Chapter 51: Solitifying the Truth

The next few weeks were a whole new experience for Artemis. She had never been around too many other gods for fear that she would be taken or used against her will. No, Magnus was purely interested in who she was, which made her feel cherished. But her brother always had a way of stepping in and ruining the moment for them.

He constantly told her to make Magnus leave and she always brushed him off because she wanted to know her own mind and wanted to learn. Most of the time before Magnus showed up she would work on her garden or study with her tutor until she felt like doing something else. It was a very mundane life and she wished to change that.

Magnus spoke of the skies above and how the ground belove was like a beautiful tapestry showcasing nature and people in their elements. Artemis wanted to see this very badly so one night after everyone had gone to bed she snuck over to Magnus’s room slipping in quietly. Gliding silently over to his bed she saw him sleeping soundly his chest rising and falling.

Lightly tapping him on the shoulder his eyes snapped open looking around and landing on her as he relaxed. "What are you doing here? It is very late." "I wish to see the skies like you told me about. I have never left this Pavilion and I have wanted to see whats beyond this place for some time now. Would you show me?" Artemis knew she was taking a very big risk by asking him this.

Magnus was surprised she was even in his room let alone asking him to take her on moon-light flight. He had wanted to take her too, but that pest of a brother of hers made it impossible to ask. Now here she was dressed and ready for a chance to see the world on the back of a dragon. Magnus sat up inches from her face seeing the anxious look that drove him crazy.

"You want to go right now?" Artemis nodded as he got up rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Alright, give me a minute." She almost squealed with excitement but held herself back as he gathered a couple of things and slipped a robe on then handed her a pack.

She looked at him confused as he chuckled. "I’ll need you to carry my clothes once I change into dragon form." A big "Oh" formed her mouth as she felt kind of dumb not thinking about that.

He took her hand leading her outside to a secluded area of the gardens. Finding an open area he handed her his robe as he walked to the center. "Stay here. I don’t want to step on you." She nodded staying planted in the spot. As he walked his body began to change, scales appearing on his skin as his body and head stretched into the body of a beautiful blue dragon that filled the open meadow.

He was the most magnificent creature she had ever seen, the way his scales shined in the moonlight. The dragon leaned his head down to her as she moved up close her hands lightly gliding over his face and ears tracing them. "Wow, your dragon is beautiful. I am glad I got the chance to see it without the blood." She smiled at him as he nudged her to get on his back.

Grabbing his pants on the way to his neck she swung the pack on her back climbing up. Setting in just behind his neck she held on to the nearest horn as Magnus jumped into the air his wings stretching out to catch the wind. Artemis’s breath left her lungs in a rush, but she quickly recovered holding on to his neck tightly eyes shut.

Magnus worked into a steady glide moving with the jet streams of air around him. Feeling him level out Artemis looks up to see the clouds at her finger tips. Laughing she sticks her had out feeling the moisture of the cloud pass over her skin. Looking forward the stars were just out of reach, but close enough to make her think she could take one.

Magnus could feel the joy coming off her as he glided through the air giving her something only he could. Pulling his wings back to hover for a minute Artemis could see the tapestry he spoke of all the natural elements in their natural states. It was a sight to behold one she never though to see ever in her life. This man was giving her so many things, so many experiences that she didn’t want to spend them with anyone else.

She knew it would hurt her brother, but she wanted to choose something for herself for once. Artemis leaned in hugging his neck grateful he showed her this sight. He moved to a familiar place he knew landing in an open field the snow freshly fallen. Artemis slipped off as he shifted back she handed him the clothes from in the pack. Pulling out the boots he slipped them on too as he looped her arm in his showing her the town below.

Getting closer she could see all the people and creatures running around as if some kind of celebration was happening. "What are they celebrating?" Magnus just smiled tapping her hand as they walked into the crowds seeing all the festivities take place. Moving to the center of city they see more dragons dancing and cheering having a wonderful time.

The crowd parted and Artemis could see a huge sculpture of a dragon that looked exactly like Magnus. The detail said it all this was his people and they worshiped him. Artemis wondered what all he had to do for others to recognize him that way. "Welcome to the Dragon Clan festival. I thought you might like to see this."

Artemis was so touched by his thoughtfulness that she forgot her self for a moment and leaned in kissing him passionately. Magnus was so shocked by her action he froze for a moment then gave in to the need inside his heart. From the moment he saw her kneeling down to help him he knew she would be his saving grace.
