cigarette, Pei Yu’s gaze turned fierce, and he clicked his tongue irritably.
“Get out.”
What was Secretary Qin doing?
The undisguised disgust in his voice startled the dozing Shen Zhiyi awake. She propped herself up on the edge of the pool, looking over confusedly, “What did you say?”
Having soaked in the pool for a while, not only was her face flushed, but her shoulders and chest were also tinged with a thin red hue. Her long hair was tied up behind her head, revealing her pale, slender neck. Her clear black and white eyes also seemed to be moistened with water.
Pei Yu froze, the swirling smoke obscuring his vision and making her features appear blurred. He stubbed out his cigarette and strode over to stand by the pool, frowning involuntarily, “What are you doing here?”
Perhaps because it was built on a mountain, the air turned somewhat cold after nightfall. Shen Zhiyi, stimulated by the cold air, shivered and sank deeper into the water, leaving only her face exposed. Her tone was light, “Don’t you want to see me?”
After she asked that, she regretted it immediately and explained, “I asked Secretary Qin and came over.”
Pei Yu didn’t answer her question but carefully examined her shoulder soaking in the water, still frowning, “Is it okay to soak with your injury?”
Realizing what he was referring to, Shen Zhiyi floated up, exposing the injured side of her shoulder for him to see, “It’s fine.”
The injury wasn’t severe, but it had required a few stitches and still bore a scar. Pei Yu crouched down, his fingertip gently touching it, then felt like smoking again, “You brought this on yourself.”
He really should have killed Huo Heng.
His eyes were inscrutable, making it impossible to read his thoughts. Shen Zhiyi originally came to make peace, not wanting to see him like this forever. She subtly tugged at his sleeve, “Don’t be mad at me anymore.”
The taste of a cold war was truly unpleasant. Although he was not like Huo Heng, who would shout and yell when angry, his stern face was intimidating enough.
“I’m not mad at you.”
Pei Yu’s face was expressionless, “You haven’t done anything wrong.”
She just didn’t love him.
“So are we good now?”
Shen Zhiyi tugged at his sleeve, tilting her pale neck up, waiting intently for his answer.
She knew that her question undoubtedly prolonged their relationship again, and whenever she hesitated, she thought of the butler’s words and remembered the quiet look Pei Yu gave her.
Strangely, she always felt as if she owed him.
Pei Yu stepped into the pond, supporting her waist and gently lifting her to sit on the edge. He spoke indifferently, “I told you I’m not mad at you, where’s there any making up to do if we didn’t fight?”
He draped his bathrobe over her and frowned upon seeing her wrinkled skin from soaking too long, “How long did you wait?”
“Not long,” Shen Zhiyi said languidly, swinging her legs in the water and occasionally kicking his side, sending ripples spreading out, “Stop frowning all the time.”
She leaned over, poking his brow bone, “You look unhappy.”
Her finger was caught and pressed to his lips for a kiss. Pei Yu’s consistently indifferent expression finally softened, gaining some spirit.
“Okay, no frowning.”
He looked up at her, “Go to the private room?”
“No,” Shen Zhiyi shook her head, “You just got here, let’s soak a bit longer.”
She remembered something, “That wine tasted pretty good, do you want to try it?”
Following the direction she was pointing, Pei Yu arched an eyebrow, “You drank?”
“Can’t I?”
Perhaps it was because she hadn’t seen him for a few days, or perhaps the hot spring had fogged her mind, but Shen Zhiyi was very straightforward tonight, daring to counter, “Can’t I drink your wine?”
“You can,” finding her assertive demeanor cute, Pei Yu’s eyes gleamed with amusement. Suddenly, he reached out, pulling her, who was sitting on the edge, into his arms, holding her tightly.
Shen Zhiyi hadn’t steadied herself when his kiss landed.
His bathrobe was on Shen Zhiyi, his bare upper body, with clearly defined muscles, pressed tightly against her, making her feel his warmth was even hotter than the hot spring water, making her feel like he was akin to wine, intoxicating without even drinking.
Her leg was lifted and hooked around him, her back pressed against the cold stone wall, Shen Zhiyi looked up, feeling he was too hot, wanting to push him away, “I’m hot.”
“Shen Zhiyi,” Pei Yu had no intention of moving back, but pressed even closer, the faint scent of agarwood mixed with his body temperature made her head spin.
He called her name, his large hand cupping her face, his voice deep in her ear.
“Don’t get hurt for someone else again.”
The water rippled and echoed, muffling his whisper. Shen Zhiyi, her eyes hazy, opened them to see his dark gaze settling on her, enveloping her.
“Promise me.”
Promise what? Shen Zhiyi couldn’t understand, trembling as she wrapped her arms around his neck, accepting him as if enticed, “Okay.”
The unharmed shoulder was suddenly bitten, leaving a shallow bite mark; Shen Zhiyi turned her head and saw his quivering long lashes and the lips that gently kissed the mark.
His murmured soliloquy seemed like it was never meant for her to hear, but being so close, she unavoidably heard some of it.
“…look at me more, Zhizhi.”
