Chapter 29: Contract Revision
Abigail’s gaze fell on the digital clock on the nightstand.
"Who in their right mind is coming to someone’s house at nine in the morning?"
However, seconds later, her confusion slowly turned to worry as Mr. Peters’ face appeared in her mind.
"Oh my God! What if it’s Mr. Peters? And he’s come back to cancel the rental agreement?"
Hearing her own words made Abigail’s knees feel weak.
She immediately left the bedroom to check the person outside, praying it wasn’t Mr. Peters who had come to cancel the contract. Otherwise, she would be in trouble, needing to find a new place.
Abigail didn’t rush to open the door. Still, she waited a bit, hoping the person outside had already left and wouldn’t bother her again. Or, she would pretend she didn’t hear the knock.
However, her prayer was dashed as the person outside knocked on the door again, startling her.
Taking a deep sigh, Abigail speaks, almost like whispers. "Who is it?"
"Miss Abigail. I’m sorry to bother you."
To her surprise, she recognizes the person behind the voice. It’s Brody’s voice. He is the Guard with whom she had a friendly chat on the first day she arrived.
"Mr. Brody?" Abigail finally opened the door and greeted him in surprise. She didn’t expect him to appear here so early in the morning. "Is there something urgent that makes you look for me so early?"
"Good morning, Miss Abigail. I’m sorry if I interrupted your morning..." Brody politely responded while turning his gaze away from her. He was frightened; his boss would kill him if he knew he’d seen the girl only wearing short, sexy pajamas.
"Miss, I’m so sorry to come this early. I had no choice because Mr. Peters insists I give you this revised rental contract first thing in the morning," Brody added while offering her the document folder.
"W-What? A revised rental contract?" Abigail was rendered speechless. Why did Mr. Peters suddenly do that? And why did he ask for it so urgently?
Abigail felt puzzled because she hadn’t heard anything from Mr. Peters since she signed the contract.
’Did I miss an email or text message from him?’ Abigail regretted not checking her phone when she woke up.
"Yes, Miss Abigail. Mr. Peters asked me to remind you to check the document first before signing it. But please sign it now, Miss. I need to send it to Mr. Peters immediately," Brody answered.
Abigail took the folder, feeling a bit confused. Inside, she found two sets of the same contract. Yellow sticky notes explained the changes in the rules that she had to follow while living in this place.
"Mr. Brody, please come in and have a sit. You can wait inside while I read this," Abigail offered, but Brody immediately rejected the offer, leaving her confused.
"That’s very kind of you, Miss Abigail, but I will wait outside. Take your time to read the paper, but please, sign it now, I beg you. Also, please return both the old contracts to me..."
Brody responded and left to stand outside before Abigail could say anything. Brody knew he would be in serious trouble if he dared enter her house. From how Mr. Peters gave him orders, he could guess Miss Abigail was someone with significant value to their boss.
Abigail could only smile slightly when she saw Brody walking toward the patio. She returned to her bedroom to look for the old contract, but when she passed the mirror, she instantly froze, looking at her appearance.
"What the hell, Abby!" she lightly slapped her forehead, noticing how revealing her short pajamas were. "GOSH! Girl, you’re so daring to appear before a man like this, huh!?"
Abigail scolded herself while walking to the bathroom to do her morning routine.
She hurriedly took the document folder after changing into an oversized black hoodie and yoga pants. Then continued to stand while reading the revised contract in the living room.
Not wanting to make Brody wait any longer, Abigail read the revised contract in speed mode and immediately signed the contract after she found nothing suspicious.
She also wrote "NULL AND VOID" on the old contract before placing it in the document folder along with the new contract.

Abigail walked toward the patio and saw Brody sitting in a garden chair with his back facing her.
"Mr. Brody, thank you for waiting. Here’s the revised contract with my signature in it," she said, stopping a few steps away.
"Thank you so much, Miss Abigail. I will return this document to Mr. Peters." Brody took the document folder, still trying not to meet her gaze. "I will excuse myself now, Miss Abigail. Once again, I apologize for disturbing your peaceful morning."
"It’s okay, Mr. Brody. This is also important to me. Thank you for your hard work."
Brody said nothing but nodded briefly before he left toward the black metal door.
...
Instead of going straight into the house, Abigail looked at the plants in the garden. All the plants had been watered, but she didn’t know who had done it. Was it Brody or another staff member?
She needs to ask Mr. Peters about these plants. Can she harvest the ripened fruits and herbs in the yard?
Abigail didn’t stay outside for long as she felt her tummy signaling she needed breakfast.
She headed to the kitchen to make a bowl of oatmeal, added a few scoops of granola, and poured cold milk over it. She also cut a golden melon, grabbed some grapes, and placed them in a beautiful ceramic bowl.
Abigail smiled when she noticed that all the furniture and serving dishes were harmonized by the same color, navy blue.
"It looks like Mr. Peters really fancy navy blue..." she muttered while pouring guava juice into the glass. Then, she placed all her breakfast on the dining table.
As she enjoyed her morning with a neat breakfast, her mind returned to the new contract she signed earlier. She just realized she hadn’t read the contract thoroughly because she didn’t want to keep Brody waiting too long.
