D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad-Chapter 1788 - Rock the Jail Part 3
--- Kat ---
Kat took a startled step backwards as a wave of intense and focused light travelled upwards along the barrier. It played out across all of the barrier walls and collided at the top… to no real effect. Kat had been worried it was about to explode or something. "What was that?" hissed Kat.
"Hmm… someone is messing with the wards… what were the prisoners doing in your wing when you left?" asked Nixilei.
"Um… well they were escaping? Someone had a key for some reason and after a bit of discussion we just left them to it," explained Kat.
"Seems they released someone that can mess with the wards…" mumbled Nixilei. "I doubt they've found the wardstone, or the metal that's being used as the energy sink. If they'd found either it would be simple to just break them and bring the whole thing down. At the same time… hmm… yeah someone is clearly messing with it,"
"Should we do something about that?" asked Kat.
"Probably nothing more than get ready for the fight to come. Not sure if they'll actually be able to take it down or not. Personally, I'd be willing to bet that the barrier comes down because the other side got antsy rather then the sabotage working," explained Nixilei.
"Why?" asked Kat.
"Too much of a risk. It's hard to know exactly what the idiots down below are doing to the wards and-" Nixilei's explanation was cut off halfway through as the shield simply disappeared. The glowing lights seemed to linger for a split second before a figure flew through them, dispersing the remnants and heading straight to Nixilei.
Kat stepped in front of the figure and tried to hit back. They simply flipped forward a bit and launched themselves off Kat's arm, allowing them to fly over her and land cleanly. Kress kicked Green awake who swept Gareth up into her arms and dashed away all in one motion. Kress launched himself up onto the roof while Nixilei disappeared somewhere, Lily in hand.
Wait… when did Nixilei pick Lily up? Clearly I wasn't paying enough attention… but it's probably for the best. Also… who is this? Are they Shifty, Shitty, or Stylish? It was never made clear what they're real names were nor what they actually look like. Kat genuinely wasn't sure. Before her stood a male elf with a big smug smile on their face that looked a little too large to be natural. They had slicked back hair and hadn't bothered with a helmet and their rather squinted eyes made it seem like they were hiding something.
But they were a set of spectacular armour. It was a gambeson with a bits of plate in a few areas to provide extra covers. Some armguards, a chest plate just for the heart and a set of leg guards and heavy boots. The gambeson was made out of some sort of glowing golden material while the metal looked like flowing silver. It seemed to be shifting as Kat looked at it and the with a few vine like designs made out of a blue something that creeped around the armour.
His hair was a soft silky looking gold, and his eyes were bright green and almost seemed to glow. While he didn't have a proper helmet he did have a circlet around his forehead with a small gems of different colours running around it. Kat was guessing it, and the rest of the armour were heavily enchanted. Though… where was his weapon? He wasn't carrying anything but his hands were free and ungloved.
All of this meant… there was a decent chance this was 'Stylish' but Kat wasn't going to commit to that answer just yet. All the other guards were staying at their posts for now and he was ignoring the others. His eyes hadn't left Kat's just yet… but it seemed like he was waiting for something?
Kat got her answer when the area around her was suddenly turned into a blaze. Kat was VERY thankful in that moment that Lily had been grabbed by Nixilei because Kat could actually feel the heat from this fire. Though she hadn't seen… she was going to go with Smug for now until she found out which elf he actually was. Anyway, Smug hadn't cast any spells so… backup?
When the fire finally cleared and revealed that Kat was the Smug elf clicked his tongue and growled out. "I see you are a resilient one. No respect for our laws because of your brutish strength I assume,"
Kat already wanted to punch him. Perhaps this was 'shitty' then? "Ha! No respect for your laws? I willingly agreed to be detained on ridiculous charges to ensure that things didn't escalate but NO you guys decided to jail my friends. One was tortured and the other… well… technically that was torture as well," Kat decided not to mention that the real torture was Gareth's situation. Probably best not to bring attention to Nixilei's actions.
"And that gives you the right to just destroy our jail?" asked Smug.
Kat shrugged, "I can't find it in myself to care. It's not like it's early in the morning. If you guys actually cared for justice I'd expect someone to come and fix it before I got here. I waited, mulling this all over for HOURS and its nearly night time. The fact that they were still stuck in their was proof enough,"
"It seems we'll need to ensure that you're locked up more securely this time," said Smug. Kat raised her eyes at the 'we'. Sure she suspected there was someone else around but nice of him to confirm it.
Smug charged forward and as he did a rapier appeared in a flash. He was pretty fast, and was soon stabbing out at Kat. Leaning to the side, Kat was about to dodge when a chunk of earth raised up in arc around her leaving only one exit. Kat frowned at that but changed her plans. She readied herself as Smug stabbed at her. Kat shifted a bit so it missed her heart as the sword drove its way into her chest.
Kat was waiting for it, and slammed a fist into this guy's smug face…. Only to collide with an invisible helmet of some kind. One of the gems on his circlet popped as Kat's hand was forced back. Smug was grinning now as the rapier disappeared from one hand then appeared in the other, this one now aiming for her eye. Kat wasn't quite willing to risk a headshot and transformed.

Her watery form flowed around Smug and tried to suffocate him along the way but he didn't seem faced at all. Sure he was swiping through the water with his rapier but there was no panic in his eyes. Kat didn't mind hanging around to test it… until a fireball flew around the arc and beelined right onto her. Kat felt some of her water start to boil but it wasn't painful or anything just a bit costly on the demonic energy side of things.
Kat reformed herself behind Smug and lashed out with a kick, sending him flying through the dirt wall. Kat frowned as she glanced down at her foot. It didn't really FEEL like she'd connected with him, just that she'd hit something. *Hmm… must have some sort of magical barrier around him. I wonder if the dirt was always that light or if his companion made it softer at some point?*
Kat winced a moment later when, looking downwards she saw that her leg had been cut at some point. Hmm… I didn't see him doing that. This… could be harder then I thought. His armour and magic shield combined makes it hard to know how hard to hit him. Casual strikes obviously aren't going to do much but I've got no good idea of how much it can take. If I slam him hard enough for the shield to pop am I going to pulp his organs? Would a bunch of little attacks work? It's hard to say…
I also need to work out where the other attacker is. I'm guessing they can either see through Smug's armour or have some of spell that lets them view things at a distance and I'm not sure which is worse. Hmm… what is the maximum range a spell can be cast at? If the answer is 'quite far away' then they could be on the other side of the city. And is there one or two people? A fire and an earth mage or one person who can manage both?
Kat wiped away the blood on her leg to see that the wound had already healed. Expected, but after getting caught off guard a few times it was best to check just in case. While she did this, Smug had already gotten back to his feet and he still had a big smirk on his face. Clearly he thought he still had the upper hand here for some reason… and that's a very real worry.
