Dual Cultivation God Returns-Chapter 776: It’s all about timing
Old Yen and Nie Guanting visited the inn that the Wu Family currently occupied only long after the binary sunset.
Simlarly to Kwon Qianhong, they both received praise from Wu Long for the work done prior to his arrival, and then reported to him in more detail.
Using the connection they made through Kwon Qianhong's scheme, they quickly gained access to the underbelly of the city. At this stage they were still at a very shallow level and thus their ability to operate was limited, but it was a good start.
"...we haven't been able to pick up the trail of the Forging Master by the name of Gao Lianjin. We couldn't probe thoroughly yet, since we don't want to alert anyone we're searching for the man, and with our level of access that's a big limiting factor, but there wasn't anything surface-level that would usually follow someone with exceptional skill", Old Yen concluded.
"Hmm", Wu Long rubbed his chin in thought, and then asked "...what about any of the Forging Masters currently famous in the Wei Dynasty?"
"There are a few among the big families Qian told you about, but I am afraid none of them could be called a 'genius' or particularly exceptional. They are simply very good compared to the rest", Old Yen shook his head with a regretful look.
"Alright, for now find out more about those five families, especially the houses of Kai and Shan", Wu Long nodded, not making any broad decisions since there wasn't much information yet, "What of the Rou Family?"
"I looked into it as soon as I received a communication message from Qian, and it seems the family's business..."
---
The two suns shone brightly in the skies above the city, reflecting in the ponds of a luxurious pavilion surrounded by a rather large garden, showing the prestige of the place in a city where every bit of space was precious.
"Elder Rou, just the man I was looking for", suddenly, a man came onto one of the numerous private terraces where a meeting took place between two parties, though only two people were seated at the table, each with one aid standing directly behind them, and several people at a distance.
The guards standing behind both sides instantly became alert, placing their hands on the handles of their swords.
"Wha-... who the hell are you?", one of those sitting turned to the entrance and asked with both confusion and exasperation, while the other only furrowed his eyebrows and had a displeased expression.
However, the guards standing to the sides of one of the two entrances, who moved to intercept the intruder, for some reason stopped dead in their tracks, the looks in their eyes becoming blank, with a light pink glow appearing from within their pupils.
"How kind of you to ask, my name is Wu Long", he walked right past them and grabbing one of the spare chairs standing to the side of the terrace, casually dragged it as he continued to walk to the table, "This name might not be familiar to you, but that doesn't mean it has nothing to do with you"
Wu Long placed the chair at the table with a light gesture, and sat down without scruples, facing only the man he talked to, leaving the other one to his side.
"I'm having an important meeting", the one Wu Long called Elder Rou was still confused, struggling to comprehend the sudden and utterly surreal situation.
"Yes", Wu Long nodded, "You see, your nephew - who just returned from a hunting trip yesterday - might run into some trouble if left unattended"
"...If it's about my nephew I will hear you out but not now", Elder Rou spoke, his tone finally gaining some steel in it as the reality of this all actually happening began to set in.
His posture changed slightly, leaning a little forward, as he also realized that his guards weren't just letting this man do what he wanted, but there was definitely something wrong.
"Ah, on the contrary. Time is important", however, Wu Long shook his head, still not looking at the other man sitting at the table, but pointing toward him with his thumb, "The official from the Trade Ministry here has an appointment with your rival Lien Family to catch soon, but of course you know that. You're in dispute over trade rights after all. What you didn't know, is that this guy was the one who approached them, not the other way arou-..."
"What nonsense!", the official interrupted, banging his hand on the table, his face reddening from fury, and turning to the side while raising his voice, "What are you idiots doing? And what kind of security does this establishment-..."
However, Elder Rou's raised hand stopped that tirade, as he intently looked into Wu Long's eyes, and then very slowly turned to the official with a hardening expression on his face, his jaws clenching.
"E-Elder Rou, d-don't listen to this... this... "
"You snake...", Elder Rou narrowed his eyes, hissing the words out with clear pauses in between them, "...you dare bite the hand that feeds you?"
"H-How can I even think of-... this is all a lie! A vicious smear!", the official's face was now slightly ashen as panic completely set in his eyes.
"Silence! Aren't you embarrassed to make these pathetic excuses when I can see the truth in your eyes? Scram! I don't wish to see your face even for a moment longer... and don't even think that this is the end of this, there will be consequences", Elder Rou's rage was incinerating and yet controlled, as his voice while showing emotion never rose that much.
The official staggered and tumbled from the chair, scrambling to stand up with the help of his aide and guards, hastily retreating from the terrace.
Elder Rou closed his eyes for just a moment, taking in a deep breath and then exhaling, the emotions in his eyes when they opened already completely under control as he turned back to Wu Long, "I suppose I must thank you, Mister... Wu, for allowing me to cut my losses at the very least, but forgive me if I am not so keen to be friendly considering the manner in which you did it"
His voice was serious and showed light notes of displeasure.
"I'll admit it wasn't the most elegant approach, but what works - works. People like you don't listen to those you consider not worth your time", Wu Long shrugged his shoulders, not changing the relaxed pose in which he sat.
Elder Rou's eyes were studying the mystery that appeared before him so suddenly. After a few moments, a light smirk curved one side of his mouth as some kind of acknowledgment appeared in his eyes.
His posture changed as he settled more comfortably back into his seat as well, signaling the guards who suddenly came to life again and appeared agitated by the situation to settle down with a relaxed waive of his hand.

"So, you wanted to discuss my nephew...", he spoke now in a more neutral tone, not without caution, but at least far less antagonistic for sure.
"That as well, but there's more to talk about", Wu Long smiled, "Shall we order some fresh wine?"
