Chapter 191: Chapter 191

Capital City...Alliance HQ...

"What did you say?" James shouted at the messenger, who just brought him the latest news regarding the disaster at the Last Bastion.

He was assigned to check with the updates personally as he and Aiden were friends, which was the reason why Aiden was in James office to talk about the dungeons.

It was because James had brought Aiden with him to the conference hall, the alliance was able to swiftly send preliminary reinforcements to contain the disaster, even eliminate it if possible.

Though they were hoping that Aiden and whatever group he can put in a short time, to eliminate the disaster, but they knew that was almost impossible.

Aiden and group were just preliminary inforcements, which would give them more time to put together troops without alerting the cults in order to help not just Last Bastion but also teh areas near them.

Even though the monster horde appeared at the Last Bastion, it was not guranteed that all monsters would be concentrating on the fort. Many could have slipped and be targetting the nearby towns and cities.

So, the alliance needs troops to stop the diaster or else the surrounding area would become the hunting ground for the monsters, and alliance would lose a large part of the land. Also, with the protection gone, the other regions near would face constant attacks from monsters, which is something the alliance can’t let happen.

If there were constant attacks, people would sooner or later desert those lands. This was the reason why there are many forts built during expansion.

The military fort at the forefront would take the brunt of the attacks, protecting the civilian lands behind it. Even though that was the case, the border region would still face a lot of dangers, which was why there won’t be many settlers in the borders.

This would be the case but this border region hasn’t seen a major war for over a century. After a decade of absence of heavy attacks from the monsters, the region developed quickly.

It is afterall a border reagion, which means, the ones who settle here can access the forests that border them. Forests means monsters, unexplored dungeons or even treasures.

The settlers would gain power quickly, which was the only reason why expansions started in the first place without failure, even though they faced many setbacks. No one would say no to resources just because of some small setbacks, but the situation at the moment is different.

James just learned that Fort Last Bastion was destroyed by the monster horde even before the hunters from the guild arrived there. They were only able to save ten members from the fort, and even among them three were crtically injured and can never fight again.

Even though trroops were relocated to other areas because of the cults, there were still two hundred awakeners, along with atleast a fifty mortals without any powers.

With only ten surviving, it means the alliance just lost two hundred and forty people, out of which one hundred and ninety are awakened. Among the survivors, three are useless in fights. There was not much information regarding the seven, but with so many dead, those seven should have been wounded enough to take rest for a long time.

In addition to the deaths, the fort was destroyed and along with it a lot of resources that were stored in the fort. The troops were relocated, the resources weren’t removed from the fort as the relocation was only temporary.

"Those damn cults, if not for them, there would have been more troops stationed at the fort and it wouldn’t have been destroyed, nor there would have been this many casualties", James cursed out loudly.

If not for the abnormal attacks from the cults, the troops wouldn’t have been relocated elsewhere. This relocation was supposed to be temporary. As soon as the cult locations were found, and after the alliance has eliminated them in high numbers, they would have been sent back to their original posts.

Even though the fort was not assaulted by a large horde in a century, there were small-scale attacks every now and then. So, the alliance always maintained the fort in order to keep the peace of the civilian lands.

Maintaining the fort and keeping peace not just requires humans but also resources like food and other things that are required for the survival and the improvement of the soldiers stationed there.

Now with the fall of the fort, all those resources are lost.

The only good thing that James learned was that the fort was reclaimed and the monsters eliminated. There are a few monsters that escaped but the high ranking monsters were completely eliminated.

The message also mentioned that a Rank-8 Lightning Ape monster commanded the horde, while the present commander of the fort was at only early Rank-7.

Aiden eliminated that Rank-8 monster, while the escaped ones were being hunted down one by one, as long as they were still in the alliance lands. If they have escaped outside, Aiden has ordered them not to venture as he feels that the border forests have suddenly become dangerous. He didn’t want to lose his men just as the alliance did.

"No wonder the fort fell so quickly but why is a Rank-8 monster acting...wait a minute, don’t tell me...", James thought something terrifying, and if his thoughts were true, then the dangers that they would face in the coming days would be something that they had never faced before.

James grabbed the message, "Don’t spread the message to anyone. I need to talk to the president", he said as he disappeared from the room.

If what he though is happening, then it is way above his pay grade. Only the president of the alliance can decide on such matters.

---

A lot of changes are going to occur in the alliance in the coming days, changes that no one has anticipated. These changes can make the alliance rise to the top or fall, depending on how they were executed.
