Chapter 210: Honest To Family

After all his friends had finally left his house, Sawyer and the others moved to the living room. He planned to inform his family about James Philips’s relationship with Abigail.

Everyone looked tense except Nathaniel and James Philips. They both seemed very calm because they already knew Abigail was James’s granddaughter.

"What’s wrong, Sawyer? You should be resting with Abigail upstairs. But why did you ask us to gather here?" Martha asked, confused.

Martha expected that Sawyer would soon disappear with Abigail into their wedding room to enjoy their honeymoon phase, but she was mistaken. Instead, the newlyweds went upstairs to change their clothes into casual and comfortable clothes before returning to the family room and asking everyone to gather.

"Yes, son, what your grandmother said is true..." Hannah chimed in with a meaningful smile as she looked at Abigail. "You two need some time alone, my dear Abigail. We would love to have a grandchild from you and Sawyer. Right, Mother?" she added while glancing at Martha.

Martha suddenly burst into laughter at Hannah’s remark.

"Hahaha, sure, sure, dear Hannah. I probably can’t wait too long for my great-grandchild... I’m so old now."

Walter Jones cleared his throat to get the attention of his wife and mother.

When they both looked at him, he said, "Mother, Hannah, can you stop talking? Let Sawyer speak." He could no longer contain his curiosity about Sawyer’s reasons.

Walter’s gaze fixed on Sawyer, who was sitting across from him. He then glanced at James Philips and his father, who appeared relaxed at the end of the seating area, chatting as if they didn’t care about what Sawyer had to say.

Once again, Walter felt strange and confused about why James was still with them when this sudden family meeting revolved around him.

"Is there something important you want to say, Sawyer?" Hannah asked, looking at her son with curiosity.

"Yes, Mother." Sawyer glanced at his mother before shifting his gaze to his father. He gently held Abigail’s hand before continuing, "Dad, you asked me why Grandpa Philips was the one who walked Abigail down the aisle, right?"

Immediately, all eyes turned to Sawyer, including James and Nathaniel.

Hannah and Martha, equally puzzled, looked tense and curious; they also wanted to know why Sawyer had chosen Serena’s grandfather for this role.

Walter Jones nodded. "Yes—" he responded.

Sawyer smiled at them and said, "Because my wife, Abigail Lewis, is Grandpa Philips’s granddaughter." His words shocked Walter and the others.

Silence enveloped the room as they processed the unexpected news, unable to believe what they had just heard.

After a few more minutes passed without anyone speaking, Sawyer continued to explain, "We just discovered some shocking news a few days ago: Abigail’s grandmother, Sophie Lewis, is Grandpa Philips’s fiancée, who disappeared a few years ago. I believe you all are aware of this, right?"

Hannah and Martha nodded in unison. They found it hard to believe and wanted to speak, but their mouths eluded them.

They look at Abigail and James Philips, trying to see if they resemble each other. When they noticed the similarity in their eye color, they began to accept the news.

Meanwhile, Walter felt like he almost had a heart attack upon hearing this shocking news. He didn’t expect that this was the reason Sawyer allowed James to walk Abigail down the aisle.

"Sawyer, are you really sure about this?" Walter asked, struggling to believe the news.

Before Sawyer could respond, James Philips spoke up. He turned to Walter and said, "Yesterday, we did a DNA test, and the result was exactly as we expected: Abigail is my granddaughter." His voice shook with emotion, and excitement filled his eyes, looking at Abigail, his granddaughter.

James was eager to visit Orange Town, but Abigail had forbidden him from going alone. Abigail wanted to speak with Sophie first, and James understood her concerns, especially since Sophie’s health was not good.

Hannah and Martha were still trying to process this incredible news that Abigail was James Philips’s biological granddaughter. Although they were in shock, both felt immense happiness for Abigail.

"Oh my God, James, Abigail... I’m so happy to hear this wonderful news. Congratulations to both of you..." Martha said, her eyes welling with happy tears. She was genuinely pleased that the family bond with James Philips remained strong, even after Sawyer’s relationship with Serena didn’t go well.

When Martha knew that James Philips had come to the party with them this morning, she assumed it was because James was her husband’s best friend.

That’s why Martha didn’t ask Nathaniel any questions this morning. However, she becomes confused when she sees James walking Abigail down the aisle. Now, all her confusion had been answered.

"Th-Thank you, Grandma," Abigail said, smiling at her.

"Thank you, Martha. Thank you—" James also replied with a smile, unable to hide his happiness.

"Congratulations, Uncle James! And Abigail, congratulations, dear; I’m so glad to hear that. I believe your grandmother will be so happy to meet Uncle James..." Hannah expressed her genuine happiness.

While Hannah and Abigail talked, Martha glanced at her husband. She was surprised to see how calm he was in response to this shocking news.

’Why on earth does Niel look so calm?’ Martha wondered as she narrowed her eyes at him. A moment later, a thought crossed her mind: ’Heaven! Does Niel already know about this? Why didn’t he tell me?’

When she noticed Nathaniel looking at her, Martha couldn’t help but ask, "Niel, do you already know about this!?"

"Yes, dear, I already know," Nathaniel replied with a loving smile, trying to calm his wife. He could see the distress in her eyes.

"Niel, you—" Martha paused for a few seconds to take a deep breath before continuing, "How could you hide this from me? How could you not trust me?"

"I’m sorry, dear. We can’t explain anything to anyone until the DNA test results are out. And the result only came out right before the wedding. This is the only time we can reveal everything..."

Nathaniel explained, glancing at Sawyer and signaling for him to explain more to his mother and grandmother.
