Chapter 252: Hannah’s Birthday Gift

December 1st

Hannah and Walter were surprised to see Angela arrive at their house. Until now, she had always shown up just before the birthday dinner started, much like her older brother, Harvey.

They exchanged glances, wondering why she had come so early—two hours before dinner. They hadn’t yet had time to change their clothes to welcome everyone.

"Angel, did someone tell you we are having dinner at seven?" Walter asked, looking at his daughter seated across from him. He glanced at his watch again to confirm it was only five in the afternoon.

Angela raised an eyebrow at her father’s words, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. "Daddy, do you dislike seeing me come to this house? Should I leave?" She stood from her seat and considered whether to go.

Hannah panicked, looking at Angela, who stood from her seat. Glaring at her husband, she approached Angela and said, "No. Please stop, Angel... please don’t go..."

She quickly held her hand. "Please ignore your daddy’s words. He didn’t mean to offend you; he was just so happy to see you," she said gently, guiding her stepdaughter back to her seat before returning to her own.

Angela smiled at Hannah and ignored her curious father. Looking at her father’s inquisitive gaze, she could guess what he thought.

"Happy birthday, Hannah! I brought you a present this year, and I hope you like it..." Angela said, glancing at her father’s butler, Allen, in the corner and asking him to get Hannah’s present from her car.

Hannah was utterly shocked when she heard Angela had bought her a birthday present. This was the first time Angela had ever given her something. She felt happy but at the same time worried that this girl might have malicious intent toward her.

Since joining the Jones family, Hannah never expected to earn Angela and Harvey’s respect as their stepmother.

Hannah accepted this because she knew she was the person they disliked the most. They rarely saw each other, even at dinner parties like today’s. She knows her husband forced Angela and her brother Harvey to attend this event.

A gift from Angela and Harvey? Hannah had never imagined receiving one from either of them. So, for her, when they had joined her birthday dinner party, it was already a tremendous gift.

"Angel, thank you, dear..." Hannah trembled with happiness. She paused for a moment to take a deep breath before continuing, "But you don’t have to prepare anything for me. You came to this dinner... It was the biggest present I could ask for." She sincerely expressed her thoughts.

Angela struggled to respond to Hannah’s comment. She was puzzled by why she suddenly decided to bring something for Hannah, and she arrived two hours earlier than usual.

’Gosh, Angel! What on earth happened to you?’ Angela wondered. She could only express her frustration silently while avoiding the curious gazes of her father and Hannah.

Walter burst into joyful laughter when he heard that his daughter brought a gift for Hannah. He suddenly felt in a great mood.

"Angel, you are my precious little daughter. I will never forget your kindness to Hannah, my dear..." he said happily. Never once had Angela and Harvey threatened Hannah like this. And he was so grateful for what she was doing now.

He glanced at Hannah sitting next to him. He gently patted her hand, feeling happy for her.

Angela could only take a deep breath, feeling uneasy in this unfamiliar situation. She tried to say something but still found herself unable to speak.

Before long, Angela was safe as Allen returned with an orange box tied with a brown ribbon in his hand.

"Hannah, this is a gift from me. Happy birthday again..." Angela smiled, noticing how shocked Hannah looked now.

"Angel, this gift..." Hannah couldn’t believe Angela had given her such an expensive designer bag.

In disbelief, Hannah stared at the beautiful girl and said, "This is very expensive, Angel. Why spend so much money on me?" She felt terrible and anxious. If Angela’s mother found out, that woman would come to confront her.

"Hannah, this isn’t worth much, considering the help your son gave me..." Angela wanted to say that, but her words got stuck at the tip of her tongue when she heard footsteps approaching the door.

Angela looked back, astonished to see Sawyer walk into the room, laughing with a stunning woman beside him.

’Since when has Sawyer had a girlfriend? And he dared to bring that woman to this house? Seriously, who is that woman?’ Countless questions filled Angela’s mind as she glared sharply at Abigail.

"Hahaha, I’m so glad to see you, Sawyer, and Abigail. Thanks for coming to our house..." Walter’s booming voice distracted Angela.

Angela was even more puzzled, watching her father speak to Abigail as if this was not his first time meeting her.

’That woman’s name is Abigail? Abigail who?’ Angela tried to remember if she had heard that name or met the woman, but her memories evaded her. In the end, she realized she didn’t know her at all.

"Oh, my daughter-in-law Abigail, come here and sit with me!" Hannah stood and walked toward Abigail.

Angela, who had heard everything and seen Hannah and her father greet the woman beside Sawyer, felt her knees turn to jelly. She was shocked to hear Hannah refer to that woman as "daughter-in-law."

She turned her attention back to Sawyer and Abigail when she saw Hannah chatting warmly with Abigail. Her mind was filled with many questions she wanted to ask them.

’My Little bro married that woman? Her name is Abigail?! What an ugly name. When did they get married? Why didn’t they invite us? Why haven’t we heard anything about it?’ Angela wondered. She wanted to approach them, but her knees felt like jelly.

...

Sawyer’s face tensed when he noticed his mother about to take Abigail’s hand and guide her to the seating area. He intervened and shielded Abigail, prompting Walter and Abigail to stifle a laugh.

"Mom, I won’t let you dominate my wife’s time again..." Sawyer held Abigail’s hand tightly.
