Chimaera's Conquest: The Legend Of The Devourer-Chapter 236: Back To The Mystery Forest (2)
Chapter 236: Back To The Mystery Forest (2)
As Adrian opened his eyes, he found himself in the familiar yet mysteriously different forest. The absence of the usual shroud of mist left him wondering if the Eyes of Absolute Truth had already begun its work.
[The higher entity, Blind Ruler of Justice, watches the trial with great interest.]
[the higher entity, The Monkey Sage with a Golden Headband, watches on with his clones and hopes the User will create an excellent spectacle for them.]
[Countless entities nod in agreement.]
Watching all the notifications, Adrian smiled. He was afraid pissing off <Olympus> would have an effect on the entities watching him. Well, it did have some impact, but not how he had expected.
Instead of the entities leaving, it seemed more of them were eager to watch him since it was a rare occasion when a mortal pissed off a pantheon like <Olympus> and lived to bask in the glory.
They were more surprised that despite Zeus’ instructions, one of his wives had become Adrian’s primary supporter. Yes, the Blind Ruler of Justice was none other than Themis, a titan.
Due to her status, Zeus couldn’t force her not to help Adrian. After all, just like him, Themis was someone who did what she liked without anyone’s permission.
Obviously, Adrian wasn’t aware of her identity. Otherwise, he’d be worried about taking any sponsorships from her, as it could bite him in the ass later. After all, Themis was known to be on good terms with Hera and Zeus, so it was surprising to see her help Adrian over her family.
Meanwhile, unaware of the cosmic chess being played around him, Adrian was focused on finding the Kitsune.
"Where is she..." Adrian mumbled.
Last time, Kitsune hid in the mist and struck him. But now that the fog had disappeared, there wasn’t any place for her to hide. That’s why it was surprising that Adrian hadn’t found her.
Just then, he felt a shift in the air. Instinctively, he ducked just in time as several trees before him were sliced in half. Thanks to his fight with the clown in Hera’s temple, Adrian’s senses had grown quite a bit, saving him from another failure. freёnovelkiss.com
However, things were just getting started. Before Adrian could catch his breath, the Kitsune leapt from the trees above, aiming for Adrian’s head. But he was ready. Adrian sent her reeling back into a tree with a quick, preemptive kick to the face.
The Kitsune landed gracefully on her feet, her tails swishing behind her as she assessed her opponent. Even she could feel the changes in Adrian. Not only was he faster and stronger, but he also seemed to be more confident about his victory.
The Kitsune clicked her tongue when she realised defeating him wouldn’t be as easy as before. Adrian smirked as if he had read her thoughts.
"A lot has changed since our last encounter, hasn’t it?" he remarked, much to his opponent’s annoyance. However, a moment later, her lips curled into a feral smile.
"Indeed... it has," she hissed back. "But do not think for a moment that you have the upper hand. I am still a kitsune, and my powers are beyond comprehension."
Adrian was speechless. None of the monsters could speak in all the trials he had faced. They could howl and cry all they wanted, but they couldn’t cover with him.
Even the last time they met, the Kitsune had been tight-lipped, making Adrian think of her as another monster despite her human-like appearance.
"...you can talk?" Adrian asked.
"I can do much more than that," Kitsune smiled, untying her hair. "a lot more than a human like you will ever be capable of."
"If you’re so capable, why were you doing my bidding until now?" Adrian shrugged. "Besides, you’re awfully cocky for someone who died at the hands of so-called filthy humans."
Hearing Adrian’s words, her smile vanished as Kitsune showed her claws. It seemed like she was saying it was time to stop talking and start fighting. Something Adrian wanted to do as well.
With a flick of his wrist, the ring on his finger transformed into a shining golden dagger, its blade catching the dappled moonlight filtering through the canopy above.
The Kitsune’s eyes widened in surprise at the sight of the weapon, and she wondered how the human had gotten his hands on a relic like that. She obviously didn’t know what the dagger truly was, but she could sense its embedded abilities.
"Your feeble poison won’t have any effect on me."
"Who said anything about poisons?" Adrian smirked, disappearing from her sight. "It’s my turn to hunt."
The Kitsune snarled, her tails lashing out behind her as she prepared to defend herself against Adrian’s onslaught. However, his agility was unlike anything she had expected.
It felt like he had completely erased his presence; no matter what Kitsuen did, she couldn’t feel him around her. The irony was impeccable. The last time, Adrian was in her shoes but this time, she had been turned into the hunted.
Frustrated, she let out a cry that shook the entire forest. However, during all that time, she couldn’t sense when Adrian had snuck up to her and sliced off a couple of her tails. Kitsune turned around, her claws in full swing, but no one was there.
"Never show your back to the opponent," Adrian said.
Kitsune spun around again and suddenly felt a thud on her head from the dagger’s handle. It didn’t hurt much, but it humiliated her. It seemed Adrian was just fooling around instead of fighting her seriously.
While she wasn’t wrong, Adrian was doing it intentionally to leave an impression on the entities who had seen his struggle against the Kitsuen before.
He wanted to show them his potential to grow exponentially, and he would keep entertaining them. That way, the entities would have his back in confrontations like they did when Zeus went berserk.
’I know those entities are planning their next move to teach me a lesson. It’s only fair I do the same. Though I should wrap things up here. I Can’t afford to be late for the guild’s press conference.’
