Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 270: Blood Bath (2)
Chapter 270: Blood Bath (2)
"White tigers? What are they doing here!?" James exclaimed, killing another ghost soldier.
"They’ve been bought out; what else?" Alicia Myers, America’s only Ice-mage, replied, freezing a bunch of enemies while the others shattered them.
Despite the surprise attack, it seemed the DRA and the hunters had everything under control. After all, they were the best. That said, they had taken quite a hit and had a few casualties, but it seemed they’d win the fight.
However, soon, they began to notice something was off. Their abilities felt dulled when earlier they could one-shot the enemies; now, it was taking them multiple attacks to kill a mere ghost soldier.
In other words, the more they used their abilities, the less effective their skills got—something the enemies readily took advantage of.
Even Adrian noticed it, though his abilities remained unaffected. It was the same with Seraphina and A’Mila, who were there to help Adrian while Sophia and Vesper cared for Amelia.
’Something feels wrong. It seems like only those who were awakened on Earth are affected by this strange phenomenon.’
But if that were the case, then the White Tigers and the ghost soldiers would also have felt the effects. But they were fine, like Adrian and the girls.
’It has to be a curse.’
Adrian commented. It was the only thing that came to Adrian’s mind. Someone must have activated the curse before the attack, and it was only now that the hunters were feeling the consequences.
As a result, the hunters struggled to stay on their feet. Their mana and stamina consumption had skyrocketed, turning them into a liability more than an asset to the fight.
But things were about to get worse, much worse.
Soon, the White tigers and ghost soldiers began overwhelming the hunters. Even someone like Mei was having trouble staying on her feet under the brutal assault.
Most B and C-ranked hunters had already been dealt with, either grievously wounded or dead. Healers who usually wouldn’t have difficulty healing such wounds were now desperately waiting for their mana to replenish after casting a basic healing spell.
Sensing the severity of the situation, Adrian asked Seraphina to step back and heal the hunters. While they couldn’t do much, they could still act like a shield to stop the attackers from getting Vex.
Unfortunately, it left Adrian and A’Mila to fend off the ever-growing enemies, along with a few A-rank hunters.
Meanwhile, James tried contacting the DRA for backup, only to hear that the road they were on had been blown apart and turned into a crater three miles wide.
They tried sending reinforcements using helicopters, but the White Tigers shot them down. In other words, they were on their own. Despite their meticulous planning, everything was going against them.
Adrian racked his brain to find ways out of their dilemma and soon had an answer. While he couldn’t use skills like [Blood Mist] and [Soul Devourer] without posing any danger to his allies, the rest of the skills were fair game.
<Activate the beast form, Master.>
’Yeah, I got nothing else on me either way.’
Initially, Adrian wanted the Beast Form to be his secret weapon. But now that he was stuck in a desperate situation, there was no point in hesitating.
[Activating Beast Form.]
[All skills have been temporarily upgraded.]
All eyes turned towards Adrian as his aura grew fierce and wild. What followed was a transformation no one expected. His eyes turned menacingly red, along with the horns that curved out of his temples.
Everyone who noticed him knew something was about to happen. On the other side, their enemies were equally stunned. The transformation had caught them off guard, and they watched with wide eyes. The unexpected anomaly baffled them.
However, since Adrian was alone, they joined together to fight him. If they could take him down, it would be over.
Just then, Adrian let out a powerful howl that echoed across the battlefield. The howl had a stunning effect, causing the enemy to freeze, their weapons lowering as they tried to comprehend the situation before them.
Adrian tightly gripped the Hydra’s Fang as the wave of enemies charged at him. The fools thought they had strength in numbers, but soon, they’d realise charging at him was the worst thing they could have done.
"Let’s see how you like fighting each other!"
[Skill: Illusionary Eyes has been activated!]
[Skill effect: Hoax has been triggered!]
Suddenly, the enemies charging at Adrian turned on one another. Before anyone could comprehend what was happening, the group descended into chaos, ruthlessly slaughtering each other.
"What the hell..." James mumbled in disbelief.
The other hunters were in shock as well. Just how many skills did Adrian have? While some of them even grew weary of Adrian’s capabilities. But all of them were glad that Adrian was fighting on their side.
Within minutes, the enemy ranks were completely swallowed by chaos. They were busy fighting each other, which gave the Hunters some time to recuperate.
While they got to their feet, Adrian grabbed one of the guys under his influence and asked him about the curse. However, before the man could spill the beans, he choked on something and died the next moment.
"...they’ve all been cursed as well," Adrian mumbled. "The moment they talk about something they shouldn’t, they’ll die."
Adrian needed to find the one responsible for the curse, or the little momentum they had managed to gather would mean nothing. Thankfully, he had another plan.
Since his organs were in overdrive, the same held true for his mana core. This meant that with enough effort, his heightened mana sensitivity could pick up on the fluctuations in the surrounding mana.
’A curse of this magnitude demands an enormous reservoir of mana. If I amplify my sensory perception, I should be able to locate the curse caster and eliminate them.’
Adrian was confident the caster wasn’t amongst the enemies in his sights. They had to be somewhere safe to ensure the curse didn’t break prematurely. Even then, they couldn’t be far away.
"A’Mila, Seraphina, I’ll leave the rest to you!" Adrian yelled before rushing behind the enemy lines.
