Chapter 275: Same enemies (1)

In the Blackthorn estate, Gabriel was dragged out of the cell he had been placed in. His body was weaker now to the point that he could not move a muscle. He could not put up a fight against the men holding onto him, which angered him.

He was the great hero who brought victory to the land. He was mistreated by the very people who should have been singing his praises.

Why hadn’t anyone come to the estate looking for him? Xavier’s home was the first place they should have looked when he did not show up for work.

Gabriel was taken out of the estate to a small room filled with small weapons like the dungeon.

Gabriel thought he was left for dead after the guards dropped him and walked out the door until he heard someone approach him. Looking up, Gabriel felt happy for the first time in days.

"Selene," Gabriel smiled, trying to lift his hand to Selene. He wanted to hold her hand and kiss her.

The world was slowly becoming dark as the pain grew, yet Selene shined so brightly in his eyes.

Selene kept her distance from Gabriel and took in the awful sight of him.

Gabriel looked as though someone had sucked the life out of him and it was quite possibly what the wound left by the holy weapon was doing since Gabriel wasn’t dead yet.

"I know you would have come. Cassandra, she deceived us. She wasn’t all that she claimed to be," Gabriel said, warning Selene to keep her safe. "I shouldn’t have trusted her."

"No, you shouldn’t have," Selene said, agreeing with Gabriel for the first time since they had separated. "You brought this upon yourself. Have you been asking for me in hopes I would pity you? In hopes that I would for some reason be in love with you?"

"You were right. I shouldn’t have brought Cassandra home. I was angry with you at the time because I felt like you were always looking down on me," Gabriel explained his actions.

Gabriel still believed Selene’s coldness had thrown him into another woman’s arms. Why couldn’t she give him the same attention she seemed to give Xavier? Why did she need to be so cruel?

"Look down on you? Ha," Selene laughed, a little annoyed he still said this. "I am not going to get into this with you. I wanted to come here to see the result of your actions."

Selene continued, "You were so blinded by hurting me that you missed Cassandra plotting to kill you. I don’t feel sorry for you, and I don’t love you, so don’t ask to see me. You should have used this time to look over your mistakes. Take responsibility for all your actions."

"I have-"

"No, you haven’t. You say Cassandra deceived us like we are still a pair, and you are blaming your actions on me looking down on you when I didn’t. Without evidence, you placed your mother’s death on me. You were out to ruin me, and now, you come to me when she has betrayed you," said Selene.

Selene couldn’t believe the nerve of Gabriel to show up at the gates only when he had lost everything. What did he think of her to believe she would run to him and forget everything he did?

"I know that I have made mistakes, but you made mistakes as well. You had Lord Blackthorn by your side while I was away. It is the only way you could have jumped into a marriage so fast. We both weren’t loyal, and I can forget your affair. Why can’t you do the same with mine?" Gabriel asked.

Gabriel thought Selene looked like the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He could feel it inside of him that today might be the day he died, so he had to let Selene know how much he loved her and warn her to get away from Xavier. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Gabriel was well aware of how much of a mistake he had made. The pain he endured was good enough to make him realise just how much abandoning Selene had cost him.

"I never had an affair. I was lucky to have someone nearby who would take me in when my husband at the time was set on making a fool of me. You don’t love me, Gabriel. You ran here because you think I am the only one you have left. You don’t have me," Selene said, hoping he understood this time.

Selene knew well that if Cassandra had not stabbed Gabriel, he would not be here speaking of loving her. Instead, Gabriel would come at their gates to accuse them of a crime.

"From the moment you returned with her, our marriage was over. When you took Elsie from me, that sealed me not caring if you were to die. You betrayed me, but thanks to that, I was loved by someone else," Selene shared.

There was a lot of good which followed Gabriel betraying her, but Selene wasn’t going to thank him for it.

"You don’t know him well. He has the princess in the dungeon and some human. You need to get away from him before you find yourself in the princess’s position. I am weak, but I can find the strength for us to leave. My house will be given to you," Gabriel offered.

Selene was tired of speaking to Gabriel since he wouldn’t believe that she was now in love with Xavier. This was the same man who didn’t believe her when she said she loved him.

Selene was satisfied seeing that Gabriel got what he deserved. This was the best revenge for him after he killed Elsie, and it didn’t matter that she wasn’t the one to deliver the wound to put him in this state.

She had nothing more to say to Gabriel since they were going around in circles.

Selene turned on her heels to leave since the one who would kill Gabriel was waiting outside. Surprisingly, Selene wasn’t as angry as she once was to take a knife and stab Gabriel with it until she felt satisfied.

Selene didn’t want to become a murderer because of Gabriel, and she certainly didn’t want to get close enough to heal him.

Seeing Selene walk away from him, Gabriel panicked. "There are others with her. Others whom your husband cannot defeat since they have holy weapons. Cassandra hated you as well, so who do you think she is coming after next?"

Gabriel wasn’t ready to die. He was so close to touching the former glory he had as the town’s hero. He could solve this now that he knew who was behind it. He had more clues than the other guards ever had.

The king’s favour was right there, and all he needed was a way to heal from the wound causing him so much pain.

"I know who to go after. I remember where I found Cassandra and that man she claims as her uncle. There was a church there in that town. You need me," Gabriel said, smiling since he found his way to leave.

"They stabbed you in your home, remember? It means they are now here, so no one needs you to go out of town to find clues about her. You are useless," Selene said, knowing how much those three words could destroy him.

Selene continued on her way out of the small stone room so Gabriel could be ended with the holy weapon Xavier had.

Gabriel’s story came to a fitting ending since no one would remember him, and Selene doubted no one would realise his presence was missing.
