Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 22: How Shameless!
Chapter 22: How Shameless!
Countless questions swirled in Abigail’s mind, and it made her rage.
’What is he doing there? Why is he with Grandma? Does he have some nasty plan?’
"Hi, Abigail..." Ryland’s melodic voice on the other end sounded like the angel of death speaking to her.
"Ryland? Why are you there?" Abigail kept her tone casual, though she cursed him repeatedly in her heart, and her mind was angry.
"Abigail, why did you not tell me about Grandma?" Ryland said while moving slightly, and Sophie Lewis’s face appeared behind him.
’Damn it! Ryland, you’re a wicked man—’
Abigail clenched her fists to stop her anger from surfacing while smiling at Grandma.
"Oh dear, Abby, why are you hiding my condition from Ryland?" Sophie Lewis’s voice sounded weak, but her gaze on Ryland radiated happiness.
Looking at how happy her Grandma was staring at Ryland, Abigail was even more worried about telling her the truth. She wanted to say something, but her Grandma continued speaking. She pressed her lips together and listened.
"Ryland was so worried about me and blamed himself because he found out so late about my surgery."
Sophie Lewis smiled at Ryland before turning her gaze to Abigail. Her gentle look slowly turned sharp.
"Abby, you should tell him because we are family. And can you be less angry with him? Don’t forget, he is your future husband."
"Grandma, don’t scold Abigail. It was my fault. Please just blame me," Ryland said apologetically and innocently while sounding sickly pretentious to Abby’s ears.
"Abigail is not wrong, Grandma. She was just angry with me because I was so busy at the office, and I didn’t pay much attention to her. This is my fault." He continues.
’Heck, this man! How dare he speak lies before Grandma? How shameless!’ Abigail cursed him. She couldn’t believe this man now sounded like her sister, Vanessa—manipulative and full of lies.
"Oh, Abby, don’t fight with your fiancé. I will be worried and sad if you both fight..." Sophie Lewis’s voice trembled enough to stir Abigail’s worries about her health.
Knowing what Ryland was doing now, Abigail felt even angrier at him. She no longer had even a bit of something good left for him. He was like a thorn she must avoid.
’Ryland Wood, you are so cruel! Using my Grandma to get whatever vile objective in your mind!’ Abigail could only vent her anger in her mind while suppressing her rage inwardly.
Abigail smiled, ignoring her Grandma’s concern. She said, "Grandma, you look exhausted. You need more rest now. And don’t worry about me."
When Abigail saw her Grandma wanted to say something, she continued speaking.
"Grandma, I need to go to my meeting place now. But I promise you, I will call you later. Bye, Grandma."
"Abigail, wait," Ryland interrupted as he directed the phone to his face. "I have something important to tell you," he said while standing near Sophie Lewis.
Abigail clenched her teeth, hearing his plea. She said nothing, but her apparent anger flashed through her gaze.
Ryland ignored her annoyance; he gently asked, "Do you want me to speak here or outside to let Grandma rest?"
Looking at his threatening gaze, Abigail had no choice but to agree.
"Go outside!"
After the video call ended using her Grandma’s phone number, she unblocked Ryland’s number to allow him to call her. She was angry at him, but this was the only way to lure him out of her Grandma’s room.
She worried that if her Grandma heard she had called off the engagement, her Grandma might faint again.
Abigail knew she couldn’t hide her relationship with Ryland forever. Still, she needed to tell her Grandma directly when she was in her best condition, not now.
As she waited for Ryland to call her, many thoughts about taking revenge on him flashed through her mind. How dare he have the audacity to use her Grandma to get what he wants?
’Ryland Wood! You are the failure of God’s creation. He only gave you a small brain with no heart at all. That’s why you didn’t feel guilty after you hurt me deeply, you fucking bastard!’
Before long, her cell phone vibrated. Abigail stared at Ryland’s name on the phone screen angrily. She took a few deep breaths before picking up the call.
"Ryland Wood, what the hell do you want? Why do you still care about my Grandma after what you did to me?" Abigail asked in an icy tone. She deliberately asked him again, even though she knew what he wanted to discuss.
"I’m fine, Abigail," Ryland sounded friendly on the other end, ignoring her words. "It’s nice to hear your voice again, finally—"
"Stop the crap, Ryland Wood! Speak what you want to say now, or I’ll end the call!" she snapped. She didn’t have time to entertain this scum.
Instead of answering her, Ryland chuckled before saying, "My goodness, you’ve changed a lot, Abigail."
"Yeah, after my scum fiancé betrayed me by screwing my sister without feeling guilty, of course, I’ve had to change my attitude toward him. Or people might think I’m foolish..." Abigail’s sarcastic words were enough to cause Ryland to cough; his loud cough made her happy.
Abigail didn’t wait for him to say anything. She continued, "I only have three minutes for you to tell me what you want! So, you’d better speak now—"
Ryland could sense how angry Abigail was now. He didn’t want her to avoid him again, so he hurriedly explained the million-dollar project.
Abigail could only shake her head faintly, hearing his lengthy explanation. She already knew everything from Milan, and of course, she didn’t care about it. That wasn’t her problem—it was his.
"I know you’re mad at me, Abigail. But, you can’t stop working for the company just like that—"
Hearing his foolish words, she can’t help but chuckle.
"Did you know, Ryland? When you decided to cheat, you should have known that day marked your death sentence. Because if you were faithful to me, I would stop at nothing and give you everything I have to help you build your DAMN company."
"Abigail—"
"You betrayed me, Ryland. You don’t deserve my help. So I will not help you!"
