Claimed By A Dragon Prince-Chapter 55: Preparing to Depart
Chapter 55: Preparing to Depart
It was the day that Lily was leaving to find out what was causing the toxic slug to spread and cause immeasurable damage to the lands. After recent events, it was paramount that the problem with the Dragon moss be solved so life would come back to the rivers. Lily had triple-checked her pack, making sure she had everything needed to conduct her experiments.
Sitting in her room trying to have her last meal with Trinee, she felt a bit lonely since Dimitri had to attend to some matters this morning with his father. Taking a sip of her tea Trinee explained her results from the fish tank Liloy pointed out on her first day. "So the seaweed is finally the right color, and taking your advise I made sure not to mess with the pH again and let nature take its course. Lily, are you alright? You know you don’t have to go alone. I can go with you if you like. Most of my experiments are wrapped up and..."
Lily lifted her head hearing Trinee speak then shook her head. "No that’s alright. I know you have a few things here to take care of before you come to meet up with me, and I am actually looking forward to the trip. I have only gone as far as the edge of wolf clan territory because of all the rumors. I’ve wondered if that was where the darkling dragons originally came from."
Taking a bite of a scone Trinee thought about this too since the darkling attacks started almost 30 years ago now. No one could find their nest so several trackers were sent out to find it. The Dragon King has lost a few good people to those dragons killing with out prejudice or mercy. They inflicted as much damage as possible and then ran before help arrived. The death toll has been stacking up and the citizens are starting to become more skittish about traveling.
"You might be on to something there. Have you spoken with Prof. Magnus about this? He and the king have been the ones to handle assignments and reports on the darkling dragons. Apparently Prof. Magnus has been tracking their movements for a while. He thinks someone is controlling them."
Lily thought about how her father and mother both couldn’t tell her when or how the darkling dragons showed up, only that they started appearing 30 years ago. She almost thought it might have been Vestis since he would benefit greatly from the Dragon Clans discord, but if was before he came to this world. Sighing in frustration Lily takes a bite of fruit tossing the possibilities around in her mind.
Just then Dimitri walks in moving to the sitting area where is mate and Trinee were sitting. "Ready to go?" He leaned down kissing Lily before sitting next to her. "Yes, I am packed and ready to go. You look like your in a good mood, any thing to share, my love?"
"I just receive special permission from the King to accompany you. It will be faster to fly you and there won’t be as many hang ups for travel passes if I come with you." Lily looked at him shocked then smiled happy she wouldn’t be separated from him. She had grown attached to his closeness finding herself stopping by his office just to see his face.
"Really? That’s great! Trinee can join us once she had finished her reports. Am I right about that? I just assumed." Trinee nodded a scone half hanging from her mouth. "Yup, I have a stack a mile high so I’ll be busy for a week or two. I’m hoping to finish in a week so I can meet up."
Dimitri nodded hearing this as he watched his mate curious about what she planned to look at when they reached the forbidden territory. The source of the toxic slug was still a mystery one that even the best researchers and trackers couldn’t find. But Lily was the conventional researcher from everything he read of hers. From the notes he read to speaking with his uncle Lily had a mind to think outside the box with problems.
Hopefully this would be something she could solve since the people in several Clans would benefit from stopping this problem. The death rate of plants as well as animal life leaving certain areas had people wondering if there would be a future ahead. "I can’t promise anything until we get there and start looking for the problem. The last place I went to before coming here was the edge of wolf clan territory and I only found small clues there to give me a direction."
"Well, we are not finding the solution here. We should get going if we are to make any head way with this issue. Trinee I am giving you a key to Lily’s lab. If you need to hide there for any reason, do it. They won’t check there." Dimitri told Trinee handing her a key that she attached to a necklace that had two other keys too. "You think someone might come after me?"
"Yes, and it won’t be the person you think, but I want to make sure your safe." Trinee nodded again tucking the necklace back in her shirt for safe keeping. "There’s plenty of food in there growing. I always get hungry so I made sure to grow a few plants to eat if I needed to."
Trinee hugged Lily greatful to have a friend who though like she did and knew better then to trust the castle kitchens. That Dragon queen could kill anyone and get away with it. It was good to know a back up source of food was near by her lab. "I will keep that in mind. Now you two should get going."
"Don’t you need to pack anything?" Lily asked him. "I have a pack ready to go by the door. So let us be off." They stood ready to leave, Lily swinging her big back on her back as Dimitri grabbed his. Trinee followed them out as Dimitri locked the door. They we heading out on a new adventure hopefully to find and eradicate a problem that effected more then just one Clan. Together with her mate, Lily knew she would find the answer.
