Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 309: Siege (4)
Chapter 309: Siege (4)
The players from Olympus somehow escaped the attack near the enemy’s castle. After losing a hundred and eighty-one players, the rest went back to their base, hoping Lila’s team would succeed.
But there was no news from them. In the end, everyone assumed they had died. What should have been an easy sweep had turned into a one-sided massacre and left a scar on their ego.
They knew if other players found out, life inside the tower would become miserable. The only way to make sure no one talked was to win the trial.
After taking a moment to calm down, the group came up with a new plan. They decided to wait it out. Since attacking the enemy was no longer an option, they chose to wait three days until the trial ended.
After the allotted time, the team with the most members still alive would win, so all they had to do was survive. Even though it wasn’t what Triton wanted, the players agreed on this plan because they didn’t have any other choice.
With an abundance of monsters to hunt and water from the river, they were confident in surviving the test. However, things were about to get worse for them.
On the first day, everything went fine. They had food, water, and shelter. But on the second day, those who went to fetch water didn’t come back.
They sent a group of seven to find them, but they didn’t return either. Something was very wrong. So, half of their remaining group went to search for the missing people, only to find their bodies.
Someone had attacked them and left their bodies bizarrely hanging from the nearby trees. Everyone in the group was stunned, their eyes wide with shock.
Then, as if things couldn’t get any worse, they heard a rustling sound. Shadows moved in the trees. Suddenly, a group of hooded assassins appeared, stepping out from the dense foliage of trees.
The group’s confusion turned to fear. They knew the enemy team only had two members. But now, over fifty assassins stood before them. It didn’t make any sense. How could there be so many? freewebnσvel.cøm
"Why are there so many people here?" someone from the first team yelled. "We need to leave!"
"Don’t be a coward. We have over fifty people on our side as well," another suggested. "Besides, if we leave, they’ll know where our base is. Do you want that?"
Faced with a tough choice, the group decided to fight the hooded figures. However, they soon learned that things were not as they seemed.
As they charged into the group of assassins, they passed right through them and into the river. There were no hooded figures, just an illusion. All of them, but one man, were in the river, looking confused.
"Oi! Pull us back to the side, before the enemy appears again!" someone yelled, but the man didn’t budge.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Pull us back, you moron!"
Suddenly, the man began laughing. "You think they care about your base?"
"What?"
"I said," the man replied in his hoarse voice. "You think the enemy doesn’t know about your... base? Well, think again."
Adrian unveiled his hoodie. The opponents thought they were safe when in reality, Adrian had taken advantage of the chaos and turned into one player from Olympus and followed them while they ran to their base.
The secret base the players thought they had was all an illusion, just like the masked assassins before them. Adrian already knew all about their base. Every entrance and exit and now he was about to end them all.
The players panicked and hurriedly began swimming to the other side. But before they could reach the other side, Adrian retrieved a glowing orb from his inventory and threw it in the river.
A moment later, the players were stunned. Crackling lightning surrounded the device that Adrian took from the second floor. It looked like an early prototype of Zeus’s lightning bolt that had been forgotten about, but now it was in Adrian’s possession.
With his task complete, Adrian transformed into the Grim Reaper. The trial had begun with two people against 287, but now only fifty-three were left. It was time to hammer the final nail into the coffin.
However, not everything goes according to the plan and a moment later Adrian got the system’s message.
[Your base is under attack!]
"Damn it!"

Han knelt on the cold stone floor, surrounded by fifty-three enemies. His armour broke into pieces and his shield became cracked and useless. Blood trickled from multiple wounds, and every breath felt like fire in his lungs.
He gritted his teeth, trying to push through the pain. He couldn’t fall here, not now. If he did, the castle would be lost, and he and Arnold would have failed the trial after enduring so much.
The Olympus players surrounded him. They laughed, confident of their victory. The moment half the people left for the river, the other half quietly went to the enemy base as they had suspicions about why Han and Arnold weren’t attacking or even trying to look for them.
The answer was simple. An enemy had to be hiding among them. That’s why they had waited for an opportunity to present itself for the group to divide, which it did.
"You and Arnold never had a chance," one of them sneered. "It was only a matter of time before you lost."
Han’s vision blurred, but their taunts fuelled his resolve. He reached up and undid his broken armour, letting the pieces fall to the ground. His muscles ached, the wounds on his body screaming in protest, but he stood tall, ready to face the enemies one more time.
"I’m not done yet," Han said, curling up his fists.
The Olympus players closed in, savouring the moment before dealing the killing blow. Just as one enemy raised their sword to strike, a blur shot past Han. The attacker was sent flying across the room, crashing into the far wall with a sickening thud.
Everyone turned to see Adrian standing there, panting as if he had run a marathon. He looked at Han, shaking his head with a hint of a smile.
"Good work keeping them busy," Adrian said. "Put the mask on. Things are about to get nasty."
