Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Law Book

Don't even mention the in-game characters; in the dead of night like this, even Yang Qizhou couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine.

The sun must not be directly looked at, or unspeakable terror will occur.

This was something the character had personally experienced.

Yet the residents of Wind Bell Town worshipped the sun—a belief that, to any normal mind, bordered on outright madness.

"What is the origin of this 'Golden Country,' and how is it connected to the Radiant Kingdom?"

"And this so-called Divine Envoy who emerged from there—he claims to be the Law Enforcer of the True Court, the Swordman of Order, and he guides the town's residents to worship the sun that cannot be looked at directly."

"Lawful Good?"

"Chaotic Evil?"

"Damn it, this is way too convoluted!"

Yang Qizhou felt his thoughts spinning in chaos. From Lena's earlier explanations about the Radiant Kingdom and the Ancient God King, he thought he'd begun to piece together the worldview of the Old Earth. But now, with the sudden emergence of a new faction called the 'Golden Country,' his initial conjectures had been completely overturned.

He decided to continue playing.

Hopefully, the next part of the story would shed more light on the mysterious 'Golden Country.'

"You feel there's something deeply strange about the simple, hospitable facade of Wind Bell Town, and you resolve to investigate further."

"You find a guesthouse and decide to stay temporarily."

"You put on the 'Hidden God's Clothes,' activating Hidden State, and leave the guesthouse to begin exploring the town."

"As you wander, you overhear residents talking about you. You listen attentively."

"Someone says: Finally, another Traveler has arrived in the town. We must make him violate as many laws as possible. That way, the disorderly aura on him will grow stronger."

"Another voice adds: I've seen that Traveler break thirteen rules—like using his left hand to push a door open, stepping inside with his right foot first, or letting his right hand slide downward during a hug with a woman."

"Yet another voice says: I saw the Traveler violate seven rules..."

"Another says: ..."

"Lastly, someone declares: As long as the Traveler breaks ninety-nine laws, he'll become the most delectable disorderly one. Tearing apart his flesh, torturing his soul, and polluting his spirit will bring us closer to the True Court and earn the favor of the Divine Envoy."

"Your scalp tingles. It dawns on you that these people are plotting how to divvy up your remains, and their warm hospitality was nothing more than seasoning for a feast they're preparing."

"You notice the shadows of Wind Bell Town's residents—shifting, twisting, horrifying, indescribable. They might just be monsters wearing human skins."

"Suppressing your panic, you head toward the most prominent building in Wind Bell Town, guessing that the Divine Envoy from the Golden Country resides there."

"You spot two guards clad in golden mech armor. Because you are in Hidden State, they do not notice you."

"You slip through the main entrance and find yourself in a corridor."

"Passing by the dining hall, you see two maids enjoying a meal. Their mouths are split wide, their teeth spiraling grotesquely. Strips of flesh hang between their teeth, and the meal they're enjoying... is a human arm."

"Suppressing the urge to vomit, you steel yourself and continue upward, witnessing more scenes of unimaginable terror along the way."

"At last, you reach the building's pinnacle,"

"and find yourself inside the Holy Hall."

"In the center stands a figure made of sludge and tentacles, with a single eye glowing an eerie, dark golden hue. Surrounding this entity are countless ancient and evil runes in bizarre, indescribable forms. Glancing at them for even a moment makes your head spin, as though your mind is being filled with a chaotic slurry."

"You swiftly avert your gaze, guessing that this is the Divine Envoy from the Golden Country."

"Beside the creature is a golden book. Its tentacles rest upon it, seemingly in prayer."

"You remain in Hidden State, unnoticed by the Divine Envoy of the Golden Country."

"The explorer's greed and audacity once again get the better of you. Your eyes turn toward the 'golden book,' and you edge closer to it."

"You pick up the [Wind Bell Town's Law Book]."

Wind Bell Town's Law Book (Quasi-legend): Once a blank law book, it fell into the hands of a Law Enforcer of the True Court, who inscribed ninety-nine rules of order within it. Effective range: Wind Bell Town. Any who violate the laws within will absorb a disorderly aura and face reprisal on an order-based plane. Effect: You can establish laws of order and implement them within a chosen range. Anyone who violates them will become tainted with a disorderly aura and face punishment within twenty-four hours. Current usage limit: 0/99.

Note: This item is currently unusable.

Unlock conditions: You must annihilate Wind Bell Town, return the law book to its blank state, and slay the Divine Envoy of the Golden Country to claim ownership and gain full access to its powers.

Good loot has been acquired.

Yang Qizhou, who had been feeling drowsy, became instantly alert when he saw the game notification. When the words 'Quasi-legend' appeared, he couldn't contain his excitement and shouted aloud, earning curses from his neighbors.

His reaction was understandable—after all, the 'Hidden God's Clothes' was also a Quasi-legendary item, and its potent effects were evident even from a cursory glance. But it was an ancient object, and its incredible power came with horrifyingly high risks. At any moment, it might backfire on its wielder.

However, this [Wind Bell Town's Law Book] was different. It was a Quasi-legendary item without activation properties or terrifying side effects. It could be used freely, anytime and anywhere.

Yang Qizhou figured that very few players had obtained Quasi-legendary items so far in the game,

possibly none at all.

But when he saw the words 'unusable,' it was as if someone had poured ice-cold water all over his enthusiasm, chilling him to the core.

"What the hell? I got this close, and now you're telling me I can't even drink the reward soda?!"

If not for the fact that Yang Qizhou had managed to keep a modicum of self-control and realized he couldn't afford to buy a new phone, he might have smashed his in a fit of rage.

"So, I'd need to destroy Wind Bell Town and kill the Divine Envoy of the Golden Country to unlock this 'Quasi-legendary' item? Sure... like that's realistic!"

Yang Qizhou hit another breaking point.

As things stood, the most he could rely on were his two 'Genting Hounds.' He couldn't even hold his own against Lena, and characters in his party were already struggling to survive against minor monsters in the wilderness. Dismantling Wind Bell Town? Maybe he'd manage it in a millennium or two.

Frustrated to the verge of tantrum, he finally calmed himself. Left with no other option, he resumed the game.

"You interfered with the real world, thus exiting Hidden State."

"The Divine Envoy of the Golden Country noticed your despicable theft of the law book and, in fury, triggered the disorderly aura on your body ahead of schedule."

"You are about to face judgment on an order-based plane."

"Sensing the inevitability of death, you recklessly grab at random items from the prayer platform in a final act of desperation. You manage to seize a gemstone."

"You obtained the [Stone of Truth]."

"Your waist is severed. Your head is cut off. A noose tightens around your neck. Your heart is pierced."

"You have died."
