Chapter 230: Clowns Can’t Be That Scary... (2)

It had all been a part of Henry’s plan since the beginning. Lady Maria had informed him about Adrian’s skill set once he called her following the explosions.

Although Henry had no idea how Maria knew that much about Adrian, he had a feeling the Goddess might have something to do with it. Either way, he was aware of Adrian’s ability to turn invisible and erase his presence.

Using that knowledge to his advantage, Henry baited Adrian into attacking him to lock him up with the boss.

"Enjoy your time in there, Adrian Fenrir," Henry laughed, confident of his victory. "For it will be your final moments."

"You seem confident," Adrian scoffed once the initial shock wore off. "Have it crossed your mind that you gave me what I wanted?"

Hearing the bravado in Adrian’s voice made Henry laugh maniacally. The super rookie might seem confident now, but it would all fade once he saw the creature he was up against.

Despite its B-rank status, the monster within had a reputation that sent shivers down the spines of even the most seasoned A-ranked hunters. Besides, it had claimed the lives of those well beyond level 70. A level 30 like Adrian would be no match for this beast.

But Henry didn’t want to spoil the surprise and left with his men to control the fire. After all, Adrian was as good as dead, and there was no point in staying there, even though Henry would give everything to watch the intruder wither away into nothing.

"I bid you farewell, Mr Fenrir," Henry smirked. "But fret not. I’ll be sure to send my men to collect your corpse and turn you into one of the mindless soldiers you killed... after all, that’s what our Goddess had willed for you."

With that, they left, leaving in a dark and seemingly empty room as the door closed. Adrian tried to break the barrier and the door, but nothing he did worked, forcing him to find another way out.

He cautiously stepped into the dark room, not knowing what to expect from the boss. He gripped his trusty crossbow tightly, ready for whatever lurked in the shadows.

As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he saw movement in the corner—a figure wrapped in colourful rags, its twisted grin illuminated by a faint glow as he snickered away into the darkness.

"What the hell... I didn’t sign up for a horror show," Adrian’s attempt at humour received no response from the other creature accompanying him in the dark.

Just then, he felt something standing behind him and turned to face the creature. It stood tall, its body adorned with patches of tattered clothing that resembled a clown’s attire.

Its face was like a mask of various human skins stitched together to make a morphed face. But that wasn’t all. The mask had wide, manic eyes and a grin that stretched unnaturally across its face.

In one hand, the creature held a twisted balloon filled with a sickly green gas, while the other clutched a jagged blade stained with the dried blood of its previous victims.

Adrian had never seen such a creature in his entire life, and surprisingly, the entities accompanying him had a similar reaction. None of them seemed to know what kind of creature it was, adding to Adrian’s misery.

With him unable to use [Analysis], Adrian had hoped the entities would be able to guide him if he asked them nicely enough. Unfortunately, his plan failed, which was becoming a common occurrence nowadays.

"Fuck this!" Adrian exclaimed and swung his sword, aiming for the creature’s neck.

Just then, the creature let out a chilling laugh that seemed to slow time and laughed, speaking in a hoarse voice, "New toy want play?"

Adrian didn’t reply and put more force in his strike. But at the last moment, the clown vanished in a puff of smoke, leaving behind the echoing echoes of its laughter and a cloud of poisonous smoke.

Thanks to his immunity, Adrian didn’t have to worry about the poison. But he realised the clown would be a difficult opponent for him to deal with without the skills associated with his eyes.

’This wasn’t supposed to be this difficult...’

Had everything gone according to his plan, Adrian would have sneaked in and out of the facility after killing a trapped boss. Not only the boss wasn’t weakened as he had believed, the damn creature turned out to be a pain to deal with.

Moreover, Adrian could guess Henry’s next step. He was probably already on a call with Maria, calling in for reinforcements. If Adrian didn’t deal with the mess quickly, getting out of the dungeon might turn into an arduous task.

While lost in his thoughts, trying to locate the clown, Adrian heard someone whisper into his ears.

"New toy... so slow... hehehe!"

Adrian turned around, only to have a punch thrown at him, which he hastily blocked with the sword, causing the clown to scream in pain and run back into the darkness.

"New toy hurts! New toy not good!" the clown’s voice echoed in the chamber. "DESTROY NEW TOY!"

Adrian lunged for another hit, but the clown vanished into the shadows, following a loud scream that disoriented Adrian for a second.

He wanted to chase the clown and be done with it. But before he could react, multiple figures emerged from the darkness. Dozens of clowns surrounded him on all sides, their laughter echoing off the walls in the darkness.

Adrian didn’t hesitate before slicing them up using [Minon Fury], only for them to turn out to be poison-filled balloons. He remained unaffected but realised how the imbecile could be responsible for killing higher-ranked hunters.

"Fine... you want to play with poison, then we’ll do just that."

Adrian released [Blood Mist], filling the room in its entirety. Only for the clown to laugh at his move.

"Poison tasty!" Clown exclaimed as it jumped around, pretending to bite the mist.

However, the next moment, the creature had one of its hands severed, even though Adrian couldn’t see it. The beast reeled back in pain, only to be kicked by Adrian.

"What a clown..." Adrian mumbled, stepping on the clown’s neck.

Adrian knew the clown would likely have [Poison Immunity] like himself. However, he didn’t release [Blood Mist] to poison the clown.

In the darkness, Adrian could only depend on two senses. His hearing and touch. Since the clown’s voice kept echoing in the chamber, it was impossible to locate the creature using that method.

That’s when Adrian devised the plan to fill the room with [Blood Mist]. Even if he couldn’t hear or see the clown, he could feel the shift in the air as the clown moved around and ate the poison.

"Playtime’s over," Adrian smirked, severing the creature’s neck.

[The dungeon has been conquered!]

[The transdimensional gates will close in thirty minutes!]
