47: Chapter 33 Racing

47 -33 Racing

Take charge of the situation?

That would naturally be me, Farosa thought with a smile.

She found the idea amusing.

Now she finally had the opportunity to give orders to this little group.

In her opinion, they should have long since heeded her insights, for a witch’s leadership was naturally far superior to those of mere mortals.

“I understand,” Farosa said with a smile, “I…”

“Kanako.” Xu Yang glanced at the idle Kanako, who suddenly looked up.

“What?” Kanako asked, puzzled.

“From now on, you’ll follow Kanako’s orders.

Kanako is in charge.

Our safety, our future, everything depends on her decisions,” Xu Yang leaned back and lay down on the operating chair of the automated doctor.

The answer was obvious, it had to be Kanako.

Xu Yang was not a fool; he knew Farosa was definitely a selfish spirit who would slip away on her own when real danger struck, regardless of the team’s life or death.

Lila’s current behavioral pattern was similar to artificial intelligence, indeed wise, but having just revived, the stability of her consciousness chip could not be guaranteed.

There was no need to even mention Nidelaide, a rather quiet, passive fellow, not suited for leading the team.

In contrast, although sometimes Kanako seemed indifferent to everything, her potential was immense.

“Hey—” Kanako exclaimed when she heard this, “This is too much!

It’s too troublesome!

I don’t want to!”

Cui Junyou shrugged and pressed the execution button on the automated doctor.

The cabin door closed, and a mechanical arm inserted a semi-transparent syringe into Xu Yang’s upper arm.

A heavy numbness swept over him.

He let himself sink into it, as if in a dream.

Kanako turned to look at everyone.

Their gazes made her very uncomfortable.

“Why me?” she stuttered.

“Xu Yang must be mistaken, I, how can I issue orders?

We’ve all just met; how can I expect you to do this and that?”

“Xu Yang said those things before he accepted the anesthetic,” Cui Junyou consoled her.

Kanako reminded him of his daughter, “He must have his reasons for saying that.”

“How, how long before he wakes up?” Kanako was nearly in tears.

“I don’t know,” Cui Junyou muttered, “I have to operate on him, he’ll be woken up after I’m done.”

“The operation?

How long will that take?” Kanako felt everyone staring at her, making her very uncomfortable.

“That’s uncertain,” Cui Junyou shook his head, “and right now, that’s not the point.

It’s those things outside.”

Kanako walked quickly to the window of the Shuttle Machine, her face pressed against the glass to look out.

Sharp, yellow eyes appeared pairs in the darkness; numerous Ratmen had noticed the presence of the Shuttle Machine and were staring intently at it.

At some point, the excavation site had already been surrounded by Ratmen.

Being violently pounded by Ratmen, being dug out and killed!

The terrifying images struck Kanako again.

“This is so troublesome, so troublesome,” Kanako repeated hollowly, “How can I do such a thing, giving orders to everyone, escaping from Ratmen, why does it have to be me…”

“Let me do it.” Farosa’s tone was cold and sharp, as if shattering a piece of glass on the ground, “You’re too young.”

This tone made Kanako feel nauseous.

She had always seen Farosa as a friend, and it was particularly distressing when Farosa showed her cold side.

The commotion made Nidelaide uncomfortable, and he looked down, pulling out his phone to enjoy the anime beauties in his gallery collection.

“I’m going to get out and collect my things,” Farosa glanced at the entrance to the underground mausoleum.

There, she could still collect some precious funerary items to take back and play with.

She still cherished the collections from the dukes’ and kings’ treasuries, even though they were covered with a thousand years of dust.

A roar came from afar.

The excavation site began to quake, with clumps of earth and grains of sand falling from above, and the remnants of ruined buildings buzzing.

The roar echoed, the surrounding Ratmen became doubly agitated, and they started howling one after another.

Sharp cries of Rats kept coming from all directions, and with a ground-shaking tremor, something huge seemed to emerge from the darkness.

“Roar—” the unnamed giant creature let out a deep and resonant roar, and the other Ratmen immediately surged forward like their spirit had been ignited, crazily rushing toward the Shuttle Machine.

“Squeak, squeak, squeak—”

“Aooh—”

“Gaaah—”

“Kill—kill!” The Ratmen were maniacal.

Kanako saw them swiftly approaching.

The eyes of the Rat horde glimmered eerily in the darkness, like a swath of twinkling spots, surging from the deepest and darkest reaches of the underground, towards an artificial vessel infused with countless technologies, like a swarm of insects drawn to a flame.

Eager to submerge it.

Kanako’s pressure—exploded.

“Let’s go!” Kanako shouted, “To Number 26 Highland!”

In this game called “Life,” if you lose, you die!

So I cannot lose!

“Roger that.” Lila emitted an electronic sound.

The engines of the Shuttle Machine instantly operated at full capacity, the machine turned direction, vast amounts of airflow were expelled, blasting a few Ratmen that were too close.

Whoosh—

The Shuttle Machine’s speed soared immediately, yet the machine was incredibly stable.

Thanks to the advanced balancing device, there was no inertia felt inside, and passengers felt as though they were on solid ground, watching the tide of Ratmen being rapidly left behind.

“I don’t know where this Number 26 Highland you speak of is,” Farosa hurriedly said, “But we must stop at the springs, probably called ‘Suzuki Springs.’ I have important items to retrieve.”

“No.” Kanako pressed one hand against the glass, looking up as if trying to see through the Shuttle Machine’s casing to the grand buildings above, “Let’s head back to the surface!

Underground is not safe.”

“…Kanako.” Farosa put on a pitiable look.

“Please, I need to get to Suzuki Springs.

I’ve been there with Xu Yang before, and there is something extremely important to me.”

“Nothing is more important than our lives,” Kanako was more resolute than ever, “Xu Yang ordered me here, so I am responsible for your safety and future.

If the Shuttle Machine is surrounded by Ratmen, we are certain to die.”

“No, not personal possessions.” Farosa hurriedly said, Kanako had changed so drastically it was unnerving, “It’s Magic Power bestowed by gods.

There, I can draw from the source of power again.

Once I have recovered my power, no number of rats will be a concern, and I will defeat them all!”

“How long do you need?” Kanako was tempted.

Farosa had given her a great impression – if Farosa could recover her former glory, perhaps they could really turn the tide.

“Very fast, just twenty minutes,” said Farosa.

Maybe one hour, two hours, it doesn’t matter.

These people had best buy me some time.

If they die, I can just revive them later.

“Large rodent approaching detected.” Lila issued a warning. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Kanako looked outside, a sight she would never forget in her lifetime.

A Rodent Beast of unprecedented size was running alongside the Shuttle Machine at breakneck speed!

This was the true form of the creature that had emerged from the ground earlier, the Rodent Beast, the leader of all rats.

It was at least thirty feet long, a complete monster, its body studded with compound pumps and electrodes, muscles knotted, impervious to blade and gun, with electricity arcs occasionally exploding from its fur, illuminating its grotesque shape.

Despite its large size, it was no slower, impossible to shake off.

It carried a dozen or so fierce, robust Black-Furred Ratmen on its back – these were much more vicious than their average kin, treating the Giant Rat as a mobile fortress.

They picked up their firearms and began shooting at the Shuttle Machine.

Bang—Bang—

Bullets fell on the metal casing of the Shuttle Machine, and Kanako heard a continuous stream of metal collisions, as though the bullets were being deflected.

Thankfully, the Shuttle Machine’s protection…

“Shielding capacity down by 2%,” reported Lila while driving, “if we do not clear the enemy gunmen, we risk paralysis.”

If this goes on…

“That’s terrifying.” Cui Junyou, not daring to linger outside, felt his nerves stretched to their limits as he tapped rapidly on the panel, activating the automatic doctor, and locked himself inside, switching to internal operation mode to perform surgery on Xu Yang.

In the past, when Xu Yang was awake and directing, rats were never a fear, everything seemed easily solvable, but now, Cui Junyou felt unprecedented pressure.

Farosa’s face fluctuated between worry and resignation; her two Witch’s Powers could each be used once more at most.

Only coffee could replenish a bit, but even its stimulating effects are not limitless.

Now she was on edge, desperately wanting to rest.

If she wasted her precious magic on these vermin, that would be such a waste.

“Doesn’t this Shuttle Machine have weapons?” Kanako demanded, “I see lots of places here that could hold magazines!”

“According to the internal log, it was equipped with weapons when it left the factory, but they were deliberately removed for infiltration purposes,” reported Lila.

Ding ding dang—Another series of bullets hit the Shuttle Machine’s casing like the Grim Reaper knocking on the door.

“Are you waiting to die?

I am certainly not going to wait to die with you!” Farosa became agitated as she clenched her right fist, ready for Life Annihilation.

Kanako, looking out the window at the Giant Rat running as fast as her own Shuttle Machine, felt a sense of déjà vu.

It felt so familiar, this situation, so incredibly familiar.

Where have I encountered something exactly like this before?

Right, isn’t it just like a racing game?

It’s a classic scenario in racing games, where your car is fast, but the opponent’s car is just as fast, which keeps you neck and neck.

And they use items to create obstacles.

In such a situation, how can you overtake the opponent?

There’s only one answer.

Kanako clenched her teeth.

She rushed to the automatic doctor’s door and banged fiercely: “Old man!

Secure Xu Yang tightly!”

“Secure what tightly?” Cui Junyou was puzzled.

Kanako didn’t have time to explain; turning towards the Shuttle Machine’s control panel, she ordered Lila: “Hit it!”

“Hit it?” Lila needed confirmation a second time.

“Isn’t this thing very sturdy?” Kanako bellowed, “Hit it!

Slam into it!

Overturn it!”

Farosa turned pale, probably guessing what was about to happen.

She immediately took a seat in the passenger area, gripping the armrest firmly.

“Understood,” Lila acknowledged the command.

Then, the Shuttle Machine changed direction and viciously slammed into the Giant Rat running alongside!

“Squeak—”

“Squeak squeak?!” The Ratmen on the Giant Rat’s back who had been happily shooting at the Shuttle Machine were suddenly petrified by its move.

The Shuttle Machine, like a black halberd, struck violently against the Giant Rat’s flank at high speed!

Boom!

The sound of metal colliding with flesh exploded!

In an instant, the Shuttle Machine’s front windshield was smeared with fresh blood!

The Giant Rat let out a piercing scream as its massive body capsized, crushing several Ratmen on its back into a pulp before they could flee.

The Shuttle Machine’s sharp change of direction and fierce ramming sent it rolling away underground until it reached the shadowy rock wall in the distance.

Seeing the Giant Rat struck and flying away, a harmonized wail of despair emanated from the horde of rats behind.

A wail of despair—condensing countless pains and unwillingness into mournful cries!
