It was Uriel's first fight and he was already wounded and experiencing the symptoms of blood loss. For a minute he was tempted to cut his hunt short to recover and then try again another day with miss Dragonfang's help, but that meant abandoning his faithful Jaguar who was now running amok inside the vampire's nest.

Although his trait allowed Uriel to store the jaguar spirit inside the clay figurine whenever he wanted, it was only possible in close proximity which meant the jaguar was on its own until Uriel showed up.

Thankfully, in spite of the distance, Uriel was still able to feel the bond with the jaguar and it didn't seem to be in distress. On the contrary, it seemed excited and anxious to face the cryptid that nearly costed it its life inside the Alamo dungeon.

After catching his breath, Uriel stood up and looked at the aftermath of his own doing with a wry smile. There were several piles of ashes and the walls on the sides were cracked, but what bothered him was that he didn't get any flux orbs from despite his efforts.

He was more than satisfied with the performance of his new dagger, but he lamented being forced to crush the flux orbs inside the cryptids to kill them. For a minute he was tempted to pick up some of the remains of the wooden door and craft some wooden stakes out of it, but the fact that it broke so easily also meant it would be a lame weapon.

Besides, Uriel wasn't there to make money, but to kill a horror rank cryptid for the first time in his career as a hunter.

As Uriel advanced through the underground stone hallway, the building style became more refined and there were even some decorations. Uriel couldn't help but be impressed by the craftsmanship showcased by the cryptids. Had he not known who built it, he might have thought he was inside a medieval european castle.

It was both exciting and horrifying in equal measure and he wished his friends were by his side to share both his wonder and fear. Having Medusa by his side was always reassuring, while sharing his theories with Luna always gave him a new perspective on things and now there were so many things going through his head he almost forgot he was venturing into enemy territory.

Before opening the next door, Uriel already knew what was expecting him. Thanks to his mystical sense he knew there were many cryptids waiting in ambush, but there were no others paths to follow and he readied himself for battle.

He took the accustomed posture of a professional athlete and darted through the door with the help of dash, taking the cryptids by surprise even though they were the ones laying the trap and before the last remains of what used to be a door fell to the ground, the two cryptids awaiting for him were already turning into piles of ash.

This made taking care of the remaining five or so enemies way easier, not just because he thinned their numbers but also because, for some strange reason, his wounds healed completely and he felt less tired.

The vampires threw themselves at Uriel, who easily dispatched them with a precise stab to the heart leaving only the entity rank nosferatu who commanded them. It was a dangerous creature, but this time Uriel knew better than to look directly into its eyes.

The nosferatu attacked with it's long arm expecting Uriel to block it, but since he faced vampires before he was aware of how dangerous it was to do so. Breaking their bones would only result into a shifting the nosferatu's lunge into a whip. Instead of blocking, Uriel used the dagger to cut the arm in a clean slash, causing the entity rank nosferatu to shriek in pain and retreat.

"I'm not done with you!" Uriel said as he drew his revolver to shoot the creature down, but the couple bullets that reached the cryptid didn't pierce deep enough to reach its orb. To prevent the cryptid from calling for help, Uriel followed it with Dash still active but in spites of his best efforts, he wasn't catching up to it fast enough and he decided to throw the dagger.

The beautifully crafted dagger spun silently in the air, cutting through with with the same ease it did the cryptid's back. But that wasn't all because as soon as the entity rank nosferatu turned to ash the true nature of the weapon was revealed as a thin red thread drew Uriel's attention.

He followed it with his eyes, all the way from the pile of ash to his own hand and realized it wasn't made of any physical material, but rather flux energy. Thanks to his mystical sense, he was able to feel the flux energy flowing from the vanquished cryptid to his own body, replenishing his stamina and flux alike.

Uriel didn't miss the irony of him indirectly feeding off of a vampire, but his thoughts were cut short when after a soft pull the dagger flew back to him.

After admiring the dagger for a few seconds and thinking how much it honored its name, Uriel decided to move forward. The path ahead forked into several directions and even though he was able to sense the presence of his jaguar spirit, deciding with door to follow wasn't an easy task and in the end he went with a proverb he heard somewhere.

"If you're on the right path, it will always be uphill." Uriel muttered to himself as he opened the door which emitted the strongest flux energy signature. The room was filled to the brim with only monster rank nosferatus and without an entity rank cryptid to command them, they only responded with their instincts.

Some of them attempted to flee while others launched an attack with their advantage in numbers, only to be reduced to ashes in a few seconds. Following those who escaped was troublesome, but thanks to him killing so many vampires with his dagger he wasn't even tired. In fact, he felt completely refreshed as though he had the best night sleep of his life.

Unfortunately for Uriel, the tunnels were increasingly more convoluted as he advanced, forcing him to waste time into checking the doors one by one.

It was a dark maze built with the sole purpose of slowing invaders down and when Uriel realized this fact, he was able to relate it with his studies of medieval cities that used to be built to disorient invaders, not that it made any difference for him since he was using his jaguar spirit like a gps tracker.

The spirit's sense of smell allowed it to spot the horror rank nosferatu even though they were underground and as long as its bond with Uriel remained intact, the latter would be able to follow it wherever it went.

Of course, his clear speed was nothing compared to that of an enraged entity rank ancient cryptid that used to guard one of the most important dungeons in the world. But Uriel knew he would eventually catch up to it and continued his advance through the dark passages of the underground nest, though he didn't expect what happened next.

As he was readying himself to enter yet another room a loud roar echoed carrying a huge amount of flux energy with it. It sounded so powerful and ominous, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of cryptid was responsible for such a sound. Unfortunately for Uriel, he didn't have much time to ponder about those matters since the roar had the same effect pouring water on an anthill would.

Vampires of all levels started moving from place to place without any semblance of order, looking for whatever threat invaded their nest. Figuring it was too late to conceal his energy signature, Uriel decided to engage in combat taking advantage of the draining ability of his dagger.

Vampires didn't bother to dodge and threw themselves at Uriel, using their numbers as their weapon, managing to cause all sorts of flesh wounds to the hunter. At the same time, every vampire Uriel slayed returned a portion of the missing life force and allowed him to regenerate.

Granted, it wasn't nearly as fast as Water warlock's blessing, but it suited his fighting style and he not only managed to hold his ground against hordes of enemies, but he also advanced through the seemingly endless enemies until he finally reached what he assumed was the end of the way.

In front of him stood a sturdy iron gate taller than any of the cryptids he'd seen before, hinting the importance of whatever cryptid dwelled in the other side. Not just that, the gate itself was adorned with what Uriel identified as hunter skulls due to their unusual density.

However, the most evident clue that allowed Uriel to know he reached his goal was the gaping hole with a circumference that matched the size of a certain jaguar spirit Uriel let loose.
