Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 275: Goodbye, A’mila... (2)
Chapter 275: Goodbye, A’mila... (2)
When Adrian reached A’Mila, her body was convulsing from the fatal wound. With one look, Adrian knew A’Mila wouldn’t survive. In fact, it was a miracle she wasn’t dead already.
"A’Mila!" Adrian cried out, dropping to his knees beside her. "No, no, stay with me..."
He gently cradled her head in his arms as tears streamed down his face. Sensing his touch, A’Mila’s eyes fluttered open, her breathing was shallow and laboured as she took in the sight of Adrian’s crybaby face.
Despite the immense pain wracking her body, she couldn’t help but smile weakly as she saw Adrian. The sight of him safe and sound brought a flicker of happiness to her heart, knowing that she had succeeded in saving him after all.
She tried to speak, but no words came out of her mouth. However, her eyes conveyed everything—gratitude, love, and the inevitable goodbye.
"Hold on, A’Mila," Adrian whispered, his voice breaking. "Just hold on. Help is coming."
A’Mila’s hand trembled as she lifted it to Adrian’s face. Her fingers brushed against his cheek, caressing him softly. Adrian held her hand tightly as if he could transfer his strength to her.
"I’m here," he said, desperate for a miracle which would never come. "I’m right here."
A’Mila’s convulsions slowed, and her eyes began to lose focus. Her smile remained, but it was fading. With one last gentle caress, her hand fell limp, and she took her final breath.
"No," Adrian whispered. "No, please, no."
He held her close, rocking back and forth; unable to contain his grief, he yelled out. The world around him blurred, and all he could focus on was the A’Mila in his arms. The battle, the noise, and everything else faded away, leaving him alone in his sorrow.
It felt like even the sky couldn’t hold back and wanted to take Adrian’s pain away. But even the rain’s embrace couldn’t bring him the peace he desired.
Adrian stayed there, cradling A’Mila’s body as the rest caught up to him. Seraphina rushed over, hoping there was something she could do, but one look at A’Mila confirmed what Adrian already knew. She was gone.
Without a word, she hugged Adrian as his blank eyes stared downwards, offering silent condolences. Sophia did the same while Vesper was in shock to see her sworn sister lying lifeless.
Everyone stood there in the rain, unable to form any words that could console Adrian. As for Vex, A’Mila managed to save her before returning to check up on Adrian.
It was then that she saw the fight between Adrian and Vernian and intervened despite being told not to. Given the distance, she thought she was safe, not knowing the ghost soldiers were already on her tail. A’Mila’s focus was solely on saving Adrian, and she paid the ultimate price for that.
Adrian wondered if things would’ve been any different if he hadn’t interfered with Maria or Hera. So many people had lost their lives because he couldn’t satisfy his ego and kept going against <Olympus>.
If Vex and Charles had not attacked the hospital, Vex would not have been captured, and none of this would have happened.
But then he remembered Vernian. Something about him told Adrian that Vernian would have appeared sooner or later to kill him. Still, maybe Adrian would have been better prepared to fight him in other scenarios... without leading to A’Mila’s death.
’So... it is my fault...’
[The higher entity, Faithful Spouse In Unfaithful Marriage, laughs hysterically and says, Get used to it, for this is just the beginning of your misery.]
[The higher entity, Thundering Pervert With a Pet Eagle, is pleased to see the User’s sorry state.]
[Entities belonging to a certain pantheon laugh and nod their heads.]
[Countless entities want to curse the User for a long and miserable life.]
’Start counting your days...’ Adrian replied. ’I’ll make you regret ever crossing paths with me.’
There were no emotions in Adrian’s voice as he openly warned the mighty <Olympus>, something even other entities refused to do. But instead of taking him seriously, the entities went wild, laughing at Adrian’s pitiful threat.
[The higher entity, Thundering Pervert With a Pet Eagle, laughs and asks what a mere mortal can do to him.]
Adrian, however, didn’t bother replying with words and got up, leaving A’Mila’s corpse behind. Sophia tried to stop him, but Adrian didn’t listen to anyone and began walking towards where the surviving White Tigers were being held.
Something inside Adrian snapped once he saw the bastards smiling and laughing like nothing had happened. The rage that he had been suppressing exploded.
James noticed the change in Adrian’s demeanour and, despite being injured, threw himself in front to stop him before he did something regretful.
"Adrian, you need to calm down!" James yelled, getting everyone’s attention.
Rick also joined in, asking Adrian to think before he does anything. But Adrian was having none of it and pushed both of them aside. On Rick’s orders, the DRA officers moved to subdue Adrian and pointed their weapons at him.
Even that couldn’t stop him. Since his weakness had led to A’Mila’s death, he sought to gain strength by any means necessary, even if it meant abandoning his humanity and devouring everything in his path.
"...move," Adrian whispered, drawing out Hydra’s Fang. "This will be your only warning."
The DRA officers could barely hear Adrian’s voice, but they knew what he wanted. However, they were bound by duty to protect the White Tigers as they had to be tried and given justice.
Unfortunately, Adrian didn’t seem all that keen on hearing them. Besides, who could blame him? He tried to do things the right way with Maria, and all it brought him was misery.
A’Mila wouldn’t have died if he had done things his way. At least, that’s what Adrian’s unstable mind forced him to think.
Since the officers refused to move, Adrian took matters into his own hands, ready to chop them to pieces. However, before he could, Seraphina yelled out something that stopped him in his tracks.
"There’s a way to save A’Mila!"
