D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad-Chapter 1783 - Decisions Decisions
--- Kat ---
Kat played one last round of Piano Man as she strode out of her cell without a care in the world. There was an amusing mix of cheers and boos that followed her out of the front door but that didn't mean she was going to stop. Poison escorted her the whole way, smiling with… sharpened teeth? Kat hadn't noticed that detail back in the cell and was tempted to ask but she didn't want to stop the song to do so.
Once she was outside Poison saluted her and jogged off, robbing Kat of the chance to figure out why it looked like Poison had something like shark teeth in her elven mouth but… well it probably wasn't that important. Kat kept blasting out the tune until she was finished the song and then took to the sky. It might not be as fast as running… or maybe it was. Kat hadn't exactly timed herself but she was able to zoom down the road flying above it, soon passing Poison and getting to the bridge.
Kat hovered there for a moment before one of the guards waved her on. Kat waved back and starting to quickly build speed as she passed over the bridge. It wasn't raining anymore, which was nice and she could simply enjoy the air flowing through her hair as she sped across the ground. It was nice not having to dodge and weave around the various travellers, simply head straight on.
It also gave her more time to examine… whatever it was she wanted to do. Poison had been pretty blunt in her recommendations to just start knocking heads together and it was so, so very tempting to just go along with it. Her friends were suffering. Or well, Gareth was suffering, Nixilei was inflicting suffering, Kress was probably a bit cranky and it was basically just a normal morning for Green.
Which yeah… took a bit of the wind out of her sails. Then there was the fact that she didn't want to take on the whole garrison. She didn't have a great way to non-lethally subdue a bunch of chaff. Her demonic fire was either lethal, or completely ineffective because she had no practice with reigning it in. It either hurt people A LOT or avoided them because they were friends and the guards were certainly not friends. Well, not the city guards anyway.
*Urgh. I don't know what to do Lily. For some reason I feel like Poison wasn't lying. Not in the 'I think they're not lying' way but in the 'I know they're not lying' type of way. Which is weird and I don't know WHY I feel like it but I'm damn near certain she simply told it how she sees it. She might be wrong, but she wasn't lying.*

[Well there's an obvious answer to that. Can your eyes tell if people are lying now?]
*I've got no idea. I suppose we can test it? Though how are we going to? I doubt it works over mental communication because I can already tell when you're lying on account of being able to see your thoughts. Plus, aren't you a little stuck inside of the jail at the moment?*
[Not… stuck per say but I wasn't planning to leave until the lockdown ends. I'm currently alternating between watching Gareth fail to sleep and Nixilei. Did you know there's a spell for removing excess blood? Because there is and Nixilei used it… to send all the blood flying away from her and just coating the walls. I feel sort of bad because there's more than one boxy cell in the ground near her. At least they're empty for now…]
*Ok… so I don't have a good way to test this because I can't just ask a random person to lie to me and know what that means. So I'm probably going to have to march into town and do whatever I think is best… and I really don't know what that is. We've been trying to keep things from escalating and it feels wrong to throw that all away.*
[Hey, don't get caught up in the sunk cost fallacy. If people need a wake up call they need a wake up call. Though… I do admit this is one of those 'can't put the genie back in the bottle' situations. If you start cracking skulls and then someone important shows up you can't just respond with 'Teehee, I did a little violence'. No, it's going to escalate further… well unless the two Ladies of the town show up and say you're in the right or Thyme finishes up with whatever they're doing… but there's not certainty of that.]
*Urgh. If Gareth was able to get some proper rest I'd probably just argue for letting things go. It's not ideal, and I'd be down for some revenge afterwards… but if Gareth can't sleep for a few days after running through the night then we're going to have issues. Regardless of what the challenges are, unless it's another big drawn out thing Gareth could be a massive dead weight on the first few days. Not that I want to think of him that way and it's not his fault… but well you know.*
[I don't think Gareth would mind you saying that. He's practical enough to realise that being exhausted will make him a dead weight regardless of his skill… and the team knows you do a lot of the work even with the limiters anyway.]
*Rude. I didn't exactly carry the team through the previous rounds.*
[Eh, technically no but you DID do exceptionally well last time, and heck, even I did pretty well in that final event. It was… nice to show that I can stand with the rest of them. I maybe could've won if I was a bit smarter about things too. Though… the other two rounds were much more in your favour, even the teamwork one.]
*Maybe. That's getting off topic though. Do you think I should just start causing issues? And if I AM beating people up should you free everyone first, or like around the time I start to make some noise? It would be super awkward if someone got taken hostage or something like that. I'm not sure what I'd need to do in response. I still don't have a great ranged attack, especially not without my flames.*
[Hmm, maybe if you're lucky you're Rank 4 ability will be something that helps with that?]
*Still haven't got a clue… but once again. You're dodging the question. What do you think of me fighting, and of you rescuing the others?*
[Urgh, I really don't want the pressure of deciding if it's right to attack or not… but I do agree that it would be best to make sure everyone is freed IF you are going to attack. I'll probably start with Nixilei because she's the most restrained and then get Green because she's the closest after Nixilei before heading over to the boys? Hmm… but they can't move between cell blocks easily. Ok this might be harder then I thought…]
*Why is that?*
[Well… if I break out either the boys or the girls we then have to GET to the other two. I could probably free everyone inside of five minutes but then the guards will know for sure and I'm not certain how long it would take to meet up. I suppose it would depend on how hard it is for me to claw through the walls or fight all the guards. I suspect the enchantments add durability to the walls and empower the guards but that's just a guess.]
*Wait… how much of a risk is it?*
[I'm starting to think it's actually a rather major one. I have no idea how to test the strength of the wards without setting them off and I'm not sure if I'll get spotted should I transform to ask Nixilei or Green. Freeing Nixilei is probably still worth it because she can't really fight back other than freaking people out. I'm just not sure what the plan would be after that.]
[The real issue is that they KNOW we're all in a group at this point so if they want to take hostages they certainly can. You might want to beeline straight for the jail and bust them out yourself, or well pick one of the genders, bust them out and I'll do the same when you start the attack for real? I don't love the idea. Especially with how much property damage it will do alongside the risk that someone gets the ceiling dropped on them… but they'll probably live? Though hang on… what about the other prisoners?]
*What about them?*
[Well I trust that all the guards are at least Rank 1 with good defensive armour. The criminals are not certain to have that. Heck, some of them might be mortals and a good chunk of stone will be quite fatal to them.]
*Ah… that does complicate things…*
