Chapter 6: Chapter 6: The Secret Cultivator

The Fire Stealing Village is under the blessing of the Fire Stealing Ancient God. Without the guidance of the 'Fire Spark,' it is impossible to find the correct path to the village from the vast wilderness. Last time, ignoring Alice's cries for help and heading straight for the village without this key item meant failing to reach the village by nightfall, and eventually being devoured by the offsprings of the Lord of Night.

But this time is different,

The ability of the 'Dark Crow of Profane Fortune' not only reversed the timeline but also retained the 'Fire Spark.'

With the key to enter the village, facing Alice's pleas again, the character's storyline is bound to differ from before—worth taking a gamble.

Pale text continues to scroll on the screen.

"You have returned to the moment of your last decision."

"The beautiful girl, Alice, is touched by your kindness and is once again recounting her story, asking you to escort her back to the Fire Stealing Village."

"You're a bit dazed because this scenario has played out once before."

"You're fully aware that the lovely girl before you is a terrifying entity, possibly connected to the unknown Evil God, 'Lord of Night.' Hidden in her request is profound malice, intending to use your assistance to bring calamity upon the Fire Stealing Village."

"You're once again at a crossroads of destiny."

"Do you choose to turn around and run?"

"Or feign acceptance of Alice's request, covertly aiming to obtain the 'Night Watcher's Remains' before escaping to the Fire Stealing Village?"

"Oh, cowardly and deceitful Otherworldly Explorer, make your choice."

Do you think I'm stupid? Choosing to turn around and run might lead Alice, realizing her exposure, to cruelly crush me. Without hesitation, Yang Qizhou chose the second option.

"You remain extraordinarily composed, agreeing to Alice's request. To avoid raising suspicion, you once again bring up the threats you might face while collecting materials in the wilderness and inquire about the horrors hidden in the darkness."

"It must be said that your acting is remarkably skillful, vastly superior to your lousy combat abilities. Perhaps you should consider becoming an actor."

"Alice is deceived by your brilliant performance. As before, she hands over the 'Night Watcher's Remains' to you."

"You obtained the Night Watcher's Remains."

"You set off in the direction of Fire Stealing Mountain."

Holy shit, is it already eleven o'clock?

Yang Qizhou was startled by the time displayed at the top-right corner of his phone screen. Only then did he realize it had already turned dark outside. But being a night owl, paired with the strangely eerie and gripping plot of [Deceit World], he hadn't noticed he was getting carried away with the game.

Yang Qizhou redirected his focus back to the game.

"You've walked a great distance."

"Though you appear to be heading toward Fire Stealing Mountain, you're subtly veering toward the Fire Stealing Village."

"You suddenly put on 'Kan Rui's Wizard's Ring.' Moonlight spills upon you, granting you night vision and enhanced physical attributes."

"You raise the 'Fire Spark' high, madly sprinting toward the Fire Stealing Village."

"The twisted creatures wandering the wilderness shrink away in fear of the 'Night Watcher's Remains' in your hand, not daring to attack."

"Alice discovers your despicable behavior and is furious. The aftermath of her unleashed power instantly kills every twisted creature within a hundred-meter radius, as she begins to chase you down."

"You vaguely feel the terrifying shadow creeping behind you."

"You feel yourself on the verge of being submerged."

"The 'Fire Spark' activates, leading you onto the correct path to the Fire Stealing Village. You gain the blessing of the 'Fire Stealing Ancient God.'"

"Alice can no longer approach the Divine Domain of the 'Fire Stealing Ancient God,' reluctantly halting her pursuit and unleashing a thunderous scream across the dark night, vowing to cast you into the depths of darkness and feed you to the Lord of Night's offspring."

Haha, it worked.

Yang Qizhou's face lit up with a grin. How fortunate to utilize the 'Desecrating Dark Crow's' ability to reverse time—it not only allowed him to avoid the storyline where the Fire Stealing Village is annihilated, but he also got the 'Night Watcher's Remains' for free.

Unfortunately, the item remains a quest object and cannot be brought back to reality. He wondered if it might trigger a hidden scene with the Night Watcher.

"You encounter the Night Watcher, who comes to investigate the anomaly."

"You're thrilled and rush to greet him, attempting to discuss matters about Alice."

"The Night Watcher, wary of the 'Wizard' aura on you, attacks and slices you in half. Your internal organs spill onto the ground. The Night Watcher, surprised at your utter incompetence, wonders how you could be so weak."

"You've died."

???

The rogue player had endless question marks.

Well, it's [Deceit World], so bizarre deaths are par for the course. Dying because of the sun makes sense. Being killed casually by an Old God believer works fine. Getting eaten alive by monsters lurking in the night? Acceptable.

But seriously? The Night Watcher is supposed to be in the orderly, good-aligned faction, yet he'd go out of his way to kill me?

"What the hell is it with Wizards? Old God believers despise them, Night Watchers antagonize them—so essentially, everyone hates them? Screw that. Even if I starve to death in a ditch somewhere, I swear I'll never become a Wizard."

Yang Qizhou made a mental vow.

The character's soul drifted to the River of Death. Resurrection chances still remained, but all uses of the 'Desecrating Dark Crow' ability had been exhausted. Yang Qizhou pondered for a bit—if he couldn't load a save file, he'd risk missing out on another opportunity to reap unwarranted benefits. He decided to set the game aside for now and revisit it after midnight.

The moonlight tonight was particularly bright. But thinking about the terrors lurking in the blackness enveloping Elder Earth, Yang Qizhou felt strangely uncomfortable gazing at the serene beauty before him.

Out of boredom, Yang Qizhou decided to look up [Deceit World] online to see if he could find any useful information.

He opened his computer and began searching.

More than ten minutes passed, and Yang Qizhou found absolutely no results about [Deceit World]. Several theories started brewing in his mind. One: Maybe he was the sole player. Two: Perhaps some official entity has concealed key information. Three: Every [Deceit World] player had chosen to keep the secret entirely to themselves.

If it's the first possibility, well, wouldn't that make me a total badass? The Chosen Savior, the star destined to save the realm—whatever grand title there is, I might as well claim it.

Hands on hips.

As for the second possibility... Yang Qizhou frowned. An official intervention signifies deeper complications.

Regarding the third possibility,

Yeah, not a chance. Even if only a hundred people were playing [Deceit World], and ninety-nine of them were deeply shrewd and deceptive criminals, there'd still be that one who believes themselves the Chosen Savior, bragging either online or to their friends.

As he was mulling it over, a post on a forum caught his eye.

Its title: "This is a thread only visible to those who have set foot in Elder Earth."

Posted by: Mysterious Poster Person.

"So, I guess I'm not the Chosen Son after all. Now I'm wondering if this Mysterious Poster Person is male or female—and whether PY deals are possible." His thoughts veered absurdly off-track, but Yang Qizhou quickly pulled himself together and clicked the left mouse button.

The post opened swiftly.

"If you clicked in and aren't looking at gibberish, it means you're a [Deceit World] player."

"Congratulations on discovering an extraordinary game. While it might cost you your life, you are undoubtedly lucky, having chosen the extraordinary at the crossroads of fate."

"I won't write a guide since I've barely delved into the game myself, and much of the intel remains speculative. Revealing too much might just lead you into trouble. Let's stick to a few points of caution."

"1: Never keep playing the game once your resurrection chances have been exhausted. The Sinking River of Death doesn't just erase your character—it takes you along with it."

"2: Never recklessly use [Deceit World] items in real life. Doing so might unleash something horrifying."

"3: You may learn about those unnameable entities in Elder Earth, but never utter their full names aloud. Even abbreviations are best avoided entirely."

"4: If you want to communicate with me, join this group. Group ID: XXXXXXX."

"5: Never casually search terms like 'Deceit World' or 'Elder Earth' online. If you do, more than likely within 30 minutes someone will knock on your door."

"Good luck, friend."

Thirty minutes and someone will knock? What, neighborhood support services?

Yang Qizhou initially felt quite relaxed, but upon reading the fifth point, sweat formed on his forehead and back in an instant. He glanced at his phone—it was 11:59 PM. He had searched 'Deceit World' around 11:27 PM.

Exactly thirty minutes.

'Bang, bang, bang.'

Suddenly, there were knocks at the door, sending chills down Yang Qizhou's spine. Then he heard,

"Hello, sir, we're here from the community doing a household survey. Could you please open the door?"
