Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 292: Tricks (1)
Chapter 292: Tricks (1)
"Kill him already!" Darius yelled, frustrated by the sight of his guards failing to kill the human."Stop him before he gets near and bring the weapon to me."
Darius pulled his horse away, trying to get further behind his guards.
He had found what he was looking for, but there was something off about how the human moved. If he didn’t have good eyesight, he would have guessed it to be a vampire taking down his guards.
"What is he?" Darius wondered, trying to place what had happened to the human.
This strange sight was a good reason to lock the humans away, as he planned. The others were foolish not to believe in his plans, but the priest fighting his way through the guards was what Darius needed as proof.
Darius got down off his horse, deciding to be the one to deal with the priest. Joining the fight should end all talk that he was a coward.
Darius was never afraid. He simply stood back since a king didn’t need to lift a finger when he had so many guards around him.
"Stop!" Darius yelled, his voice travelling far through the street they stood on. "I will take care of the human."
Phillip smiled when he saw that Darius was going to challenge him. "This is a lovely surprise. You aren’t scared, king?" He addressed Darius in a mocking tone. "I thought you would have run back to your little palace for me to find you."
Darius studied the priest, trying to place what was off about him. The closer she got, the more certain he was that the man before him was not an ordinary human.
"What are you?" Darius asked.
Phillip opened his arms as if inviting Darius in for a hug. "I am the one who will save this town. I am the saviour of my people, and in a moment, I will be king."
Darius laughed at the absurd idea that a human would rule. He was curious if it was something in the water which made humans act so foolishly or if they were born like this.
Darius raked his fingers through his hair. A smile spread across his face as he looked forward to killing the man before him.
It was already a headache to have purebloods after his title, but now there was a human. At this point, everyone needed to die since they desired a throne which did not belong to them.
"I will spare you if you tell me where to tell me where I can find the other weapons and holy water," Darius said, eyeing the weapon in Phillip’s hand.
The dagger was the one thing stopping Darius from attacking as he wanted. One little cut and he would carry the wound forever, or he could die.
"Are there more in the church?" Darius asked.
Phillip looked down at the dagger in his hands. "You are a fool, King Darius. To think I would answer you is exactly why I must kill you. I’ll mount your head on the palace gates or, even better, drain you of your blood like you’ve done to my people."
Darius stepped back, for the first time in his life, wary of a human. He still hadn’t placed what was making the man before him act like a madman.
Darius was about to go back behind his guards when he heard a noise. He looked up to the sky, thinking it was one of the shapeshifters from the palace, only to realise it was the man he wanted dead.
"You can fly, you bastard," Darius said through gritted teeth. This was yet another thing the court and his family were going to mention to say how much more powerful Xavier was.
Darius didn’t want to go to the night without killing Xavier, but for now, it was in his best interest to return to the palace to retrieve a holy weapon. That was the only way he could kill Xavier tonight.
"The two of you should get acquainted. He also wants the throne, so you will have to kill him," Darius informed the priest.
Darius smiled at the thought of the two men fighting with Xavier becoming seriously wounded to the point that he would be easy to finish off.
It would be Xavier’s head placed on the palace gates, displayed for every pureblood to see that Darius was stronger.
Phillip turned his attention to the infamous Lord Blackthorn. His sights were set on the king, but killing Xavier was something that needed to happen tonight.
Xavier looked down at the two men. He had arrived a little too early and missed the chance for the little demon to get to Darius.
"Lord Blackthorn! You’ve made an awful decision to leave your estate tonight. Have you heard of me from Bryce? Look at that coward," Phillip said, noticing Darius running away in the corner of his eye.
The chase was going to be fun for Phillip.
"So, you’re the one the little demon attached itself to," Xavier said, landing on the ground. He kept his distance from Phillip.
The aura of a demon was easy to spot. From what Xavier saw all around the priest, the demon was attached to this human for quite some time now, so it was highly likely that this priest had little control over his actions.
Had Xavier seen this priest when he visited the church or casually seen him around the town, it would have been easy to put together the pieces.
"Demon?" Phillip laughed. This was funny coming from a vampire. "I am a man of the church. I am not a demon, but a saviour."
"No, the thing attached to you is a demon who’s been turning you into a good host. You lost yourself long ago, and it is odd how no one around you noticed it. You are no longer a man of the church. Not when you carry a demon," said Xavier.
Xavier listened closely to Darius making his grand escape. Darius could run, but he wouldn’t escape what was coming for him.
Phillip laughed at the crazy belief that he had a demon around him. He was a man who stayed away from such things.
"Of course, you would think a man saving the world from vampires is a demon. I am going to enjoy killing you, and then I am going to enjoy the story of how they killed your wife," said Phillip.
Phillip almost regretted not being the one to head to the Blackthorn estate. It was unfortunate that he couldn’t be in so many places at once.
Seeing the king shift into a bat and fly off in the direction of the palace, Phillip didn’t have much time to waste on Xavier.
"I shall pray for you," Phillip said, charging at Xavier soon after. He desired to see Xavier’s blood on his hands and dagger, then to see him die right there.
Xavier remained still as Phillip came at him with speed that no other human would have.
Phillip smiled, seeing Xavier be so cocky to not move. He aimed his hand at Xavier’s head, only to feel his body stop before he could touch Xavier.
Phillip could only move his eyes as his body went still. What happened to him?
Xavier took the dagger from Phillip’s hands. "The demon might be attached to you, but you are still a human. I have tricks too, little demon."
