Chapter 233: Teaming up (3)

Juliana knew she couldn’t wait around for Vivienne to kick her out of the palace, and there was only one person who could help her.

It was going to be embarrassing to beg, but this would be her only way of staying in the palace.

Vivienne laughed as she walked out of the room. She enjoyed the look Juliana wore now. "I suggest you start packing."

Juliana waited for Vivienne to be gone, then threw the wine bottle toward a wall, shattering it and creating a big mess.

’I should have acted sooner,’ Juliana thought.

Juliana was still stuck with Vivienne walking all over her.

Juliana marched out of the room, heading toward the front door so she could leave the palace, but she would be back. Vivienne wouldn’t get off so easily.

She got a carriage and, hours later, arrived at the home of the one person who could help her.

"If you’ve come to brag about your new position, you should head back. I’m in a good mood to rip out your throat," Natalie said, pushing the door to close it.

Juliana placed her foot to block the door. "Wait! Hear me out first. I haven’t come to rub anything in your face. I need your help."

"Vivienne is trying to chase you out of the palace already? It is happening sooner than I knew it would. Don’t tell me that she caught you by surprise," Natalie said, enjoying the situation Juliana found herself in. "You couldn’t have been that foolish to think she wouldn’t turn on you."

"Will you help me or not? I came here because you are my only hope, and I can get you inside the palace. Can we talk, or should I start packing my things in the palace?" Juliana asked.

Natalie contemplated what to do with Juliana. She didn’t want to speak to Juliana, but she needed a way into the palace since Darius wasn’t visiting her anymore.

Natalie walked away from the door, allowing Juliana to walk in. "There are only two of us here, but that doesn’t mean it is safe for you to try something foolish. I will give you a small moment of my time."

Juliana closed the door. "Vivienne hid from me that Darius first wanted you as one of the women at his side. I think because he showed so much interest in you, she didn’t pick you. I was the second choice. She used me, and now she wants to throw me out of the palace if I am not carrying his child."

Natalie looked at where Juliana placed her hand. "Are you? Do you suspect you might be carrying his child?"

"No," Juliana shook her head. "It is too soon to tell. I haven’t been in the palace long, but I have been with him every night. He doesn’t sleep with her, but she says she will entertain him now, so he doesn’t come to me."

"That is just like Vivienne. She gets rid of you when you aren’t of any use, or she grows jealous. She has lost many friends because of that jealousy. You still have not told me how I am to help you and why you want me in the palace," said Natalie.

"You hold the king’s interest, and I suspect, since you have been quiet, that you might be carrying his child. You’ve been touching your belly from the moment I arrived. I am not angry if you are with child," Juliana spoke with honesty. "That child is what I need."

"My child?" Natalie unknowingly confirmed that Juliana was right. "How is that going to help you?"

"We both know the king desperately wants another child. If you are carrying one inside of you, and it is a boy, then you will find yourself back in the palace. I need someone I can team up with in the palace to go against Vivienne. That is you," Juliana explained.

Natalie laughed. "You’ve thought hard about this, but I don’t gain anything from helping you. I have to look out for myself."

"I can help you against Vivienne. It is better if you have someone besides the king at your side, whch would be me. I’ve always been closer to you than I was to Vivienne, though you are always mean to me," said Juliana.

"Now we are friends? Before this, you were doing everything to kiss the ground Vivienne walked on, but now she’s getting in the way of your dreams you think we are friends. You’re going to need to do a lot better to convince me," Natalie said, uninterested in the plan so far.

"I could mention to the king that you are with child, and he will come for you. There must be a good reason why you’re hiding out here instead of going to the palace now. Why are you smiling?" Juliana asked, confused by Natalie’s smile.

"Because you’re as silly as I thought you were. Why would you say that to my face, and why would you believe I am home alone? I wouldn’t welcome you inside if there wasn’t someone to protect me, and my brother won’t let you spoil our plans," Natalie revealed.

Juliana looked around for Natalie’s brother.

"Don’t worry. He won’t disturb us unless you do something foolish. You’re hoping that if I find myself in a good position in the palace, I will fight for you to keep your place. What about the king? Will you still want him then?" Natalie asked.

Juliana shook her head. "I just want to be inside the palace. I don’t know how you or anyone else did it. The king is awful in bed. He only does what will make him feel good. I can’t take much more of it, but it has found me a place there. Are you in love with him?"

This was the only reason Juliana could come up with for why Natalie wouldn’t want her in the palace.

"We are not so close to speak about that. Since you’re so desperate, I will help you," Natalie agreed to team up. "I am waiting for the right time to enter the palace. I don’t know how far along I am since I have shared a bed with him for some time now. I must wait a little more, so you must hold on till then."

Juliana couldn’t wait. She wanted to avoid Vivienne throwing her out soon. "You can come now. Darius sent Vivienne’s father out of the palace, so you don’t have to worry about him. I don’t know why he did it or why Vivienne is so calm, but he is gone."

"I am not going to come to the palace yet. We both know Vivienne always follows her father, so if she has allowed him to be sent out of the palace, she is plotting something. It is not the right time," Natalie said, thinking of her child.

Juliana hated that Natalie was so against coming to the palace right away. She hadn’t come all this way for nothing. "Then what am I to do?"

"Wait," Natalie suggested. "You have more time before they can claim you are not with child. I will be in the palace before then and ask for you to stay. Stay out of Vivienne’s way and wait for me to arrive."

Natalie continued, "You’ll have to prove yourself by sending me news until then."

"I can do that," Juliana promised.

She could do anything as long as she got to stay in the palace.
