Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 279: Storm Tamer (2)
Chapter 279: Storm Tamer (2)
Hunters from the Sons of the Moon guild had arrived at the dungeon prior to the decided time. Despite the exaggerated tales of their illicit activities, they were a bunch of simpletons in a good way.
Obviously, Adrian had done his research about them as soon as John asked his team to participate in the joint exercise. He wasn’t taking any chances after what happened with Lucas and Felicia.
He was even more careful about them because they had links with Lucas and Felicia, which meant they could as well turn against him. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
But he did find something interesting. The White Tiger Clan seemed to have been active in Hawaii for quite some time, but they disappeared right around the time Vernian struck their convoy.
As much as Adrian wanted to chalk it up to coincidence, he couldn’t. It was another reason he readily agreed to the mission, hoping he would get some time to investigate the clan and get some leads to where Vernian was hiding.
Meanwhile, near the dungeon...
"They are here," Ezekial, the blonde guy, mumbled, getting off the tree.
"They have a certain tense aura around them," Ruby, the only lady on the team, said as she cleaned her equipment.
On cue, Adrian, Aria, and Sophia exited the vehicle. Despite John’s wishes, Adrian didn’t take the rest with him because of Vernian. There was no saying when and what a psycho like him would do, so leaving Seraphina and Vesper to protect Amelia was the right decision.
Other than that, Adrian was also intrigued to work with one of Brazil’s top guilds. As it would help him forge connections in the event he’d need them.
"They don’t look like newbies to me," Robin, their leader, commented. "The way they are handling themselves... it’s somewhat different than I’d have expected."
Following the fight with the white tigers, the international image of USA hunters had taken a significant hit.
Robin expected Adrian and his team to reflect that state, but what happened was the opposite of what he had expected. They looked confident, even more than his own people did, which was strange in his eyes.
’I hope they aren’t an overconfident bunch who will screw our plans over.’

"There’s no media here," Adrian commented, looking around. "That’s probably because John doesn’t want any bad publicity if things go south."
While there was no media there, surprisingly, there were quite a few members from Hawaii’s DRA branch. They were the ones looking after the dungeon, and Adrian found it weird because the rights to the dungeon were owned by the moon guys.
But before he could ponder further about it, Sophia interrupted his train of thought.
"Can’t blame the guy for not having media personnel here," she mumbled. "Our history with dungeons hasn’t exactly been great. First, the boss steal from the white tigers, then the mess with Lucas’s death, and to top it all off, what happened last week."
Adrian nodded. After all, the things Sophia said were one of the reasons why he agreed to this joint exercise bullshit in the first place.
’If I want to take over the guild, I need to have a good image with the people within. Coming off as a brat won’t solve my problems.’ frёeωebɳovel.com
<Self-reflection is the symbol of success. I’m proud of you, Master!>
Ignoring the comment, Adrian and company made their way to the rest of the party. He could see that the four-person party was a bit stiff during their meeting.
Their reaction confused Adrian. According to what he knew, Robin’s team was the third-best-ranked within their guild despite having the fewest members. As such, Adrian expected the team to be more assertive.
<They are nervous, Master.>
’Nervous? Is it because of me?’
<...No, it’s because of Aris.>
’Makes sense.’
Aris, Adrian was still getting used to calling her that. But as strange as it was, her form was even stranger. She looked like a typical fox girl out of an anime with tails, claws, and all that jazz.
Unlike Nexaria, Earthlings weren’t accustomed to the presence of beast people. Hence, it was understandable why they would feel uncomfortable or intimidated by her presence and could even mistake her as a monster.
John expressed the same thought when Adrian informed him about his decision. The last thing he wanted was for the people to accuse the guild of working with monsters. Adrian didn’t care and brought her along.
He wanted Aris to test her new skills in the dungeon, as that was the only place they could be away from prying eyes, as he couldn’t trust anyone anymore.
However, it wasn’t just the Sons of the Moon who were nervous. Adrian could sense that Aris was acting strangely, too. Perhaps it was because she had a bond with Fenris. Adrian could feel some of Aris’s emotions since Fenris was now a part of her.
"You good?" Adrian asked Aris, who immediately perked up.
"...nothing particular," Aris replied, playing with her hair. "I’m worried I would become a burden on you."
Adrian was surprised by her answer. A’Mila and Fenris were both always confident, and that’s why he assumed Aris would be the same. But that didn’t seem to be the case.
"Have you forgotten who you used to be?" Adrian interrupted, gently patting her head. "You used to be the most confident I’ve ever known. You were brave and always stayed by my side.
So don’t worry about being a burden because you were the one who supported me when no one else did."
Adrian’s words seemed to have gotten through her, and Aris nodded, returning to her usual self.
"Shall we head inside?" Adrian asked Robin about the group, but he shook his head.
"We’re waiting for the remaining members to show up," Robin replied.
"More members?" Adrian asked, surprised by the new information. "I wasn’t informed about it-"
"Because you would have never agreed to it," John said, walking out of another car with Michaela.
