Chapter 239: Family talk (5)
Selene rubbed her temple. "I know he liked to wander around the kingdom to explore, but he never mentioned anything about living in a cave."
"Well, where would you visit him?" Orlork asked.
"I wouldn’t visit him. He would show up when he liked with gifts from his travels. Only my mother would know where he was living. I was used to it back then, so I didn’t have any reason to ask where he lived. Where is this cave?" Selene asked, wanting to go there now.
"I am not going to tell you. You’ve prepared this wonderful dinner and I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go looking for him. I know I shouldn’t have mentioned his cave, but I thought you already knew. Your family is full of secrets," Orlork said, completely entertained.
Selene didn’t know how she would focus on a dinner when all she wanted was to go to where her grandfather could be. How was she not to go where her parents could be all now?
"I enjoyed speaking with you, and I would like to keep talking to you, but this is the first clue I’ve had about where my grandfather could be in a long time. I’ve said I could wait, but I want to see him. Where is this cave?" Selene asked.
"Since I know about it, the Everharts should also know about it. I don’t think you should go there-"
"And I thank you for suggesting what would keep me safe, but I want to see my grandfather. I need to see him to speak about my mother. So please, tell me where he is," Selene pleaded.
Orlork looked at Xavier for what he wanted to do.
"Tell her where it is. Dinner is cancelled," said Xavier.
They could all stay to enjoy the food, but Xavier would take Selene where she needed to go.
"The only way I would let both of you go would be if I join you. I can’t send you there and then hear that you’re missing. Jasper and I will come with you now, which will worry the others, or we go tomorrow," Orlork suggested.
Orlork continued to say, "If your grandfather is there, he will be there tomorrow. You’ve spent your time planning a dinner for us, so don’t let it go to waste. You’ve created a good space for me to speak with Camilla. My home isn’t warm like this."
"On any other day, I would feel happy to help with your daughter, but I want to see my grandfather. I am sorry our first meeting has to end like this," Selene apologised.
"I will go myself to visit him, wake him if I need to, and let him know his granddaugther is looking for him. I will bring him right here to the estate so you won’t be seen there or have to go outside where there are attacks. Agreed?" Orlork asked, offering his hand for Selene to shake.
Selene stared at Orlork’s hand. They weren’t close yet, but she took into consideration what he feared if she were to go to the cave. "I miss my grandfather."
"I’m sure you miss him more than your husband missed me. I won’t break my promise to go see if he is there. Allow me to go there so you don’t stumble upon an Everhart you don’t want to meet now," Orlork explained.
"I’ll go with him," Xavier said so Selene would worry about it less. "Enjoy your night with my family and I’ll go with him to see your grandfather together when dinner is done. Not tomorrow."
"Very well," Selene shook Orlork’s hands. "If neither of you leave tonight then I will go around myself to search every cave in this town until I find him. No more speaking about the Everharts or my grandfather until then."
Orlork crossed his heart. "I won’t bring them up unless you want to know of my time with them."
. "You would need to have a heart for us to believe that promise. Do you need a moment?" Xavier asked Selene.
Selene shook her head. "No, I am fine. I think we should get back to your mother and aunt. It might not have been a good idea to leave them alone and you should figure out yourself how to fix the mistake you made. Breaking her fangs was very drastic. No matter what a child of mine did, I couldn’t do that."
If Camilla never wanted to forgive Orlork then Selene understood it completely and she would stay out of it instead of urging Camilla to forgive her father.
"I know. I have a lot to make up for, so I am planning to fix it before I go back to sleep. Like the matter with the king. Jasper has shared that the king has been spying on you two and of his interest in Selene. I will end it," said Orlork.
"You don’t need to since I’m going to kill him. I don’t want to talk about him now, so move on," Xavier said, taking Selene back to the dining room.
Orlork knew Xavier killing Darius would bring on a lot more problems Selene and Xavier didn’t need so he would continue with his plans.
Too many things had gotten out of hand, and since no one was stepping in to fix it, Orlork had to be the one to do it. What Orlork didn’t understand was how everyone was allowing the little prince, who always messed up his duties, to stay king for this long.
Selene and Xavier returned to a quiet dining room. Josephine and Camilla were sitting facing opposite directions while Jasper was relieved to see Orlork return.
Camilla tore off a piece of bread she indulged herself with. "This is the strangest dinner I have ever attended. In case you have forgotten, we could hear you. What is this about your grandfather being in a cave? Is anyone in your family normal?" ƒreewebɳovel.com
"I don’t think you can question if my family is normal," Selene replied.
Selene had heard enough about the Blackthorns to know they were nothing like the stories told.
"Right. I forgot who my family was for a moment," Camilla said, taking back what she said. "Still, you’re a strange woman. You have time on your hands to bake. It couldn’t be for Xavier since he doesn’t have a sweet tooth. You never cared for human food, yet we’re sitting down eating it."
Camilla watched as Xavier helped Selene to her seat. "If I had known getting a man to fall in love with you meant they would change and follow your command, I might have done it long ago. I should start looking for someone who I can use."
"That isn’t how it works," Orlork said, not wanting just any man to enter their family.
"It’s going to work for me. He’s like the son you love most." Camilla looked at Jasper. "He’s the one who woke you. If I were to be with him, that means I would have some control over when you wake and how your home is run. That is something Nathaniel would envy. Interesting."
"Master," Jasper whispered, seeking help from Orlork. He didn’t want to be with Camilla.
"Calm down, Jasper. She is joking," Orlork replied.
For Jasper’s sake, Orlork hoped he was right.
