Chapter 29: A Trip into the City

Lily went right to work the next week gathering materials for the expedition and helping Trinee in her lab to finish some of her experiments. One of them was fixing the pH in the tank she spotted on her first day. Apparently, they had been taken from the ocean versus the river to see what effects the toxic slug had.

Lily could see that the salt water was keeping the slug weighed down, but the fish still wouldn’t eat the algae. After a week of filtering the water from the bottom of the tank to pull out the slug, the fish finally began nibbling on the seaweed improving their overall health. The only thing was that once the slug filtered out it disappeared before samples could be taken.

Lily and Trinee were both flabbergasted by this having very little idea of what might cause the slug to just up and disintegrate. Lily thought I was exposed to open air and Trinee thought there might be another component causing the disintegration. "We are leaving straight after the Winter Solstice Ball. This problem is driving me crazy! If one more experiment fails I sear...." Trinee’s burst of frustration finally hit after one of her other experiments died.

"Let’s call it for today. I need a few things in the city and you need a break. Come on we’ll try again tomorrow." Lily encouraged Trinee who nodded cleaning up the mess she made. "Yeah, I haven’t seen my family in a while and I promised to visit at least once a month. Come on I knw they are going to love you."

Lily smiled hearing this glad to know her new friend had good people in her life. "Alright let me get changed..." "Baah! Don’t worry about it. Keeping a low profile is a good thing, trust me you don’t want to draw too much attention once in the city." Lily looked at her friend curiously waiting for her to elaborate. "Most haven’t heard of Prince Dimitri’s mating yet. You told me he wanted to announce your mating at the Ball, right?"

Lily considered her words realizing they may try to flock to her or sell her things she didn’t want or need being one of the royal family now. "Good point. Let me just change my coats out then." She walked out of the lab exchanging coats just as Trinee did hers. Grabbing her money pouch from her lab they headed out after locking up.

They headed to one of the open fields outside so Trinee could shift and fly them down to the city. Trinee pulled off her dress handing it to Lily then started to shift. Lily quickly folded it tucking the dress under her arm watching as her friend shifted into a beautiful green dragon. About half the size of Dimitri, but no less gorgeous. There was enough room for Lily to climb onto her back.

"You sure I won’t be too heavy for you?" Lily walked up to her head as she bent down. Trinee nudged her to her leg so she would climb up. "Don’t get mad at me if we can’t get off the ground!" Trinee nipped at her feet making her yelp with surprise. "Hey now! Alright alright I’m getting on." Lily was excited to ride on a dragon again as Dimitri gave her the most memorable first flight. Hopefully Lily’s weight wouldn’t be a problem. Trinee moved to the cliff edge next to the castle spreading her wings.

"Let’s go!" Lily shouted as Trinee lept off the cliff catching the wind under her wings giving her lift. Lily squealed with delight as her friend took her for a ride down to the city.
